If you you know Jason at Cog Hill, he can tell you or his daughter Mary Carl can. She knows everything there is about birds of all kinds. They are more than willing to help you with information if you need it. Their eggs are an emerald green.
Glad to hear the Ducks settled in well with your others. I study and photograph wild birds in N. W. CA. I understand birds who commonly stay in flocks together, whether on land or in the air, always prefer being in a flock with their own species. I live on the Pacific Flyway, and I see thousands of different bird species flocking together. The bigger the flock, the more secure they feel from predators. Kevin made the best decision for all involved , as always, when he gave you the ducks to add to your flock!
White House on the Hill has a few as well. They just went trough their first season of them mating but none of the eggs hatched either by the emus or in an incubater.
Emu breeding season is Oct to May. Fertilization attempts are usually in December. Once she as about seven in the nest that they build together, the male will become broody and the female will leave. In your case, he is into breeding season - she will take longer to allow fertilization most likely.
Emus usually pair up in the summer or fall & stay together for about 5 months. Once they make nest by scraping ground & line it with leaves or grass. They can lay from five to fifteen eggs. They lay an egg about every three days. The eggs could be viable for up to five weeks. Breeding in October in USA.
Ducks must have a pond or lake to get into or they’ll completely trash their drinking water. Plus that pooping everywhere is just gross. You really need an enclosure with at least a small pond - then they’ll stay in there. Take a look at Living Traditions Homestead’s videos, from about a month ago. They built an enclosure called “Waddlesville” for their ducks and some of their other poultry. It includes a small “pond” that has a drainage pipe that goes outside of the Waddlesville fence, and that dirty duck water will water & fertilize a couple of Mulberry trees.
I have wild emus on my property. Nature will take its course. You may have an issue when the chicks hatch, the males become very protective. The females are usually no where to be seen.
If you would like to know more about Emu's, may I suggest you maybe get hold of Marie over at Random Okie Farms and ask her. She breeds/raises/sells them. Hope this helps you out some.
You could talk to Marie at Random Okie Farms about the emus. She has them and gathers the eggs and hatches them. You might have to make sure the female emu is getting her share of the food if she's staying off by herself.
The Quack Pack will be missed but it sounds like they're better off not having the geese hog the water. Also, it sounds like they were too messy too. Perhaps, the kids could have a new animal to add to the farm.
My mother said they had some ducks. She said they did the wash and hanged it on a cloths line. The sheets were just the right height off the ground and the ducks had bit the sheets every few inches and she had to rewash the sheets. That was back when we drew water from a well with a bucket. It was a lot of work to wash clothes.
Can you believe when I got an oil change they forgot to close the hood of the car to latch ! When I got on the freeway it popped up and I couldn’t see where I was going! It’s a miracle I didn’t get into an accident!😮😮😮
This is what I know about Emus: The female emus strut around a male making a noise that tells the male emu she is ready to mate. The male emus build the nest. The females lay an egg every second or third day of mating. Usually there are around 8 to 10 eggs that will be laid. Typically they mate Oct-May so during the winter. The mating season an be a month or two before the first egg arrives. He will make the nest and She will lay 7-10 eggs. The male does the incubation which takes 55-60 days. They can be aggressive to humans during this time, just raise your arms or a broom above your head to make yourself larger than them. Keep us posted.
Remember our seasons are opposite to Australia. So they would be be breeding and raising young in late spring, early summer down there, which is late summer early wi ter here, temperature wise.
The female will actually sit on the ground for mating, like alpacas do. Also, the male will sit on the eggs. She won’t have anything to do with them and may even try to kill the hatchlings. I thought that we had a male and 2 females after DNA testing. But now that they are 18 months old, based on sounds (drumming) and chasing each other, flaring at each other, I believe that we have 3 females.
Kevin, wouldn’t the people you got Yoneg and Yoshi from probably know what might be going on between the two of them? It might be worth checking with them since they’ve had emus longer than you and Rachel have. They’re not doing the mating dance or mating sounds so that’s not the issue. Yoneg is not ready to breed. She will let Yoshi know when she is. Good luck. I’m sorry about the ducks but I’m glad they’ve gone to a good home. Hi to Rachel! ❤❤❤❤
He just feeling his oats it is that time of the year for them. Having said that they aren't old enough yet and she is like nope not happening you bad boy. Now about your duck egg preference i do get that you could start giving your chickens some eggs to eat it will harden their shells and make their yolks a deeper orange color and more flavor. And like you said when you get everything ready you will be able to have ducks again. Have a wonderful evening now and may your days be blessed
Kevin, great video. Sorry you had to send the ducks to another farm, but maybe it was better for them in the long run. Good luck with your bow hunt. David B.,Utah. 🐐🐕🐈🇺🇲🇺🇲❤❤❤.
I used to have 2 ducks and my neighbours got annoyed with the noise and I had to give them away. I have no clue with the emus, she may just be playing hard to get. Xx
🇦🇺 Emus begin laying eggs as early as 16-18 months of age, but laying normally begins at two to three years. Emus lay large green eggs between November and March. Emus can be productive for more than 20 years and can lay 20-50 eggs in a season
Emus breed in Dec and January they remain together for about 5 months. They will lay 2-5 eggs. Once they are all done with laying the eggs is when they start to sit on them. Emu eggs are a very dark green. The female will lay 1 egg about every 3 days. The male won’t sit on eggs until there are enough approximately a dozen. (I googled the info).
Hamburger soup?? 🤔 Sounds yummy. Never had it. Another good video. Sorry to hear the ducks are gone but very understandable. Emu's are probably mating. Marie @Random okie definitely can answer your question.❤ Thank you Kevin for sharing your time.
Make sure you find her eggs if she lays any because I saw a post from a farmers market in Florida where they were selling green emu eggs for $35 EACH!!!
Becky at Acre Homestead has the same freeze drier as you, although she recently upgraded it from 4 trays to 5. She makes dog treats from beef livers in hers. I believe she got the recipe from RUclips. She even freeze dried candies like skittles and others in one video. I wish I had the space for one, lol.
As others have said, check with Marie at Random Okie farm or Jason at Coghill. The females make a thrumming sound, males do not - theirs is more of a squawk.
Another enjoyable video! As far as your decision’s about farm animals you have to make sound and hard decisions! What’s best for them and your family!🙏❤️enjoyed your video as always 😀God bless you and your family!
Sad that the ducks are gone but I understand. Glad they are in good hands. Not too sure about the emu’s. Our neighbor had a male and a female emu and the male started chasing the female. After a while the male started getting aggressive with the female and pecking at her neck and she ended up with large sores on her neck. She would be all bloody. I know our neighbor had to get rid of them to other people. I would just keep a eye on them and check her time to time to make sure that doesn’t happen. Our neighbor only had a very small pasture so the female couldn’t get away from the male. Yohne looks like she has plenty of running room to stay away from Yoshe. Sorry about the spelling of the names. Much love to you, your family and all the animals. God Bless y’all 🙏❤️✝️🥰🤗💖🇺🇸💪🙏
In almost every species the male can smell the scent of the females when they are coming ito heat or getting close to coming into heat. The males are always ready and will often follow the females so they are right there because in a lot of species the time when they will actually be ready to breed can be a very short time, maybe 1 day.
Love the video. Sorry about the dirty ducks having to leave! Your videos always give us more info about bees, eggs, animals, freeze drying…. Lots of things . Always entertaining. Always fun . Thanks for sharing your farm with us. Prayers and blessings from the OKC Grandmother.
As an Aggie, I have to say, GO OU!!! Beat those horns!! Kevin - do you ever have to deal with the menengial worm from deer with your goats? What do you do for prevention or treatment?
Texas high school coaches are always happy to prepare and present so many quality players to OU! 😀 I saw Lorie's video earlier and agree you found them a good home.

Hey guys 👋 I enjoy watching your videos. I don't always commit on your videos but am. Watching yall but I always like your videos yall are a great family. 😀😀❤❤
Hello Kevin & Rachel! I understand about the ducks. I’m sure it’s a hard choice - but you have to do what’s best for them and for you . I’ve seen lots of suggestions for you to talk to Marie. It may just be getting close to breeding time. Blessings ❤
Hey Kevin, your farm, your animals your business. I'm sure every decision you have to make, you ask your family first. Ducks really don't need to be free ranged. You could have fenced in an area with a pond and they would have been happy. I hope Rachel is doing well. Miss her on the videos. All birds are noisy and messy. That's what birds are. Enjoyed the video again!! Thanks for sharing. Emu's, sounds like you should get ahold of the lady who has Emu's. May the Lord continue to Bless you and your family and friends and critters 🙏🙏 Peace 🕊️🕊️ Love from Maryland ❤❤
There are 2 emus across the street from us and the male chases the female almost constantly. The male pulls her feathers on her back and pecks her head until bloody. They are several years old and the female refuses the male always. They run around and twirl necks which looks really weird. They live with goats and alpacas.
I also had one goose, that did not like me and was chasing me out our gate. One time that goose bit my knee. Which was painful. I love your geese. they are so pretty.
Cog hill farm would be your best info they do well with nugget and there newest. Give it time you will learn there moves and what they are doing. You do good with animal. There are things you can look up. Books don't tell all though. Best to get a hold of cog hill. Love your show
When you are ready for ducks again you might consider Muscovy ducks. They don't quack but hiss, they're quite a large duck so will cope with the geese better, they roost off the ground in trees if allowed and they're happy without a pond although they'll use one if provided. Not known for egg production especially but dual purpose so more of a meat producer than your other duck breeds.
When female emu are ready to mate they make a drumming sound which you can find on RUclips and they also strut while walking now I do know male mature alot faster than females so males mature around 1 yr old age to where females start maturing around 18 months but if you look up the female sound that's how you know when females are ready to mate so she just ain't ready yet to where I think he is
Thats cool if they are thinking about pairing up. Now that it is getting colder with less bugs could it be they are just more hungry? Might try adding a Emu food or more snacks specific for them. She may need a little more specific diet to lay eggs and for them both to breed. ❤
Definitely talk to Marie at Random Okie Farm ❤❤❤❤. She breeds Emus
Ask for info from Marie at RANDOM OKIE FARMS,she raises emus.
Those emus came from Marie originally.

Gosh! Yes! It’s so quiet now. When you were walking away from the pen, one or both of the emus started running.

Your coach Brent Venables came from Clemson that’s why he’s so good. We are in SC
Whiite House on the Hill has tried mating their emus. It might be helpful to watch their emu videos.
