I am an American retiree living in Hungary for 3 years already. I love it here. I would never leave to return to the USA. I own a house here and feel safe in my village in rural Hungary. I hate A/C and I don't need it at all here in this 120 year old adobe farm house. Even in the warmest part of the summer my house is cool inside if you close the windows in the morning and then open them after dark. I love the food and the people.
You two are the most beautiful people I have aver known. I am Hungarian, I have lived in London and in Australia since 1956 and you nearly made me cry. I have enjoyed this video immensely, thank you for your warm and loving hearts, your kind words, I am so glad you were happy in my country, I am now 89 years old and I will never see Hungary again. God bless you
Hungary is my all time favourite country. My wife is from Hungary so I’ve been there many, many times over the years. The culture there is unique and very charming.
If you are not use too AC you will get sick. I`m from Poland we are not using AC too and I get really sick two times in summer once when I was in dentist who get AC on full, second when I walk a lot in the hot and then go to the shoping mole. So this is not a story for naughty children but reality for people who grow up without such expensive and unnessesery device. So don`t be jugmental ;). And Hungary is amaizing country. Love culture and people.
Hello! I'm Kriszti from Hungary. It was nice to hear how much do you love this country. A lot of hungarian people aren't proud of their nationality, but if those people would watch this video, I bet they would change their mind. You remembered the hungarian people that they are living in a nice, beautiful country, with a lot of traditional thing, and with a hard history that Hungary survived. You made me smile with this video, I'm happy to hear positive opinion about Hungary. I wish you everything good!
Thank you so much, at the age of 7, in 1956, my parents were separated. My brave mother picked up myself and two brothers and fled. Not easy, the tanks were on our doorstep as we were a few minutes walk the central market and freedom bridge, we walked past bodies laid out, stopped several times and with a string bag of a little food. We were paying for transport, only to turn the corner and the truck was blown up, we finally got to the Austrian border, crossing wasn’t fun, I remember we were shot at, they missed. My first trip back was when I was almost 50 years old. Since then, my husband and I have been to visit from Australia, longing for another time, thank you for your experience, it’s heartwarming ❤️
My parents were from Hungary and had to leave in 56. I've been their a few times and it is such a great place.Budapest is vibrant yet peaceful and pleasant The people are very humble The food is very good but I grew up eating authentic Hungarian food.. I've never felt like Hungary was unsafe. My family and I were going to go back but because of this pandemic we postponed our trip.. Cant wait to go back .. Magyarország
I'm in hungary right now..april of 2020...visiting close relatives...I agree very beautiful country, friendly and very polite people...my father was from Hungary
I never heared nobody describe my country with such love and respect. Thank you so much for this. It was an honor to listen to you. How sweet and loving you two are. I miss my country, I live in the US twenty years ago and my friends who's truly good, loving people like you are helping me stay and get over with my home-sickness... Thank You! Wish You Both the Best!
Whenever my grandparents turned on the AC I came down with the worst cold ever. 2 weeks of suffering, in the middle of the summer. I hated the artificial cold created by that germ-spreading machine.
I visited Hungary 2017. Such a beautiful country. I was in Budapest and Pec. The transit system was fabulous! Didn’t take long to learn. I did also love walking their beautiful streets and tasting their magnificent cuisine. Buda is different from Pest. You must visit both! During my stay, I visited Croatia, neighboring Hungary; another beautiful gem in Eastern Europe. Also Austria (oh my heart beats for Austria!) Had a trip scheduled this past March but Covid 19 cancelled that. Can’t wait to visit again. Thank you for your beautiful video!
It is a heart warming the way you speak of Hungary. You haven't mentioned Margaret Island When I was there I was stunned by the beautiful laser light show within the fountain at the main entrance to the island. It was Aug. 20th and like you said the light show was amazing. I was born in Hungary but live in Oz. the last 63 years
I’m half Hungarian and half Czech. My family came to America in 1920s. My grandma and mom still make veal paprikash exactly how you describe it. Thank you for sharing
I have to tell you how much I appreciate you making this amazing video. I can truly see that you both enjoyed your time in Hungary and I am so-so glad that you actually took your time and had an open mind to learn as much as you can about us and our culture. I`m Hungarian and I live in the UK, worked for the US and had plenty of conversations with all sorts of nationalities about my background in Hungary. This video will be definitely one of those which I will share with whoever asks about my origins. Koszonom! Also special thank you for pronouncing Budapest in the proper way, I`m so glad that you learned about paprika :) and it made me smile what you have said about the AC because it is actually true, hahaha.
Thank you. There should be more people like you! I'm glad, that you emphasised our sacred tradition on November 1st, this way remembering is one of the most beautiful ways for us, and I have never heard any foreigners experimenting this and even emphasising it. Thank you, for choosing our country, and keep being this inspirational, kind and happy as you are now. Greetings from a Hungarian girl.
I really enjoyed your video. So glad you had time to see so much, --not just the touristy places but the countryside as well. You very obviously enjoyed your stay , were immersed in the culture and learned about the history of the country . It is heartwarming to hear your well-informed, empathetic commentary and appreciation for all that you saw and learned. As an ex-pat, living in Canada, ---you had me in tears. Thank you for this!
My wife is Hungarian, we have a place there to where we go to holliday / retire or flee when the invasion here gets too much. I love Hungary my addiction is picled cseresznye paprika :) I buy loads of them when I go there. In fact I drive there now instead of flying so I can take lots of Paprika and wine back home :) I love how Hungary still has it’s own culture and isn’t tainted by islam invasion
The rose petal ice cream place is called Gelarto Rosa Budapest, located by the St. Steven Basilica. The name is a play on the words gelato and art. It's exclusive, delicious and vegan, I can definitely recommend it.
I have lived in Budapest from early 1977 to late 1981. I have toured most of the country and I can tell you that it is a piece of paradise on earth! I would recommend everyone to visit this beautiful country and its lovely people at least once in their lifetimes.
I'm American & visited Hungary twice in 2022. I expect to go again in 2023. Most of my time was spent in Debrecen, which is lovely. I will definitely add Gelarto Rosa to my TO DO list for 2023. Your video was really informative & helpful. Thanks!
AC DOES cause colds and all kinds of inflammation. I'm one of the people who can't take it, I fall ill from it in 2-3 days in the office if it blows on me all day. Some other people are immune to it.
It was so heart warming to hear this nice couple. About the fridge size: you people have cold store at home in the US, not fridge. In Europe we store the grocery in the supermarket not at home. :)
It is sooo good to hear positive opinion about my country. I am hungarian and live in Budapest. I was an exchange student in Iowa. I guraduated there from high school and I also had a very good experience in your country as you have in mine. Enjoy. 😊😊😊
Perhaps the Hungarian aversion to air conditioning is genetic. I'm of Hungarian ancestry with all my grandparents being Hungarians and I also loathe air conditioning and find that exposure to sir conditioning brings on symptoms of stress, especially a severe cough. Which is one good reason why I would never want to relocate from the northeastern US to points south unless absolutely forced to do so by circumstances.
Your description was so beautiful! I got emotional when you were talking about the view from the Castle, and all the light lighting up! I'm happy that you had such a great time here!
One tiny correction, we do have refrigerators, like regular sized ones that you use in the states, and we also use them like regularly, same with freezers
My grandmothers old adobe house is naturally centrally air conditioned because of the thick adobe walls. As most of the houses are in the areas outside if Budapest proper. I almost froze in July. I borrowed grandmothers winter night gown. Anyway they could not afford air conditioning. You need to forget about air conditioning when in Hungary. Yes, my aunt has a large freezer and also a large stand up refrigerator. Of course she does not live in a small apartment in Budapest.
For me as an Hungarian person it’s really exiting that what other nations think about us. The fact that they said good things ‘bout us it makes me happy. You seem lovely people. On another note, fridges are not small, it is a personal preference. You can get fridges and freezers in all kinds of sizes but Hungarians prefer fresh food over frozen and also tend to over-consume less than Americans.
It was heart warming to hear these opinons.Especially the old guy knew some important information about our history.I tought its gonna be boring but however it was very good. You are a very good person, I hope if you will come back to Hungary, you will enjoy it.
I can say on behalf of every hungarian,Im very happy these lovely word what they sad about us.I love that kind of emphaty how they loves hungarian foods, culture, safety livings and how they can't understand why hungarian peoples think the air conditioning make them sick(by the way my mom also hate them). And if anybody wants to visit hungary i recommend some other cities like Debrecen,Szeged,Eger because they are also beautiful. Finally they love living here, and I wish every moments what they will spend in Budapest will be amazing!
Hungarian here. I 've been living in the UK for 9 years but I lived in Florida for a while before. (and grew up in Hungary of course :) ) Although I love to visit the US for holidays, and I find most Americans friendly and great people, I think that's a completely different world compared to what we got used to in Europe. We don't have AC because 9 months out of 12 we heat our houses because it's cold outside. The older buildings are protected and can't be renovated because they are part of the world heritage. The stores are closed on holidays because everyone should celebrate at home and not work.

Well, yeah the AC topic seems to be a reaccuring one within the comments. I used to live in Fort Worth, TX and in the beginning I have brought with me a hoodie even during the summer to avoid freezing to death inside the buildings. After a while I have got used to it, so I think the reason for the difference is what we are used to, therefore it make sense that Hungarians are getting sick from using air conditioning, especially when used heavily or for the first time in the season when it is a shock for the body every time, compare to Americans who are used to a cooler temperature (naturally or made with AC) throughout the years.
ACs can accumulate mold and bacteria. We have them checked yearly and still they do. I think most ppl who get sick get allergic reaction to these. Our AC service (repair) guy told us to use the Dry MODE often, which is something we'd never use as we either need cooling or heating. But the Dry mode removes the humidity from inside the machine and so it can't develop mold as easily.

I am Belgian and AC makes me sick too.
Hungary is my all time favourite country. My wife is from Hungary so I’ve been there many, many times over the years. The culture there is unique and very charming.
agree 1000% with the ac, i always get sick whenever im anywhere near it
yes. it's totally unnatural. It doesn't feel good or right for me. I rather open a window or turn some fans on.
I’m American and speak fluent Hungarian but never been to Hungary. Would like to visit some day.
If you are not use too AC you will get sick. I`m from Poland we are not using AC too and I get really sick two times in summer once when I was in dentist who get AC on full, second when I walk a lot in the hot and then go to the shoping mole. A sympathetic, nice couple with warm heart.
I am a native Hungarian living in Hungary and I was extremely delighted to listen to your experience in our country! Welcome again! :)
When I was in New York, I get really sick because of the AC .... outside 40° and inside 15°... It's not healthy...
I’m happy to see Americans love my country!
Thank you so much, at the age of 7, in 1956, my parents were separated. My brave mother picked up myself and two brothers and fled. Dude, u will... When Ac is too strong u get a cold, thats a fact. i'm hungarian thats also a fact, but totally unrelated.
Does love like this exist anymore? They appreciate every little thing and share it with each other.
We have this old yet powerful tradition of leaving a window open :)
Whenever my grandparents turned on the AC I came down with the worst cold ever. 2 weeks of suffering, in the middle of the summer. I hated the artificial cold created by that germ-spreading machine.

Budapest is amazing, better than London,Paris,Rome,Vienna,Prague etc together:)
Iam Hungarian, and my heart melted in the end of the video, I am so happy to hear this words, thank you!
Amazing couple!I'm hungarian but I'm living in Belgium now...so I got homesick from this video..❤😘
Nokedli 4 life :D ✊🏼
I’m half Hungarian and half Czech. My family came to America in 1920s. My grandma and mom still make veal paprikash exactly how you describe it. Thank you for sharing
I am glad that Sir Anthony Hopkins liked it here :D
Hah, I'm Hungarian and I too am afraid I get a cold from air conditioning.

As a Hungarian, it is very good to hear these. I'm glad that people of other nationalities have such a good opinion of our country.
Actually the reason why we hungarians don't have AC in our homes is beacause we are poor AF.
Thank you for your kind words! Best wishes to you! Robert, from Hungary
I love how the lady said "nokedli", it was just perfect!
Such a nice couple, I wish them the best from Hungary!
The rose petal ice cream place is called Gelarto Rosa Budapest, located by the St. Steven Basilica. The name is a play on the words gelato and art. It's exclusive, delicious and vegan, I can definitely recommend it.

You are such lovely people! I loved listening to every minute of this.
AC is not good if you have like, with ac 23 celsius in your room and then you go out to a 37 celsius. For your body is totally overkill...
I'm American & visited Hungary twice in 2022. I expect to go again in 2023. Most of my time was spent in Debrecen, which is lovely. I will definitely add Gelarto Rosa to my TO DO list for 2023. Your video was really informative & helpful. Thanks!

It’s so great to hear these words about my country! ❤️🇭🇺
From Ireland and here over 21 years. it is a really nice place to live. Safe beautiful and still affordable.
It was so heart warming to hear this nice couple. About the fridge size: you people have cold store at home in the US, not fridge. In Europe we store the grocery in the supermarket not at home. :)
What a lovely couple!
I'm really proud of being a Hungarian, and thank you for your kind words towards my home.
🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺❤The way you speak about my birth country is truly amazing! Thank you!❤ 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺
Truly beautiful words! Thank you so much for sharing this with us Hungarians. God bless you!

very correct introduction, well done guys,I hope somedays you will return and visit Hortobagy,Pecs,Balaton, etc
Your description was so beautiful! I got emotional when you were talking about the view from the Castle, and all the light lighting up! I'm happy that you had such a great time here!
I'm happy to hear that you found Hungary a good place to live and told these very nice words about my country.
Incredible detailed observation of Hungary by this brilliant couple. Thank you for sharing you experiences.
I'm American, and cannot speak a single word of Hungarian. Would that be a problem if I decided to move there?? Thanks.
I fell in love with Hungary when I visited late last year. I would love to go back!
For me as an Hungarian person it’s really exiting that what other nations think about us. The fact that they said good things ‘bout us it makes me happy. I think our best think in the culture is definitely the food and I’m glad that they tried it. The food has a really different taste here you love it or hate it there’s no between and yes the ac makes u sick.
Lived there for a year and a half and pronounce Budapest correctly. Seem like good people though
I got all choked up hearing such beautiful things about us! Thank you!
I'm Hungarian, my husband is American we always fight over the AC 😂
I'm glad to hear, that your time in Hungary was pleasant. It also made me remember that my country is a little treasure in the world. Thank you for this video.
Hi! I'm Eszter from Hungary. I am very glad to have heard your positive opinion about my country. You remembered the Hungarians, they live in a beautiful place.I enjoyed when you talked about our traditions and history. I hope you'll come back one day.
Great video, thank you for uploading and the effort of making this one.
Lovely couple 🙏☺️❤️
Magyarorszag szeretlek!
It's amazing to hear how much they had liked our country. Wonderful the way how they talked about our traditions, foods and habits. It's interesting to see how much more fascinating this things for them. They was shocked how beautiful are the churches, buildings and the sunset view. They are a very nice couple and their speach is heartwarming. I think hungarians should be more proud of their own country
Im Hungarian from Transylvania! I wanna see ur impression from Transylvania! If u guys like the silent, beautiful Mountains u must to see Carpatic Mountains! 😍 Im been apriciated if u visited!
Nice recommendation on Roses ice cream, I lived in Budapest for 30 years, but I have never heard of it!
I'm a %100 Hungarian,I lived in US,... in all ,5 different states ... more than 12 years,I LOVE A/C...
Well guys u look just like hungarians to me
I can say on behalf of every hungarian,Im very happy these lovely word what they sad about us.I love that kind of emphaty how they loves hungarian foods, culture, safety livings and how they can't understand why hungarian peoples think the air conditioning make them sick(by the way my mom also hate them).
Thankful that these nice people shared their hearts with all of us
We don't have AC because 9 months out of 12 we heat our houses because it's cold outside. The older buildings are protected and can't be renovated because they are part of the world heritage. The stores are closed on holidays because everyone should celebrate at home and not work.
"It's incredible how safe Budapest is" -- wonder if that could mayyybe be related to Orban's refugee policy?
Thank you for the nice words. Greetings from Budapest. :)
Lovely couple and the way you talk about our country is heartwarming. Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed your time here with us! Bless you!
For me its the other way, moved to America from Budapest :) Miss it so much. Here in LA we have MORE people begging for money and its not safe -.-
It was a pleasure to hear how excited you were talking about Hungary. It was very nice that you remember so many things about our country for example our holidays, our foods and our traditions. I hope that you would travel here again, because there are lot of remaining attractions, Balaton lake, the cities of Eger and Szilvásvárad and the castle of Fűzér etc. I wish you all the best!
The 10 stories you are talking about we call them "Panels" and they are sorta hard to maintain on the outside so they might look rough, but the actual flats inside are usually pretty nice. Some of them are actually 2-3 room flats too, so they are not even that small.
That thing about A/C, the Chinese think the same way too (I'm Chinese).
AC is fine for 5-10 minutes, but then it enters into your bones ;-)
Well, yeah the AC topic seems to be a reaccuring one within the comments. I used to live in Fort Worth, TX and in the beginning I have brought with me a hoodie even during the summer to avoid freezing to death inside the buildings. After a while I have got used to it, so I think the reason for the difference is what we are used to, therefore it make sense that Hungarians are getting sick from using air conditioning, especially when used heavily or for the first time in the season when it is a shock for the body every time, compare to Americans who are used to a cooler temperature (naturally or made with AC) throughout the years.
The lighting of the candles sounds like “All Souls Day”. A catholic practise of praying for the dead.
Thank you for this wonderful description of my birthplace ❣️
You are lovely 😊 people.A big hug from Budapest.🇭🇺
The claim that air conditioning is harmful, is true. it dries out the nasal mucosa and makes it more susceptible to viruses and bacteria.
Yeah, I can't stand AC either. My throat and eyes get dry, and I feel uncomfortably cold.
