@domeslacker Yes I did have a rear ARB locker and it was locked. However the vehicle was high centred and therefore the wheels were not touching the ground. A diff lock is no use in that case. The only way out is to dig!!
Great Stuff! Is the LC equipped with locking differential? I saw the ARB sticker on the front guard. IF it was, were you locking them and trying to pull out of that little situation you found yourself in?
Before you go judging these people, the story of their local god is similar to the Greek Oracle of Delphi. For those of you who know the mythology I am referring to, it's easy to see that the local god of these people plays the same role as the high priestess of the temple of Apollo, and the guy with the white shirt following the local god plays the same role as the priests of the temple of Apollo. And of course, the sick man is the same as the seeker from around the Hellenic world who has come to inquire from the Pythia. In ancient Greece, the Pythia gave very cryptic messages, so the other priests would translate them to the seeker. The same thing is happening here, the local god gives cryptic messages, but they must be interpreted by the guy with the white shirt. Now the question is why would you look down on these African people's mythology, whereas it has the same basic structure as your celebrated Oracle of Delphi. So I want every African watching this video to understand that African mythology is not any inferior than European mythologies. Don't think of the Europeans as people who never believed in primitive, and now laughable fables. They did, and still do till this day. Educate yourselves people of Africa, knowledge brings light and takes away fear of the unknown. The difference between you and them is the color of your skin and your unwillingness to pick up weapons and go oppress other people in their homeland. If you picked up your guns and you Bibles, and went oppressing other nations, then they will be busy looking for their basic needs and would have little or no time to think about math, science, philosophy, etc, and world history would have been different today.
@ONELOVEONEWORLD4ALL That is very interesting, please tell me where there other border posts with better roads for vehicle traffic between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Hello! This trip was really a great adventure! I hope to make a trip to Africa in the future. Meanwhile, I'll keep enjoying your adventures! Thank you for sharing them with us! Greetings from Brazil! P. S.: What would be the next video of the trip? Did you go to which country after Camaroon?
well what did you buy that winch for and other equipment, you wanted an adventure well you got it, rather lift the wheel off the ground with your high lift jack or air bag and place an object under the wheel
im from cameroon and I love my country. did you like the juju dancing? Im a princess in my village and my grandfather would call jujus to dance infront of his grandchildren. really nice.
2'' lift and 35'' tires solve all of your problems. If you also went to an inch of extra offset on your wheels, you would offset most of the centre of gravity increase.
@landarchitect1 Not really. It depends on how well you are prepared, how skilled you are as a traveller, and how respectful you are different cultures. It is a wonderful continent to visit.
Great video! I've been to Cameroon and can tell you that road condition is not unique to just the Nigeria-Cameroon link. The ring road in the Northwest Region gets quite rough at times too, although you probably know that! Witnessing the Jujus is a really cool experience. I was privileged to see a funeral ceremony for a very prominent village elder in Aghem (Wum) and the Juju's were quite fascinating.
Except for the clothing and those two rifles, the "road" and the village could have been from 1000 years ago. meanwhile, we are designing craft to take us to Mars and to permanent facilities on the Moon.
We had an hydraulic ARB rear diff lock in the cruiser. However this feature is no use if the vehicle is high centred as was the case here, since the tyres were not touching the ground.
@MrRza7 This is the only road in the South. There is another road linking Nigeria and Cameroon in the North (via Maidiguri) of the country, but it is even more remote and difficult to get to. When we considered using that road we were advised not to since it is apparently dangerous country to travel through.
is the the Gembu/Banyo border?, long story i was trying to cross there 2020 but covid messed everything up, hopefully i will go back at the end of this years rainy season with my moto
They probably pulled off a show for the whities and when they are gone they all go " * pfff *..ho ha ha the crocodile hat man trick always works with tourists"
that can't be true. the only road linking Nigeria to Cameroon? there are much better roads linking Ghana to all her neighbors. hundreds of people travel to and from Nigeria, through Togo and Benin everyday. Burkina Faso lacks a sea port so some of their imports and exports are made though Ghana. there are so many business activities going on among west African nations ( Nigeria and Cameroon inclusive)i therefore find difficult to believe that there's no better road linking Nigeria to Cameroon
You lucky you never got killed. I live in South Africa and have come to a conclusion that murder, rape and corruption is Africa's way. I wish I had the money or passport to leave. There is nothing to see in Africa unless you want to see your own death. Its not safe to go anywhere.
@haytoo you are absolutely right we were lucky. Check out the Cameroon Impassible video on the "Tale of two travellers" website to see just how difficult the road is in wet weather. Tom
David Cazes I got a lift on mine a 3 inch and so far I haven't gotten stuck nor in snow last year was the first winter i used in snow no problem there too.

These is Toyota are the worst vehicle for this kind of expedition. Usless on soft sand as it is to high raving and digs itself in. Hard on your back and butt, to wide with to little clearance and its thirsty! A Pajero or land-rover is still the best by far :) been there, done that, many many times
toyota worst vehicle for this kind of expediton? is that a joke? pajero better than land cruiser? to little clearence? the land cruiser stock comes with 225 ground clearence, and pajero is 220 so do the math... THE LAND CRUISER IS BY FAR THE BEST CAR FOR OFF ROAD EXPEDITON and it is the best stock car you can use in soft sand after the jimny lol! the old man got stuck because he does not know how to drive in mud. he entered the heavy portion with no momentum ( speed) not acceleration. probably got scared... but all the respect for that couple even is he is not the best off road driver. pajero is a good car , land rover is a legend but the land cruiser.... you just can t compare it with no other car. only the jimny is better lol
What in the world told you that you were'nt going to high-center? Because you got a Toyota? Obviously zero experience offroading. I'll tell you what you're going to stumble into...someone's boiling pot.
I concidently watched this video 10 years after it was made today!
I've driven through Africa when I was in the military years ago. Amazing continent.
Looks like a fun road to drive, Red Bull should do a race on it
That looks like the JuJu dance at Fons Palace ? Near to Bamenda I believe? I saw this place in 1993. and have a video of similar dance.

@ONELOVEONEWORLD4ALL Where do they say it's the ONLY road because i've seemed to have mised that in the video !
where is the road?
whats in the LC, straight 6? Lovely sound

It is the road from Ekok to Mamfe in the Cameroon.
This demonstrates why a "4 w.d" without a limited slip diff is actually a 2wd.
French Cameroun needs her own Mamadi Doumbuya just like Guinea
Why all that fighting with a shovel when you have a perfectly good winch...? Or don't you have a set of skids?
COME FROM BOTSWANA ?
It's not paved of course, but with an 80 series it'd like "highway"...
what is that car?

thats not the only road there many more roads whihc are better than that

Though i think the landcruiser is too heavy & wide body is not ideal for this type of tracks
Lucky it was not raining. the road would have probably been worse
Yes that is a Botswana plate you see

whoever is in the front truck is a terrible driver...
its not up to road thats driver is bad
So is the car it's kinda low. My Chevrolet Silverado can cross that easy.
Unless you have a 6'' lift and 33 at the least, no way.
David Cazes Mine can its high enough some cars that are 4x4 are low that's why they get stuck
I was saying because the new trucks are super low but the older one were fine.
