Who doesn't love to save money while adding more power to their car? Or boosting an E46 for cheap?
In this video, we find out if it's possible to turboan E46 for $3000. Can it be done? You'll have to watch and find out.
Want to see how much I ACTUALLY spent turbocharging my E46? See this video:

Top quality filming as always. Right to the point
Thank you!
Great video. Can't wait to see how this will progress!
Thanks!
ive got an e36 and even still all ur e46 vids help me ahah
Glad I could help!
Videos from you are always a treat! Saving up for my turbo build, kinda have a similar or maybe the same car. It’s a bmw 325ci 2002 with the crappy getrag five spd
Thanks! That getrag definitely isn't the best.
@@nuisance_carl is the oil drain going into your drain plug hole? I was thinking about doing that
@@EurobaggedATL No, I have a separate bung for oil return. Draining to your oil drain plug can be done as a temporary solution with a top mount setup or with a scavenge pump. Absolutely don't do that with a bottom mount and gravity drain.
@@nuisance_carl I see you made a video on yourself using a scavenge pump and it didn't really work. Are you having any oil drain problems now?
I would read up on your car cause the M54B30 and B25 your engine are identical in dimension the only thing that separates them are internals. U can put a b30 cam and rods in a b25 close it up and you basically have a M54B30. Of course I kinda simplified it but that's basically how you'd do it. Check bimmerforums
Awesome video as always !
Thanks!
Well done.
I love your video 🥺❤
Thank you!
Congrats Carl, pretty nice build for the price!
Injectors? How do you tune it? How much boost? Pump gas?
love the videos, extremely helpful and well thought out.
Which of these bare bone items would a top mount setup not need in your opinion?
If you do top mount, you won't need anything scavenge pump related. For that spreadsheet, its lines 101 to 113 which will save you just shy of $500.
@@nuisance_carl I wanted to do bottom mount, but I really don't want to deal with scavenging... Thanks for all the info Carl
@@sultanofswingdrift3021 No problem. FYI, there's definitely bottom mount manifolds out there that will allow you to setup an oil drain without a scavenge pump.
I read on an e46 bottom mount build write up, that your drain plug needs to be sloping into the pan. I’m not sure how true that is, but it may be why you needed the pump
Yup, on my next setup, I want to try to do this and ditch the pump. We'll see how it goes.
I wanna boost my 01 330ci so bad dawg!!🔥🔥
Do it!
I know e46s seem better for boosting because of the forged internals that come with it but everyone says they suck because their aluminum head is that really and issue compared to the m50? People push n54s and they are aluminum I don’t get it
is this possible on an XI model? I appreciate your input sir!
Sure, it's been done before
Bro how you drive your car in california i just got state ref a few weeks ago😂 got pulled over for no front licence plate then he seen my gauges and asked if i had any modifications done to the motor😭
All depends on the area. For example, I would NEVER take this car to Newport Beach, or Laguna Hills. That said, I just drive modestly, and if I do get pulled over, I’m completely honest and open.
is there a supercharger route for the m54b30 instead of turbo?
Absolutely, but most kits only offer moderate power (around 300whp or so). I really only went turbo over supercharger for the turbo noises. Otherwise a supercharger would have been perfect for my needs.
@@nuisance_carl Thanks, and thanks for the quick response
Or you can save on exhaust by just going straight through the hood :D
Very true!
So would it be reliable for me to copy exactly everything that you have listed? If so do you have any idea about how much power it makes
It’s probably around 300whp. There’s so many variables for making a reliable setup. Quality of the welder and fabrication. Quality of the tune, etc. the most reliable setup would be a kit, tuned by a reputable tuner.
@@nuisance_carl Okay thank yiu siunds good
What’s the purpose of a e36 manifold gasket?
It doesn't have the heat shield portion like the E46
Is it worth it to turbo a b25 or should I just get a b30 to swap
I'd probably draw the line at 350whp for a B25. Some people have done more, but the higher HP you go, the more risk you're taking.
@@nuisance_carl thanks for the input, 350whp is more than enough to drift my e39. 180hp is just a little too slow for the e39, it falls on its face in 2nd with 80psi in the rear.
wanna do this badly but need to convert to ms43 sadly
Don't let that hold you back. The conversion seems pretty simple.
Ms45 can be turboed
Welded diff?
Correct
can you do this on automatic ?
Yes, there are a few that have boosted auto's
@@nuisance_carl please would list any video?
Or you can save even more if you just buy a kit on eBay😂
For the power you're running, why didn't you just save and buy an m3, $9000 to make about the same power doesn't make sense.
You do know a stock m54b30 can handle 400hp on 98 pump, and more on e85, why are you running such low power
Hindsight is always 20/20. Original plan with the car was 2jz swap which would be a waste with an m3. On top of that I’ve always wanted a boosted car.
I do plan to have a map for more power, but only for the tracks that demand 4th gear. I don’t need 400 hp for the typical driving this car sees, so no point taking on additional wear and tear.
Where are you getting an m3 for 9k?
you trying to buy a clapped out m3? lol plus you can always turn up the boost, mans has a b30 them hoes take 16 psi ez
I did say save up more, plus then you have resale value, spending 9k on car that in the end will sell for $2000-3000 just to run 300hp just doesn't seem logical, specially when you can daily it at 400 on pump.
@@patchedupdemon7104 he is happy so it makes it worth it. That’s all that matters.
