    So so sorry to see this guys . I was the guy in the Mercedes A class that stopped and said hi near the lake in Lake District . Gutted for you, I sold my disco 3 and purchased a freelander 2 hst. I had my pump changed on the disco 3 as they are known to go .

    Sorry for your loss, Mate. 15yrs later, my bond with mine gets stronger as time goes by. You entered the death zone with the D4 at 150k and right on queue it let go. Rotten luck arghhhh!
    Hope you go back to LR someday.

    Very sad, I feel your pain. Awful to watch a dream build pulled apart piece by piece. Either way, on to the next one. Onwards and upwards. You’re editing and production progresses in leaps and bounds regardless of life’s ups and downs. That’s more central to the path you’re on than the Landy I guess.

    Very sad 😔, I had the strengthened oil pump fitted to mine when I had the cambelts done at 100k, I'd advise everyone to check and get the updated one fitted ASAP. Shame you can't rebuild or re engine it. Can't wait for the van build... maybe a V8 forward control 🤔 😀

    • @2planks

      i stupidly assumed the oil pump would’ve been done with the cambelt service for some reason. it was done before i bought it. it was such a well looked after example, i just guessed everything was in order. put it down to inexperience! i’ll definitely be more vigilant in future anyway.

    I am a new subscriber, so hear about your disco😢 we have a disc 3 ourselves, have replaced the oil hosing and done a few things to hopefully mitigate the normal.pitfalla, it is a manual as well so hopefully no issues with crank shaft!. It can happen to anyone. We had a WV Touraeg before the disco, only had 93k miles and the engine died, rebuilt twice but kept blowing more cylinders, so look forward to seeing your next journey.

    If you watch LR TIME Christian goes into great detail of the three types of oil pumps fit to disco 3's . you will possibly find that yours is the early type which is weak around the pulley web .
    Known fault to many , but no recall from JLR .Looks a smart motor . You can get a replacement motor from a Jag fit for a few grand . But you need to source the Jag donor car .Unfortunately everybody in your situation are all looking too.Might be worth a few hours on the net , I bought some Jag spares from Euro jag in Darlington . might be worth a call

    • @2planks

      thanks mate! i’ve seen the LR TIME vids and it definitely was the early oil pump installed in mine. i had stupidly assumed it had been done with the cam belts, but wasn’t. car is long gone now however. i broke and sold a fair bit of it and then the rest went to scrap about 4 months ago.

  • @docarreglos6945
    @docarreglos6945 Год назад

    You have in Britain some good LR/RR engine rebuilder. In an other channel I saw that it could cost 8000£ onwards but than you have your LR but with new engine you could ride at least 200K km without paranoing and I think it’s cheaper or the same as what you want to buy with high mileage and used with nearly same or mor risks to occur. I definetly would encourage you to do it. If would have to ship over my Disco 4 to rebuild once failured it would cost me 2000 £ extra which you don’t need being there. My idea was to make a trip to Scotland and north England until my engine wrecks and would save the transport shipping over 😂😂

    Seen a few of your videos and really enjoyed them, I am really gutted for you, this is not nice, Honestly, there is a channel on here an Austrian guy who owns a Disco 3 & 4 and talks about the design flaw of the TD & SDV6 engines & how the crank is a design flaw. regarding your failure, they state that the oil pump in the earlier disco 3 models was not fit for purpose, and that it needed to be changed out for a newer updated design as it failed to get the oil pressure up and maintain it as a result of this, causing extra stress on the crank and bearings, ultimately leading to catastrophic engine failure :(
    I drive a 2014 Disco 4 and have my fair share of issues in only 1 year of ownership, the biggest being a gearbox failure and needing a replacement, costly, but I still love it and now that I have 2 year warranty with this new gearbox, I will keep the disco for that length of time.
    I wish you all the best with your next vehicle!

    Gutted for you mate. I’ve got a camper (high roof transit) and I’d find it hard to go to a roof tent after having this. You might be the other way round like but I suppose everything is a compromise at some point. I’m only in Hull u sound Leeds way? Still to this day one of the best looking D3’s what u made was stunning.

    • @2planks
      @2planks  Год назад +1

      yeah, if i’m honest i love the roof tent, but it’s not the most practical. love the idea of just pulling up somewhere and settling in straight away. with the tent you have to find somewhere with enough room to open it out and then spend 20 mins setting it up. be nice to just slip in to a lay-by or small space with a van. one of the clam-shell tents might fix those probs, but to get one big enough for us all, it’d take up the whole roof rack. just fancy something different. never know, might try landy again in the future. yeah i’ve been in leeds for the last 15 years, wakefield 20 years before that! west yorkshire born and bred, strong int arm and thick int head 😂

    Sad to hear the old girl suffered the all-too-common oil pump casting failure. To be honest, though, if the casting wasn’t replaced by the improved, stronger version when you had the belts done at the 7-year service, then you need to find someone better to take care of your future Disco if there is one! It’s a known issue, and should’ve been dealt with by any Landy specialist worth their salt. Anyway, good luck with whatever you end up with next.

    • @2planks
      @2planks  Год назад
