See you around and thanks for watching!
1. be the guy on top
2. win on top stay on top
3. win on bottom have a guard 'you shall not pass'
4.never forget rule #1, easily forgotten due to the seductive and rewarding nature of guard
1. Is wrong. There's plenty of ways to submit ppl on ur back. 1. should be dominate in both positions. I've rolled with blackbelts that rather stay on their back cuz they're not expending energy standing up.
I'm sure it'll be that simple...
Objectively speaking, I'm with you. But I'm always going to be more afraid of a person who's got a wicked Guard. If they can be dangerous without having to rely on positional advantage, then you gotta be a beast!
@@Aligums I think ur taking what Chris said out of context
Ffs, ppl. He's literally quoting Chris.
I Literally Spit out my Drink when he started the Eddie Bravo Stoner rubber Guard Bit
"growing old... Like I am now... Fuck!" incredible. And fascinating. He's got a wonderful spirit.
At 18:30 he does a great job of explaining the differences between the martial art & sport. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris at a Rickson seminar and he's a great ambassador for Jiu-Jitsu and a approachable, easy going guy.
Wow for this video being from 2015-16 I thought it was made today in 2022. It is so well put together and touching on relevant points in Ju Jitsu today. Amazing. Thanks Chris.
Love this guy Chris Hauter, one of the dirty dozen.
"Man made rules change the game".,
Golden Rules "#1 Be the guy on top. #2 Win on top, stay on top, #3 Win on bottom, have a guard you shall not pass, #4 Never forget rule # 1 easily forgotten due to the seductive and rewarding nature of guard"., "Jiu Jitsu is the intelligent ART, is the art to control and submit my opponent using the least amount of athletic atributes and the maximum amount of leverage, technique with cunningness and gile".
This was so awesome. I've just started BJJ a couple of months ago, moving from 'tradiational' japanese ju-jitsu and kickboxing. this is brilliant
we should never forget about the roots and why bjj was created!
So basically judo
@@emperorjimmu9941 Uhhh, no.
Would love to roll with this guy but would equally pay good money to sit and listen to his teaching and experience. Amazing 👏
It’s always fun to hear Chris talk about the progression of Jiu-Jitsu and how far along it’s come since the beginning in the U.S.! Can wait to see where our young sport will be in another 25years!
I could listen to Chris talk all day
This should all go into a long article.....Really good.
I agree.
That man is frickin Awesome! Can you imagine having him as an instructor! 😏. Been watching him since he was a brown from over here in Scotland. Class act man, class act. Being taught by Chris for a few month's would be like winning the lottery. Mega Experience and Charisma. Respect ✊....
Wow. This guy’s a really great motivational speaker.
He's so on point and gives such great advice on life in general. Environment definitely trumps Will. And it explains why good people slip in their lives and get into substance abuse or a criminal lifestyle when this is what surrounds them. What a great lecture on so many levels, from the evolving philosophy and history of BJJ to giving such great life advice.
15:50 reminds me of the great Renzo’s voice. Awesome vid!
It is a perfect Renzo impression lolol
Great, great fucking speech dude. So much genius, thanks for sharing everyone involved. Hope I get to meet & fail at choking you guys soon.
This is phenomenal - right up my street and lots of history I didn't know. Thanks for posting!
Next Level Teacher no non sense i love it keep talking Chris
watch his foot work. he is so invested he moves like he's in combat. I love it !!!
Master Haueter dropping knowledge bombs and some history oss!!
Saw this posted on OMJJ's page on FB but it was kind of glitchy so I had to come here. Better quality here as well. Awesome professor by the looks of it.
+todei79 Thanks for watching.. Yea I had to resize the video to fit on FB. Chris is a super cool dude.
+Chokes n' Travel Could you make the "Add closed Caption" available. I loved this video and think it would be great to have it in portuguese. I would like to translate it so it can be posted for portuguese speaking audience. Is that cool?
Amazing history lesson
15:30 "And then came the Russians" XP I died laughing the 1st time i heard this. 16:24 rubber guard parody lmao
he's an awesome teacher!
bwahahaha "it's like rubber dude" I love Chris so damn much!!!
I can't wait to meet this guy in September!
Nice!
since I saw bjj in socal Chris's voice is addictive his history is amazing tool to inspire.
bjj globetrotters!!!
I train 10th planet, when he said that shit about the stoners I was cracking up.
So fucking true. You have 2 options, open guard and use hips and leg strength or use rubber guard and save energy with tight complex movements. TOTALLY better for lazy stoners who'd rather just chill
Chill Dog 🐶 that'll be then! 😄
This guy is awesome
Good foot work
Eddie Reyes 😂
I know Chris Hauter from my teacher back in the late 90’s besides Gracie he also talked a lot about machado and mentioned his name quite a bit
I'd love to go to one of his classes
The type of ground grappling you see in BJJ today was also seen prior to WwiI in the Kosen tournaments in Japan. The Tatami mats they used were made made from rice straw.
There was a much longer version of this where he goes into training in the early days but it's been taken down.
I could listen to Chris talk about the modern evolution of bjj all day. I started bjj in the 90's and I do remember the time when we were all doing closed guard and some guys from our academy traveled to brazil and brought back this revolutionary spider guard 9at the time) and we were all like wow. You mean open the legs while in guard? No way!!! No days you have white belts that feel like purple belts of back in the day.
cmon guys, lets be fair, it must cost a lot of money and time to google current events and then yell about the same 4 issues obsessively.
16 minutes definitely talking about Eddie Bravo hahaha
Love this dude, always makes me wanna train. Anybody know what the 18 original techniques where that he mentions?
I'd like to know too. But if nobody has answered in three years...
William Harding google it
it's been too long, the only guys who would know now days, would be the guys who trained that way all those years ago themselves
This was awesome! Super cool guy!
Amazing, enlightening video. Love hearing guys like Chris talk.
Chokes n Travel - Anymore of this Vid mate? This is Gold 😊
Gotta love Chris!!
Met this guy at a Seminar in California. Awesome down the earth guy, former L.A PD ( Culver city ). He knows how to fight and knows what works.
Love this dude. Hope to meet him one day.
Wisdom, knowledge & understanding!
Legendary.
“When you’re fifty and do t want to get punched in the fuckin’ head anymore…” - Professor Chris Haueter
They did do grappling pre ww though actually it was popular then it died out. Grappling has always been around they also had horse hair mats lol
Brilliant
Preach brother!
What a message! ossss
GOLD .....
Am I the only one who came to hear him say “he fuckin foot lock me so hard, so hard he broke my bones”? 😂😂😂
Great video. Thanks for sharing :-)
I fully support adding slaps in all rolls. Especially against leg leeches.
I'm so taking these trips in a couple of years. Awesome speech bro, OSS!
Fired up!
Roght at the end when they started slap-rolling!
Thanks for much by you
Awesome....
Missed his seminar at my school. That won’t happen again.
Great video.
He mentions the original 18 techniques... any ideas of what they were / are?
I like listening about jujitsu more than I like watching jujitsu match’s
Amen!
Everything he said was spot on. We have gotten so far away from Jiu-jitsu's roots with sport it makes me sick. Add the strikes back in and keep it honest.
He actually said it was good and it was bad.
If you want strikes back then you can just do mma no one is stopping.
And to think of it he actually said he wouldn't want strikes because you could go longer to your 50
@@ifthatthenthis3797 Why should I have to do MMA when I can just add the strike defense back in and train Jiu-jitsu the way it was meant to be trained. I do by the way and I teach it that way.
I know plenty of guys in their 60s and 70 still training BJJ this way.
@@dragonballjiujitsu for training okay because people can just hit you lightly but for competition well it would be better suited for MMA.
I wouldn't want to train anywhere where I'm getting my head blasted if I make a mistake.
But then again I don't train BJJ for self-defense I do it for fun.
And self defense I got my guns.
@@ifthatthenthis3797 They are meant to be trained that way. Also you are far more likely to need empty had self defense than a gun. I carry a gun and two knives everywhere and have trained with them extensively both professionally and as a civilian but they are not a replacement for being able to fight.
In fact, if you carry you should def be able to actually fight.
@@dragonballjiujitsu well I probably wouldn't train it if I got hit to be honest.
And I think it's wouldn't be as popular as it is. If it became too hard core.
And mma is for hardcore shit,
I suck at fighting now so I got to definitely rely on my tools and verbal judo. If that doesn't work I'm fucked.
Come to BJJ Globetrotters Camp this summer in New Hampshire :)
Rock and Roll
"It's like rubber dude!" I died LUL
great vid. osss
Great quality! What did you use for camera and sound?
THE JIU JITSU!!! 😂💪
8:03 Thy Golden rules🙌
Who the fuck thumb downed this? This is fucking gold!
Carlos and André Helio Gracie because the curse words
Lmfao when he brings up rubber guard
He sounds like he really loves to hear himself talk
I wouldn't put it that way. All the Master level guys have that outspoken attitude. It seems like you're not very experienced in JiuJitsu circles if you're just now making that observation. lol.
Luv it
There is no mention of upkicks from the bottom of guard. Hmmmm... I thought that was an old-school move. Kinda like what Renzo did to Oleg.
The dude at 18:00 just sitting there assuming the position forever.
Also, one of the "keep it honest" things I've always done is never hold the triangle or guard when someone picks me up. Let it go and keep going, don't get slammed doing stupid stuff.
That's an awesome Brasilian accent
I like most of what you say but you have a couple of incorrect believes about Judo particualt, the distintion between Judo and Japanese Jujitsu (the Samurai art).
Holy taped fingers.
Fuck this guys adhd is as bad as mine 😂
There is a English influence in bjj due to meada training in catch wrestling while on England
18 moves... please tell us the list!
Were is his gym?
oh my god, he sounds JUST like Renzo
Why is he saying Bthe Game.. Broll and pulling Bthe guard.?
Nenad IC XC Shuput I think it's a speech impediment
Yes, I noticed this verbal tic or stutter from a different speech.
My guess is that he has overcome this very slight speech impediment over the years.
My respect for the man grows, speaking in public whilst mastering a verbal tic is no easy feat.
Este viejo es un Lince!
What's a "lince"?
Maeda was fighting for money obviously.
its like hes talking and making a buraku performance as well lol
Holly finger tape ha :)
Eh. Wrestling was first introduced in the 1896 Olympics. Greco actually. Mostly throws. No leg attacks. This was well before WW2 so his idea about no break falls in wrestling due to the mat is wrong. I would say we don’t break fall in wrestling because most of the throws involve a trapped arm. Also we are landing body on body as we throw. So what’s the point? In judo a lot of the throws the thrower remains standing. We have a lot of idols in Bjj. Make sure you don’t just believe someone because of the color of their belt.
He's not wrong, and he knows the difference between Greco and Freestyle. Most traditional styles of folk wrestling, from Sumo to Glima to Lucha Canaria, and many more, were based on standing throws. Ground wrestling, while not unknown, was considered unpractical and left largely undeveloped until about the late 19th century. Of course, the ancient Olympic games featured a kind of freestyle wrestling with ground wrestling and what we would consider submission holds, but all in the service of a fall.
cdcaleo thx for the reply. I don’t think you read my post. I said he was wrong on why there is no break falls in wrestling. He credited it to using a soft mat devised post WW2. The science and practicality of break falling does not apply to wrestling because in wrestling the throw ends with your opponent driving their weight on top of you. In judo you can break fall because the goal was to finish the throw while you remained standing. Hence, dispersing the energy of your own body as it hits the mat. Not your body and also the attackers.
cdcaleo ruclips.net/video/ITQVFWdvtpU/видео.html
This match happened two days ago. Watch the throw at 3:20. break fall won’t disperse this impact.
I disagree with his history of Judo prior to WWII. You can find old pre-WWII Judo books where over half the techniques covered were newaza.
cheyennew811 you are correct. He is not a hoplologist. He is just talking from his vantage point.
l e g e n d
all i want to do is learn “warrior” BJJ. I give absolute zero fucks about the sport. I don’t give a shit about what move is worth how many points and my coach’s know that. Which is why they’ve stopped asking me.
Anybody else think the guy doing the demo with Chris not seem like an actual black belt?
Those are some super white feet
aww man that's how it ends :(
Yeah i was enjoying it. Wanted to see more of the combat jj/mma techniques
is it just me or did the guy in the demo not seem like a black belt?
Isnt taping each finger kinda silly and pointless?
Haueter's an institution. The ABCs
