  • 00:00 Ghana, a small country in West Africa, is the world's second largest cocoa producer. It's the end of the season. By motorbike or on foot, Jeff and his companions transport the precious commodity through the bush and try to reach the city to sell the fruit of their harvest.
6:16 They harvest Coca but have never seen or eaten chocolate
9:13 Ever wondered how chocolate was made ?
30:11 White Gold is an important part of the economy
38:35 Times are hard, even at the border control
In the center of the country, Lake Volta is the largest artificial lake in the world. Several times a week, locals cross it to get to the market. But everything gets complicated when it comes to loading the cattle on the boats, and having passengers and animals live together? Ghana is also renowned for its funeral rites, and its very special kind of coffins. These must represent the profession exercised by the deceased during his life. Along the roads, manufacturers compete in ingenuity: the coffins take the form of multicolored fish, sewing machines, Bibles, or even bush taxis? Funerals are not easy. They sometimes take on the appearance of carnivals. The dead live there again?

The burial rituals and practices were quite shocking to me. I come from Kenya, in East Africa, and our funerals are quite morbid and full of crys and wailing, unlike in Ghana where it is more of a celebration. What a diverse beautiful world!

Dude it's 3rd world country run by dictators it will unfortunately never get better. None of those countries will be better. Population would have to spill blood to fix anything and history tells us none in such countries has will to do so. That's the biggest difference between Europe and Africa, in Europe as history teaches us most inadequate rulers end up killed by people its mentality that doesn't exist in Africa as even before colonisation dictators or "God kings" ruled with iron fist since down of times so they never developed that rebellious spirit as it was brutally squished for countless generations. Only thing that could fix it would be 3rd party intervention but we all know how that ends up.

Ghanas cocoa is of the highest quality, so that foreigners would smuggle cocoa into the country to sell it at a higher price. However, the farmers still get a relatively low price from the gorvernment, which pockets the usually higher price on the international market. A policy introduced by nkruma, which originally was meant to protect the producers but still stifles the forthcoming of this beautiful nation today.

Ghana is evidently a country of much potential, but hamstrung by inadequate and under-maintained infrastructure starting with decent roads and navigable waterways. Hoping that ECOWAS initiatives can give both higher priority, to improve traffic safety and increase productivity so that Ghanaians can do more things for themselves.

As a Ghanaian living in Accra . This documentary does a good job at exposing some deep parts of the country but dont be swayed. 70% of Ghana doesn't have such bad roads. Just check out some videos on the " year of rerturn " which is an initiative that brought many Ghanaians in diaspora back home. Who better to tell the Ghanaian tale like Ghanaians themselves. Dont get me wrong, these documentaries aren't wrong but dont just assume the entire country lives like this.

Same government that will give out lucrative contracts to foreign companies and not hire their own people for work.

How much do they pay the farmers and how much do they sell it for to other countries? I’d be very curious to see those numbers.
