Torklift Central manufactures and distributes the only hidden trailer hitch for the 2010 Jetta Sportwagen. This hitch is no drill and bolts onto the factory frame. The hitch rests just below the bumper skin.

it's a good thing this video exists. It helps with the not so easy to follow instructions. Now I see that I have to run to the hardware store for some missing hitch install kit parts.

I found this and thought it would be exactly what I need. BUT it’s not really a “stealth” hitch if you have to cut a big notch in the bumper cover. :(

Thank you for your interest in our EcoHitch for the VW Jetta. Our trailer hitch does require some minor trimming of the bumper facia (which you don’t see once completed because it’s on the underside of the car). This is the lowest profile hitch that’s available, and is as close to the bumper as possible so you don’t lose ground clearance or overall look of the VW.
The only other hitch options that we’re aware of make you lose major ground clearance and overall look of the vehicle because the crossbar hangs below the bumper. But yes - they don’t require trimming. We’ve included a couple links below to show you want we’re taking about:

So.. I have a 2013 TDI Sportwagen with a manual transmission, that I would like to pull a Gheenoe with (like a canoe with a motor). In your opinion, do you think that would be a problem?
Hey Christopher - thanks for the question! The hitch weight capacity is 300 pounds tongue weight and 2,000 pounds towing weight, so the hitch is strong enough to tow a small trailer. We recommend checking your vehicle first and ensuring that you stay within their factory ratings.
So can you tow with the 2012 JSW TDI? I am looking to move across country with a small uhual behind my TDI

How hard is it to make the bumper notch look this good?
Hello Akiva - thank you for your comment and interest in our VW Jetta SportWagen EcoHitch! The hitch comes with a length of Trim-Lok to make the bumper notch look nice and clean once it's been made.
did you cut out a notch in yours? was it hard? round, square, or semicircle?
@@chrisradla - thank you for the question! There is minor trimming of the bumper facia and we also include some Trim-Lok to make it look nice once cut. We recommend making the cuts in a square pattern which is provided in the installation instructions, but if you want to round the corners that's fine - just as long as it meets the minimum requirements needed for trimming. so do you have to cut out a center section on the lower edge of the bumper cover to make your hitch fit?
+Matt Comchoc thanks for the question. There is a little trimming of the bumper facia required in order to fit the receiver. Our kit for the 2010-2014 VW Jetta Sportwagen EcoHitch also come with Trim-Lok to finish it off. Let us know if you have any further questions!
Hey there. I’m curious where that cargo area extension cover, on the bumper cover, came from? I’ve been looking for something like that for a long time with no real luck. Appreciate any information you have. Good video!
Hey Joel! Are you talking about the part where the bike rack meets the hitch? That part is actually part of the bike rack itself and the brand is Yakima.
@@torklift_central : No-I’m talking about the cover on the bumper closest to the internal cargo section, that protects the bumper cover from scraping cargo that happens from removing cargo. I’m definitely not talking about the area below where the hitch is. I cannot locate a cover like that, which also covers the edge of the bumper cover-above the hitch-like what comes stock on Subaru Outbacks, for example
@@joelmartin2826 Got it! Sorry about that. I checked in with the guys that did the install and they said the bumper cover is factory, so it came with the vehicle. Hope this helps!
@@torklift_central : Never seen a factory bumper cargo scratch cover like that on my factory one...nor anybody else’s mark 5 and mark 6 VW Jetta Sportwagens. I have seen them on Subarus, however.. Ok, thanks
Just use clear bra protective film. Works great on mine.
no Styrofoam cushion reinstalled?
