I just bought a mesh wheel and sprayed it with some silicone spray to soften the wires and make the gaps smaller. I also modified it with skateboard bearings. It works for my 4 chinchillas.
You mention plastic and how they should not have it im glad i came across your video i have 2 plastic hide aways in my chins cages now but I am removing them and trashing them. Thank you. As Far as the wheel goes I ordered 2 of the giant ones metal ones on Amazon I gave over $100 for each
Merlin is adorable! love how happy and active he is. thanks for all the great advice. I haven't had a chinchilla since I was a kid. on a waiting list with a licensed breeder now.
I’ve been binging all your videos because I’m going to the pet store tomorrow to get stuff for my chinchilla and making sure I’m not getting anything that isn’t good for them I’m getting her in a week and I’m soo happy 😂😂
I'm currently saving up for a chinchilla and I swear the wheel is the most expensive thing other than the enclosure, especially when you want the right one - so I can understand why people tend to buy the cheap plastic wheels that are too small - I think it would be better if the proper wheels didn't cost as much, especially when they are also so hard to find, when chinchillas are pretty common as pets - very annoying. But thanks for showing me models to buy. Might have enough money for a good wheel in 100 years XD (don't come at me guys I won't get a chin until I have a full, safe and proper set up ready)
I found a wheel it’s metal and is 16 inches high, but apparently it’s not good for their backs but I found it on a website called Tic Tac. Could you maybe tell me your opinion on them? 💕love Merlin x
I got a chin spin that’s brand new! It wasn’t expensive at all. It was 40 dollars! My mom won it on an online auction it came in the mail and it is in perfect condition! This is an example of a good way to save money when you are buying supplies for your chin. I’m getting my chin on the 20th and I’m super excited. I’m getting a female and I’m going to name her Ash. Should I get her a buddy now or when she is older? She is coming from a “pet store” but it isn’t like a pet smart. The lady who owns it and she breeds the chinchillas herself so she is technically a breeder, the chins are in great condition too. I’m putting her in a 4 1/2 tall cage that is 4 feet across and 3 feet wide. The lady who has her said that when she was weaned that she was very aggressive towards her siblings but is very affectionate towards people. I’m not completely sure what color she is going to be but she is kinda a light grayish but she is not a standered grey chin. I don’t have a lot of other animals anymore because my most of my rabbits that weren’t good show rabbit are now pets to something young adults that wanted rabbits. I have ducks but only 5. They don’t require that much work on a daily basis though. I do have a roboroski dwarf hamster though. His name is Theodore and he is a stinker! He is in a 560 square inch cage and that a little big! He doesn’t like to be handled but does enjoy getting a treat every once in a while. I’m super excited for my chin. I might be young but I do know that once you get an animal you have to commit to it. My parents taught me that when I was very young by getting me my own little pony when I was five. He is now old and is retired but he is an important part of my life. I also had goats that I toke care of by myself and that taught me a lot too. I have done my research and I’m prepared for a chinchilla. I stared wanting one at the beginning of summer and now I’m finally going to get one. I only like to watch your videos because you are the only channel so far that explains why something is good or bad. Thank you for all your help! ❤️❤️❤️
Megan’s Life with Pets That’s so cool! I’ve been looking into getting one for Merlin. Also, I’m sure you’ll be a great owner. It’s probably a good idea to get your chinchilla a buddy as they are social animals 😊💕
Thank you for the helpful video. I wanted to see how quiet it was? Mine is still a baby. Is 12 inches okay under 6 months old? It is only until the metal one arrives. He gets angry and barks without his wheel. Is a 15 or 16 inch wheel too big for a baby one?
Christo Azaeris The critter nation cage comes with metal ramps with fleece covers that have a Velcro deal that keeps them together. You can even make it yourself😊
I made covers myself! I bought a huge fleece blanket for a buck from a yard sale and cut it to the size of my shelves and sewed up both sides and the bottom, keeping the top open to slip over like a sleeping bag kind of.
I'm really glad you made this video, because I was looking for a wheel for my Chinchilla because I can't let him out as long as I want (Well minimum is 40 minutes for him) so I want another way for him to get exercise.
i just got my chin a medal wheel but it's mech so what i did was i got this like no slip track stickers? and i lined them covering all the holes so it'll be easier for him to not slip, his nails won't get caught, and it can actually file his nails down too
I need a safe, cheap chinchilla wheel for an adult rescue. My budget for everything minus the cage is 90 dollars. I need a wheel that is 15" and only 20-30 dollars... I adopt her in 1-2 months... And still have a ton of stuff to buy...
This might be late but you could DIY a wheel if you think it's absolutely necessary to have one. I saw someone make a saucer (similar to a wheel but flat) out of a plate however wheels aren't 100% necessary initially especially if you're on a budget
Animal Nation No, because the wheel is way too small for Chinchillas. Any wheels you find at pet stores won’t do. The diameter needs to be at least 15 inches across and you just won’t find that at most pet stores. Any smaller damages their spinal cord and bones badly over time😊
Etsy.com has some less expensive metal wheels. Look at the reviews and check during holidays for discounts. Some bundles are also a way to save. Basic wheel maybe $25 and the bundle comes with extra feee items. I cannot mention the name of the sellers I know. That would be spam or advertising. :). Safe to go with metal and no mesh.
If you cant afford a 100 dollar wheel chances are you go cheap on other things too. Seriously people should not own these animals if they are on a budget its irresponsible
Arianna Glen Yes, it's actually known for being quite silent. The only thing you might hear is their paws pattering on it as they run but honestly it's so quiet, you barely hear it☺️
Do you know of any good wheels that are quite cheap my wheel is plastic so I want to change it but he didn't use it often anyway so I don't want to be spending lots of money if he wont use it.
For my birthday I got a lot of money and I'm thinking of buying a chin spin but idk if I will since my 2 chinchillas have had a homemade one for nearly two years now and they had been fine.
I am getting a 2 1/2 month old chinchilla female tomorrow. Some people said that she should only stay on one level of her critter nation, but others say she’d be fine. Can I have your opinion?
Abbie Heck I’ve had a 4 month old chinchilla, never younger, and ii only put him in a one level cage at first because when they are very young like that they could hurt themselves with jumping all around so I’d recommend a one level cage areas at first:)
hey! just wondering what some good online chinchilla stores would be? i've heard of people ordering from them and i've been wanting to order from one as i'm getting a chinchilla pretty soon :)
So many people commenting about "A" chinchilla they have, or want 🤦🏼 What is so hard about "They are social animals" to understand?! Get a hamster if you want a solitary animal. "But I spend a lot of time with my chinchilla!" No. A human can never measure up to the company of their own kind!! Would YOU be happy to spend all YOUR life with, for example, a chimp? Never see any other people? No?
kiara ann You mean flying saucers? Yes, they are. Just as long as you get a large one that is 16 inches in diameter. Normal wheels are a lot more natural for them and they learn to use them easily, while the flying saucer sometimes may cause some spine pain. They are safe for a certain amount of time, but may cause spinal problems years down the road. So I mean it’s up to you if you want to have one for a while and then switch to a wheel or just stick with a wheel from the beginning 😊
My chinchilla died today because of bad wheel he jumped on top of the wheel and falled where it holds wheel to the cage And he hanged himself in slow death i wasnt home at the time looked impossible but it hapens Not buying wheels ever again
The Chinchilla Notebook Yes It runs very quietly and you can only hear the chinchillas feet. 😊 Here is a link were you can hear how quit the wheel really is ruclips.net/video/UjRpb2Kfgy4/видео.html , and if you get it, its really easy to install plus you get one year replacement warranty 🙂.
brookepotter123 Drying him with a hairdryer on cold was a very good idea because you don't want to let them be wet and you also don't want to give them a heatstroke. Anyway, your chin sounds like he's a lot to handle and Merlin used to have behavior issues like that as well. He used to attack me all the time and bite the bars and ruin his cage. I guess I don't know for sure how we got over his aggressive/strange attitude but I stopped putting light things in his cage that he could tip over and I also stopped trying to put my hands into his cage and I basically stopped giving him direct attention for about a week. Merlin, being the social Chinchilla he is, very soon over got it and stopped acting out. As for your chin, I recommend maybe regulating the amount of access he has to water. For example, stick the water bottle in his cage for only ten minutes every hour or so. This way he might not be tempted to make a mess. Consider getting your chin a good wheel and maybe check that they are eating healthy and aren't ingesting or inhaling any toxins of any kind. Sorry I can't be more helpful! I hope your chin gets over this soon:)
Mr Cosplayer Those mesh ones are usually all too small and also, covering them with fabric doesn’t work out very well. It doesn’t give their paws enough traction to run properly and it’s also difficult for them to run😊

X. Von Darkson I wouldn’t say it’s too big. It can’t ever be too big, but 12 inches should be okay if he’s still a baby😊
So for the cages with plastic ramps we just cover with fleece? How do you keep it on?
Christo Azaeris The critter nation cage comes with metal ramps with fleece covers that have a Velcro deal that keeps them together. You can even make it yourself😊
The Chinchilla Notebook Oh thanks! I'm planning to get a chinchilla in the future and have started researching

That bad chinchilla wheel said “giant 12” lol I thought 15 was the minimum
Thats like for a syrian hamster lmao

Yoongified I don’t know of any that are super cheap, I know some flying saucers made of metal or wood might be cheaper maybe on Etsy?💕
@@TheChinchillaNotebook ok ty
are there any other recommended toys? mine doesn’t really use the wheel.
Quick question, when I wash my chins fleece, do I have to use a certain detergent or will anything do?
kellybananabelly I recommend unscented detergent so as not to irritate the Chinchilla:)
Could you show us in depth the wheel you have please? Or is there a video you already made. I would love to make one!

brookepotter123 I'm not sure about that. It's a good idea, but I don't know! I'll think on it:)
Is there any cheap wheels because I don’t want to pay for the chin spin because it’s really expensive
the best cheapest whell that you will find is 66 dollers it is a treadmill whell.
Are wooden wheels good or bad. Know I'm 3 years late but......
Could you use a metal baking pan and turn it into a wheel??
Let's get ING with Sheza&Shayaan no
I love Merlin he is sooo cute

Hey I have a question and am a first time chin owner is there anyway you can help me
brookepotter123 Drying him with a hairdryer on cold was a very good idea because you don't want to let them be wet and you also don't want to give them a heatstroke. Anyway, your chin sounds like he's a lot to handle and Merlin used to have behavior issues like that as well. He used to attack me all the time and bite the bars and ruin his cage. Flying Saucers are okay as long as they are big enough and not plastic. They have to be 16 inches in diameter😉
i have a chin spin and it was 100 dollars
Anyone figure out what is the last wheel you show on the video?
Ps live your helpful videos! Thanks for blogging your knowledge!
Rob Presson Not really sure but it should come up if you search chinchilla wheels or flying saucers😊

Can you feed chins store treats and btw my chin is only 4 mounths
