damn i love smears. thank you for showing these different smear techniques! i've been researching anime for specific aesthetics that i prefer over the cartoony style of western animation. definitely gonna keep this in mind when animating smears from now on, and apply these different approaches

This was very helpful. Normally my smears are done like the last style, but that can be pretty hard for bridging large gaps or accentuating movements. I’m excited to experiment with these new techniques.

Thank you so much for this! I know this sounds weird, but coming up with smears is beyond my comprehension for some reason. I understand what they are and how they work, I just struggle with coming up with them since they kind of ho against what I know to be correct like how a still frame would look. I don't know why this is. Maybe a neurodivergent thing? The reason doesn't matter, this video has given me hope that I'll one day be able to create smears and smearframes of my own one day! Thank you!!

Are smears done by the key animator or are they done by the in-betweeners?
For the Google version of the layout is it supposed to have a transparent background?
As you manage to export the animation in "full canvas" size?, it only lets me do it to the layout size

this guy uses Clip Studio Paint theres alot more software's like Krita, Adobe Animator, Photoshop, Procreate Dreams, ect

more frames of equal quality is better, it's just not really worth the time and effort most of the time
ai generated frames are severely worse in quality and pushing an animator to do more full quality frames is likely to reduce their overall quality from overwork and burnout
finally smears an inbetweens are more frames so I don't get your point on that
