I'm rebuilding my 10 year old rig for my girlfriend's son. 4670k and a 1070. So many memories are locked up in this hardware, feels great to know it's still capable.
My current PC is an i5 4670k with a 1070(upgraded that later). I've had a steady overclock of 4.5ghz on it for a long time. To this day, it still handles the few games that I play on PC with it. That said though, I plan on upgrading this year to a 14700k and I haven't decided on the GPU I plan on going with yet. It's definitely time.
@@Techomode I did, thanks for asking! Micro Center actually had a fantastic deal on the 7800x3d, so I went with that and a 7700xt. Going on 3 weeks with this build now and it’s been a joy to have a modern PC again lol.
Just bought new parts, upgrading from a i7 4770K with a 1070 and i have to say for being 10 year old the system still holds up quite well at 1080p with everything turned to Low :P
Hmm..I have an I5-650 1ST Gen 16 gb ddr 3 ram and a 1060 6gb gc and I can run anything currently on the market on high+ in 1080p. The only thing I cant run are AVX2 required games, found that out with granblue recently. In the process of putting together an I5 4670k pc to take care of that. I paid 150$ total and 80$ of that was the 1060 to run anything currently going. The 4670k is going to cost me 35$ including the motherboard. 1333 DDR3 is 15$ for 16gb. Have an 1070 to put in it I got for 65$. 130$ pc that games everything. I can post vids of gameplay on high with pc specs if you doubt.
I got you beat! I'm gaming on an Intel Core i5-3570K! 'Course I did have to upgrade the RAM and GPU, but everything else is as I built it in 2013! I play Minecraft with Distant Horizons and shaders. I also run DaVinci Resolve. Still pretty solid after all these years!
Still rocking with the i5-4670k in 2024. And it works great for the vast majority of games on steam. Only one game i haven't been able to play and that's Enshrouded. My rig has NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 1030 GPU. 64bit OS, 64bit processor
I'm still running the i5-4670K at 4 GHz OC with a 970, and its been absolutely fantastic at 1080p with the games I usually play. However, I have been eyeballing some more modern titles (like BG3, revamped Dead Space, CP 2077, etc) and I think I'll be scraping the bottom of the FPS barrel if I try them now. I've been iterating on upgrade builds for the last month or so - the choices a decade later are almost a bit overwhelming tbh.
im still rocking a i5 4670k had it from when it came out till now and the reason i found this video is because started getting some lags in cod wz2 1st time laging with this epic cpu but i agree and its time to upgrade
I have a secondary system I built in 2013 my wife and kids use with an overclocked to 4.1 ghz 4670k with a giant phanteks dual tower 140mm cooler a gigabyte g1 killer motherboard, evga GTX 770 sc, 16gb Kingston hyper x 1600, Corsair rmx 650 psu. The GPU is getting replaced today with a hellhound 6650xt and then see if it needs a full rebuild for what they use it for. Haven't had a single issue with it other than the psu had to be replaced the original evga supernova crapped out after 6 years. And now the system will brick in the middle of my kid playing destiny 2 so I think the GPU is crying thus the 6650xt.
It's getting to the point where cpu and gpu doesn't matter, everything is controlled. If you buy the latest gpu, then okay, good for you, you bought a 3 to 5 year pass in order to graphically play your favourite game. But oh wut? That game has a part 2? Oh noes, you better buy a " new gpu" that'll allow you to play that "new" game with higher fps. I've seen F all progression in graphics apart from a higher resolution output. I'm not fooled with this "upgrade" nonsense. So many gpu's, so many cpu's, yet the graphics look the same. We're being conned big time.
With that CPU&GPU you could play all games in 4k medium to high some things off ofcourse and cpu utilization would be below 90%, beautiful and smooth 35-55 fps...
my living room system is a core2quad 8300 with 8gb memory ddr2 and a rx560 and it is used as a arcade machine for ultra street fighter 4 maximum settings 1080p at 200fps!!!! tekken 7 most high settings at solid 60fps. So, even though a core2quad is ancient, it can still be used if paired with good ram and proper gpu for games not too heavy
I have a Dell pc that has a 4790 cpu that I use as my back up 3rd computer if I ever need it and it is still very usable for day to day tasks and some light gaming with the gtx 1060 6gb that's in it.
It's strange that I can play these games with my old processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965/ 12,0GB Dual-Kanaal DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24) / ASUSTeK Computer INC. M5A78L-M/USB3 (AM3R2) / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (MSI) / 238GB Samsung SSD 860 PRO ) I think it depends on which components you use old processors can still do a good job and I like old processors i love it. why do so many people throw so much money away ? use my old computer still that i built in late 2013 with an i5-4670k that got paired with a 780ti before it artifacted and got replaced with an RX470 sapphire. got bored and installed some newer games and it handled it like a champ. Doom eternal on high settings had no problems. Prey 2017 on medium settings held up pretty good. Kingdom come Deliverance on low i noticed a lot of issues with the CPU paired with the graphics card. i built the pc back in time when CPU usage in games wasn't really needed as much and everything was still GPU focused. now it just plays old school runescape and handles my business operations
The one flaw of my i5 4670 that I've run into so far- though mine is without a decent graphics card- is that it cannot play 4k video. A better graphics card might allow it but I'm not sure. Anyone else reading this played 4k video on it?
I had an evga gtx1070 paired with mine for a long time and had no issue with 4k video or 4k60 gaming. Eventually went to a 1440px144hz monitor instead.
Not surprising, tbh. Moore's law stopped being a 'law' around that time and while you get incrementally better results in video codec packing, cinebench etc., real world usage in gaming is more or less the same as it is with modern processors if you are willing to stick with 1080p or 1440p and a modern GPU. Now if you tried the same with a 2008 processor in 2018, the results would have been "everything is unplayable".
Exactly this. Better efficiency and of course everything now has high core counts, but some of these older CPUs when cranked up have brutal single core performance that just works in those games.
I have i5-4670 for 3 years now. Used RX 570 4GB to play almost every game I wanted to play at medium/high settings. I stopped playing all games but continued to play Counter-Strike. Once CS2 was replaced, my fps dropped from 140 in csgo to 80-90 in cs2. It was still playable but not very enjoyable. I am thinking of buying a different used gpu. 1660 Super or RX 590 8GB maybe. Will then buy i5-10th gen. I just want to play Counter-Strike at enjoyable fps. 150+ atleast at set-by-default gpu video settings.

Best cpu for the socket is the i7 4790. I've been looking into it as I also have an i5 4670. It's not that big of a difference probably though unfortunately, as this video hints at, not that I've tried to change CPU.
My question is, would it be a good idea to by a RTX 3060 for a system with this CPU if I plan on upgrading the rest later anyway? I'm currently running a GTX 960 but was wondering if buying a better GPU would be a good idea first (along with a PSU) since I'd still have a step up in performance when playing games while I get the newer CPU, motherboard and RAM. From what I'm thinking it would be a better option to do that since I'd still have an increase in performance, and then later on I can get the rest I need. PC building just gets really tricky on a tight budget so I was just wondering. Thank you for any help :)
Yeah I don’t see the issue if you’re planning to upgrade. I used a 3060ti so a 3060 would be less bottleneck. But yeah that’s not a bad plan. I would do something like that.
