I have friends in Russia and like many Russians they have friends and relatives in Ukraine and they are horrified by what is happening there despite the glossy reports on the Putin controlled media. . They regard Putin and his cohorts as the problem, not Russia itself. Any attempts at opposition to the "special military operation" are ruthlessly suppressed and risk long jail sentences.

So the UK no longer believes in diplomacy or peace.
Rather they no longer belive in the 'frozen conflicts' and those who constantly brake any so called 'peace agreement' (Minsk1 and 2 are proof of that). Peace is more than just stop shooting and has to be base on justice. If there is no justce there will never be peace. And If there is no justice restored it's called capitulation which will only embolden the bully go further. And UK def sec understands it.

If the U.S. pulled out of NATO, and lost U.S. funding, the conflict would be over very quickly. Europe could not assume cost of the conflict. And what politicians say is more intended to influence the listener than portray actual conditions and necessary actions. Talk is cheap, especially when you are not accountale for what you say.

The UK is not the biggest military spender in Europe or NATO. Poland spends 4% of GDP on defence which exceeds the UK’s measly 2.5%

The problem is the most of it is wasted on over paying for weapons systems, ships, planes etc and on the wrong projects. Example China's rip off of the F35 costs £20 million, UK version £165 million. It's not sustainable, at this rate the next 6th generation fighter plane will cost hundreds of millions for each unit.

The problem with unbalanced/biased reporting is that people actually start believing in propaganda rhetoric. NATO expansion is a genuine concern for Russia and Russia is managing its geo-strategic interests the best way it can. There's no way Russia can accept a nuclear armed enemy on its door step. It's not gonna happen. At some point youve got to consider the Russians point view if the end goal is peace and preservation of precious human lives. Putin isn't the problem, NATO expansion is the problem.
