Great video. You can hear the excitement in your voices! So happy that you agreed to be a part of the development for the downpipes, for this conversion. Your sound clips are awesome! Thanks again 👊
Always a pleasure and we're privileged for you to have asked us. It's such a huge part of the character of the car and provides performance improvements too, so an absolute win win! Should you want any clips, give me a shout and I can clip some and ping them over to you.
It's a feeling like nothing I've felt before and I can see the appeal in restoring cars! Trouble is I'd have hundreds as I'd never sell! Thanks for the positive comment!
@South East Mk2 Golfs I'm counting on it after all the look I did on that engine. 🤣🤣. Haha joking. Be interesting to see the difference between out two on track.
Yeah the old bus does sound great! If I were to have boosted it then the work I'd just carried out was the ideal opportunity to do so. Without the extra mods it certainly would break
Great video. I think the VR5 a great sounding motor whether in Vee form or a straight 5, they sound spectacular. The VR6 does sound good when going up through the rev range whilst under load. But at idle, I have yet to hear a better exhaust note than that of a 1936 2litre BMW.
Really glad you like the video! The VR5 has that typically unbalanced sound characteristic to most 5 cylinders, whilst also retaining that unique VR soundtrack. I've not heard the 1936 BMW 2 Litre, I'll have to check that out.
It was a bit dicy on that road where I took those final clips, so I was driving like miss daisy on those parts, but for the most part I made sure I stuck to roads that had been gritted (at the expense of inevitable rust 😅). You'll notice that the points where I did give the throttle a tickle were completely straight sections that were in broad daylight too!
Thank you. The sway bar (or anti roll bar as they're sometimes referred as) is an H&R one. It'll most likely state Mk3 fitment, but it's the same as a Mk2. www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/h-r/h-r-front-rear-anti-roll-bar-kit-fr-22-re-25mm-golf-iii-lim-sedan-convertible-typ-1hxo-1h-1exo-1e-only-4-hole-wheel-without-gti-tdi-110-ps-gti-16v-vr6-inkl-tdi-1991/?cmp_id=1624059255&adg_id=61207848185&kwd=&device=m&gclid=Cj0KCQjw98ujBhCgARIsAD7QeAhCOfgM6fg3clCipf1Y2KgoweYLHBac4EgnRRVERrl8bq2or5IzTFYaAi4eEALw_wcB Hope this helps.
Now I do like a supercharged car because of the fact it keeps the torque curve the same (just more of it) so the characteristics of the engine remain the same, and they do sound good too! However, I fear that 350bhp+ in a car that weighs so little may be a bit overkill and something I'd never be able to utilise unless I was regularly attending track days. The idea is great though and I can see why folk have done it. Thanks for kind comment though. Much appreciated. 😊
@ABF16VFTW I'm actually a bit of a fan, and because it's on the intake, you don't lose the exhaust note that can so often happen with a turbo. So long as it's not too much of an intrusive sound though.
Great video, im wating to build a mk 2 just haven't found a reasonabley priced one yet, how much of a pain is it to keep the 4motion, i presume the fuel tank may need relocating
Thank you. Our Mk2 is still front wheel drive, just using a Quaife LSD to help keep things in check and to be honest it's very effective. If you wished to have 4motion it'll be easier to find a Syncro Golf, as that will have the 4wd tunnel already incorporated. Otherwise you'll have to cut out the floor and make the room for a propshaft etc, which whilst not impossible is obviously a fair amount of work.
@@golfmk2 thanks for the info, I'm trying to gather as much as I can before I commit, I already have the 3.2 owned it for the last 9 years it's a well looked after unit and the sound really is the best 6 banger out there
It is such an amazing sounding engine. And with a predictable torque curve it makes things a bit less scary than a high powered turbo engined car. I'd say if you're not chasing big power, and just planning to drop the R32 into a Mk2 then fwd is perfectly adequate. Check out the track day video and you'll see how well it handles with the pretty basic setup it has. ruclips.net/video/1pU0ZTy02kg/видео.html
Good choice! I used BC Racing BR Coilovers, with H&R front and rear anti roll bars, meaning I kept the standard 'out the box' spring rates the suspension kit comes with. See my track videos and you'll see the car performs well round corners too!

I know the feeling of getting it back on the road chuffed for you both. Sounds spot on 👌 great work

That noise is very addictive 😍
I followed your build and made my conversion based on it, Thanks for the content great job, great car. Cant wait to finish mine
Wow, thank you so much. That's a really great thing to hear. You'll love it (and it'll drive you mad and bleed you dry in equal measures).
Ah I love this car. Love the noise
I can tell you, I've missed it so much and to hear it again makes me all warm and fuzzy inside!
@South East Mk2 Golfs ah man I can't wait to hear it in person again 😊😊
@@markwagar8735 I'll be sure to take you out in it so you realise once again what an engine with twice the capacity of yours sounds like 😅

Awesome video
That means so much. Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
NICE!!gumpert growls very well, love it,boosting him may break something guys,as the old saying goes,"if it ain't broke don't fix it"

Have you had it remapped?
Great vid. Car sounds awesome; just can’t decide if you are a champion or completely crazy for taking it out in those conditions 😂

Put a supercharger on it, u'll keep better sound and drivability
Cool car and love the build

Supercharger noise is marmite... Some love it, some hate it

i wanan do this exact conversion to a mk1 :)
It's a great conversion and one I'd recommend to anyone. Just make sure the engine is well serviced and has had gaskets etc changed before fitting.

More engine sound and less music please
