Rachel's a native American who spent 18 months in Hungary, including Kecskemét and other places. She mastered spoken Hungarian while there. She's awesome and a good friend. :)
Once while I was a student in college in Budapest, I traveled with a foreign student to class. He saw the trams and suddenly said: "Wow! Hungary must be very rich to bring back the retro-trams!" I looked away and said: "Sure.. that´s what happened.." :D
Am I the only Hungarian who keeps coming back to be reminded that I do actually live in an amazing place? Just had to be viewed from a different viewpoint. Her Hungarian pronunciation is amazing!
I'm a black student in Gödölló, Hungary.. The transportation is really nice, and I heard they've been through alot as a country, they're really a strong country, the language is a big barrier for me although I take Hungarian classes... it's been a nice experience since I came here, they're nice people unlike what I heard before I came here... But I really thought I'll have friends from Hungary but it just difficult cos of the language. I hope I make hungarian friends soon.
Good luck dude, we get better I promise! Try talking to them in english, or maybe ask them to teach you swear words, Hungarians find swearing hella funny
I don't know why, but as a hungarian I've felt super chilled during the video, hearing my culture, country, traditions from a foreigner who can understand us. ( I wish 2000 HuF would be equal with 10 USD :D it is around 6 dollars and 50cents )
As a french guy living in Hungary, I totally enjoyed her presentation of the country. She’s adorable. There’s so many things about Hungary that i guess even locals don’t appreciate enough and she grasped the essence so well. Thanks for that!!
I'm a Hungarian in Manchester for the last 10 years! I've never thought an American could make me feel homesick! Well she's very good at it! Very good, intelligent video! 👍
this is one of the best reviews I`ve ever seen. The lady approaches our culture with such respect and understanding that it really touched me. Especially when she involves Hungarian words and sayings. Good on ya girl! We should be really glad that someone from overseas has this kind of impression of us.
This is the third video I’ve watched about foreigners speaking of Hungary and each mentioned the nose blowing thing 😂 never even realised its a thing 🤦🏼♀️
Wow :O As a Hungarian I'm impressed how you pronounce Hungarian words. Thank you all the good things you told about us, and I'm glad you enjoyed your time here :)
It breaks my heart how one can see our socio-economyc problems and disasters left from several different centuries so purely and lovely as goegeous things. But yes, they are gorgeous - like a ballade. It's in the peoples soul and probably that's why I could never leave my country. Beautiful description. Thank you!
*I'm a German who works over the internet and moved to Hungary in the summer. I really like it here but feel kinda lonely, I don't know where to meet people in Zalaegerszeg. I'm kinda introverted, not a party animal.*
Dear Alex, I am hungarian, speaks English and just started to learn German for fun and maintain my good memory. We can emal to each other or talk on skype. I can teach you hungarian and we could practice a bit of German. Interested? (szilimaria@gmail.com). By the way I am living in London now, but my home town is Kaposvár close to Zalaegerszeg. I have been once, and I loved Zegerszeg, it is a nice city. Have a great day.
I'll join the team of Hungarians complimenting on her presentation style and careful and respectful description of her experiences. I just want to say a big thank you for this video, it represents a cultural awareness that I feel is lacking in general. Also, if only you'd know how relatable the situation was with getting lost and dehydrated and having to ask for water from an elderly couple... that's just what me and my friends end up doing when we need a little getaway in the countryside :D
Oh she is so lovely, I'm happy that she had a great time here. It was nice listening to her stories. I think she definitely sees Hungary through pink glasses, but I can understand. :) Sure it's a different thing living here than just visiting. I hope she'll have the opportunity to revisit our country.
I've been to Hungary 7 times and love it there, their educational system has switched from German to English as a second language so more and more of the youth there can converse in English especially in Budapest so if your planning a trip to Europe I would definitely recommend putting Budapest on your itinerary, it has maintained it's old world charm. Thanks for the upload it brought back so many good memories.
Thank you so much! As a hungarian i almost cried at this, it is just so happy to see that you loved this time you spended by us. I love how you can see the world through these kind of lenses, they make it more and more beautyful. :) Some stereotypes say we hungarians are very pessimistic and it may be true but i never heard about my country like this. This was beautyful, as i heard those scentenes i just wanna visit Hungary but i already live here :D
It was nice to hear that a foreigner would praise Hungary so much and I really like her enthusiastic and optimist view of Hungary. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
Love how she says at the beginning that public transportation is great in Europe. She has obviously never been to Slovakia, the trains are either on fire or flooded😂😂😂
Best country image video ever! Thank you so much for your kind and respectful words! I'm wondering how much time you spent in the country so you were able to get such a good understanding of us, our lives, our struggles, but I am happy to hear that you left with such nice impressions! 🙂 You are most welcome to visit again! ❤️
For Americans its weird that Europeans are hung up on what happened 100years ago, because for Americans saying 200 years ago, was a long time and is considered history. For us Europeans saying 100-200 years ago, its like talking about last year. For us it's not a long time, its within reach, for we have been here for 1000s of years. Its really interesting to see their point of view.
Teachers are indeed rotating between classrooms in primary and secondary/high schools, so basically every class has their own classrooms, honestly I didnt know its different in the US :D But at the Uni or Colleges we do the opposite, I mean every subject has its own classroom or auditorium, just like in the States
5:30 Usually we have a bigger lunch break when we can go to the canteen and have lunch. Also, usually the students have to move around and the teacher has a fixed place :) It would be difficult to teach some subjects otherwise (chemistry, physics etc).
Hi! I'm Hungarian and it's great to hear amazing things from others and I was surprised when you said that transportation is great because we, Hungarians hate Máv cause it's always late so it's a bit wierd that you like it but I'm glad you like our country ❤️
I'm Hungarian, and I really enjoyed watching this video, hearing these things made me feel proud and I'm glad to have this country as my home. On the other hand, the key sentence was this: "you can still feel the weight the communism had on this country". We managed to get rid of it as a form of government, but it had a huge impact on us. That's the sad reality, yes. But thank God, now we have democracy and we are working on it to left behind its aftermathes. Thanks for this account on her's experiences 😊
Hey :) as shocking to me when I was reading your comment and several others.... I can see Hungarians actually can speak English 😮!!!! Which is very surprising for me because most (like 90 per cent of Hungarians couldn't understand what was I saying even young people), I'm a student here in Hungary and I truly appreciate what she was saying in the video and yes it's very new and interesting for all people outside Hungary.... But unfortunately it's very hard to get Hungarian friends or even talk to them!!!! Can you explain why?!🙁 ...... It's like a barrier that can't let me interact and understand Hungarians 😔!
This lady is so darling. I appreciate her passion for my home country and our ways. Yes her pronunciation is excellent. I am glad you enjoyed your time in Hungary and that you cared to get to know the people and their ways better.
I'm literally in tears! It feels so good to hear such positive feedback, not to mention she went really in-depth. The majority of foreigners don't even know what's our lingua franca... Again, thanks a lot!
She carries herself in life so amazingly, I'll take an example of her, of how to relate to things and people. I write a happy list about Sofia where I live now - there were so many amazing little experiences and it is so easy to just get into the wash of daily life and forget about these highlights.
True. In Hungarian your use of language changes depending on who you are having a conversation with. Children, middle aged and the elderly. When speaking with the elderly, the form changes to show a level of respect...

Thank you for your passionate and kind description, I think you captured the really amazing things which we Hungarians tend to forget about in our pessimism and tendency to complain but I could not agree more with you (except you may have mixed the train experience with some other galaxy). Superb prononciation of our words!
This was very beautiful! I think I have never heard someone speak so respectfully about my country! I'm kind of thouched by it! I'm happy you made such memories during your stay! Take care :)
Guys, this is her beautiful feeling and talent of expression, which makes the world beautiful. I you would get her heart, you will be one of the happiest person on earth!
If you are coming again to Hungary in summertime I will help you to get you to a sunflower field. I am very much fond of them too, just the sight of it makes me happy. :) Sorry to hear that your plan was not successful but at least you have a great story about it right? All the best, Melinda
It was good to hear these nice words about our country and People. Thanks that you spent so much Time to know us. If you come back, please visit Sopron, the most beautiful city in Hungary. You'll love that.
I really enjoyed your video. You are a good observer, paying attention to all the details! Your insight regarding the Hungarian mindset is pretty accurate. Have an awesome day :)
Im from Szeged, this city is the best lololol N she cute but... our trains are not that good, I mean the "long"-distance rolling stock is mostly from the '70s and dirty af :D
Her: *likes the public transport*
(seemingly) every hungarian: *visible confusion*
Her pronunciation (villamos, Budapest, Kispest, madártej... etc.) is too perfect to be a non Hungarian.
but her english is too good to not be an american (pronunciation)
Rachel's a native American who spent 18 months in Hungary, including Kecskemét and other places. She mastered spoken Hungarian while there. She's awesome and a good friend. :)
She liked the trains? Never heard that before from anyone.
Video: *has "Hungarian" in title*
Hungarians in the comment section: It's the free real estate
Once while I was a student in college in Budapest, I traveled with a foreign student to class. He saw the trams and suddenly said:

Bojler eladó
Growing up in Australia in a hungarian household "Are you barefoot? You'll get sick. Put some socks on."
Jó tömegközlekedés...Nem gondoltam volna, hogy bárki ennek nevezné azt, amikor Pesten a kocsikat is elüti a villamos XD
teljesen igazad van
You seem to like Hungary more than the Hungarians themselves.
It's pretty sure, i think.
I mean it's different to live here then visit, soo- :')
She could pronounce the letter "gy". I've never seen a not-hungarian pronounce it well.
first second of the video: *I loved the transportation*
me as a hungarian: *wHAT THE FFF-*
Am I the only Hungarian who keeps coming back to be reminded that I do actually live in an amazing place? Just had to be viewed from a different viewpoint.

What rumors did you hear about the people?
I liked the nose sniffling part. As a Hungarian living in the UK, I just can't get used to the constant sniffling.
This is very educated, respectful and pleasant to listen to.
I don't know why, but as a hungarian I've felt super chilled during the video, hearing my culture, country, traditions from a foreigner who can understand us.
( I wish 2000 HuF would be equal with 10 USD :D it is around 6 dollars and 50cents )

“...Big cauldron thing.” 😂 Bogrács😅
first half of the video: interesting facts and insights about hungary
second half: SURVIVING THE SUNFLOWER FIELDS
„Don't sit there! You're not going to have children'”
When she said "They are strong" I felt so good. :D
This girl is so well raised. :) I am a hungarian and I am shocked hearing these details that are so normal for me. :)
I can see Hungary, I click, greet brothers, greet from Poland
"They're people, just like we are"😂
This is the third video I’ve watched about foreigners speaking of Hungary and each mentioned the nose blowing thing 😂 never even realised its a thing 🤦🏼♀️
Nem tudtam, hogy valaha bárkinek is tetszene a 3as metró :DDD Főleg Kispesten
Hát nem tudom hogy tetszett neki a máv meg a vonat aranyos fél órás késésekkel
She's very nice and open minded, and her pronounciation is amazingly accurate

She was just so kind, and I’m proud to be a Hungarian because of Her :)
"They are people just like we are"
Fun fact.
Wow :O As a Hungarian I'm impressed how you pronounce Hungarian words. Thank you all the good things you told about us, and I'm glad you enjoyed your time here :)
A refreshingly intelligent video report about experiences in Hungary.
It breaks my heart how one can see our socio-economyc problems and disasters left from several different centuries so purely and lovely as goegeous things. But yes, they are gorgeous - like a ballade. It's in the peoples soul and probably that's why I could never leave my country.

Amazing job telling your stories about Hungary. I'm glad you had some fun and appreciate the people and the culture.
*I'm a German who works over the internet and moved to Hungary in the summer. I really like it here but feel kinda lonely, I don't know where to meet people in Zalaegerszeg. I'm kinda introverted, not a party animal.*
We can meet:) I live in Veszprém, which is like 120 km from Zalaegerszeg.
Wow, what a coincidence😮 Why did you choose Zalaegerszeg? (I live here, and it's nice, but I feel a bit small for me..)
What a sweet young woman! I loved listening to her as she is just so pleasant!
I am happy to hear you liked living in Hungary!
Actually, "birds milk" is called floating island in British if I remember.
Magyarok! Nagyon jó, hogy van egy ilyen videó
Én is magyar vagyok
*Jó napot! I'm a German guy who moved to Zalaegerszeg in the summer :)*
Igen
Én is!
Magyarország jobb mint az USA

Yes! Finally someone appreciates the Madár tej. Thank you !

I am always proud of that I am Hungarian, but after this video I feel even more proud.
Thanks to this video the world sees who we are. Thank you. ❤️❤️
This makes me to go and live in Hungary
Actually Kispest is one of the district of Budapest. Great video.
Also we have "name days"
Shops are open again on Sundays. Public transportation is great indeed in Budapest compairing it to another European big citys’.
I absolutely love this girl. Thank you for saying some good words about my homeland.🥺❤️

Her appearence is 100% Hungarian to me.
I thought the same thing
Love how she says at the beginning that public transportation is great in Europe. She has obviously never been to Slovakia, the trains are either on fire or flooded😂😂😂
Yay, Szolnok was mentioned! It always makes me smile, when my hometown is mentioned.
Madartej (Bird Milk) is actually a dessert known in English as Floating Island
Thank you for sharing your videos
Best country image video ever!

I open the video, and the first thing I hear is "public transport is amazing in Hungary"
how
Thank you for the very educated, insightful, respectful, informative and fun video about Hungary and the Hungarians!
Did she travel with MÁV though?
Hi I am a hungarian person and I love that you liked the country, and the hungarian language is the 2nd or 3rd hardest in the world
As an hungarian..i gotta say you can say hungarian words rlly easy for a non-hungarian
The trains really have traditions, especially the ones that were made around 1960 and are still in use.
Thanks for the kind words about Hungary!!! Happy u enjoyed it!!
Waoo you pronounce Hungarian cities very well! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in my country! thank you for sharing your experience! :)
I still live in Hungary but this made me homesick

Try public transport at Miskolc-Ózd, you change your mind and there're the lot of delays.
Feels so great to see you talking so lovely about the country! Hugs from Szolnok ^^
