  • Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Trompowsky Attack!
    There are many good chess openings for black against d4 including the King's Indian Defense, Bogo-Indian Defense, Benko Gambit, Benoni Defense, Nimzo-Indian Defense, Grunfeld Defense, and Black Knights' Tango. All of these are top tier chess openings for black after playing 1. ...Nf6. With all of these strong chess opening systems for black, the chess player may be intimidated by all of these potential lines and variations. In particular, the chess opening theory of the King's Indian Defense is very dangerous and complex. However, we can stop the King's Indian Defense and all of these other systems with a single move - by playing the Trompowsky Attack. The Trompowsky Attack is a top tier chess opening for white that can help you win games fast and beat higher rated players. The Trompowsky Attack is also good for beginner chess players who simply want to focus on chess opening strategy, chess opening principles, chess opening ideas, chess opening moves, and chess opening tricks as opposed to studying tons of opening theory. The Trompowsky is very easy to learn, and in this video we give a full repertoire including the Poisoned Pawn Variation, Big Center Variation, and response against the Classical Defense. The Trompowsky Attack is is rich in chess strategy, lines, variations, moves, ideas, principles, traps, tricks, checkmate patterns, and theory. The Trompowsky Attack is a good chess opening for beginners, and a good chess opening for intermediate players. In this beginners chess lesson, we hope to show that by playing this chess opening, you can improve at chess quickly and use chess opening tricks and traps to use games fast. The King's Indian Defense, Grunfeld Defense, Black Knights' Tango, Bogo-Indian Defense, Benoni Defense, Nimzo-Indian Defense, and Benko Gambit are all great chess openings for black against d4 but we stop them all with the Trompowsky Attack! Whether you have been playing the Trompowsky for years, or are simply a chess beginner checking it out, we hope you enjoy learning these lines and variations of the Trompowsky Attack!

      Hey Bob, thanks for the kind words! It's been fun making these videos and it's super cool to hear when people are enjoying them. I was surprised as well to see how aggressive the Trompowsky is. I am an 1. e4 player as well and many 1. d4 players get a wrap for being slow and positional but if white wants to get an aggressive and attacking game they definitely can. Happy hew years to you as well my friend!

    This was the favorite opening as white of the Russian blitz master Genrikh Chepukaitis, who was feared by GMs... at blitz, anyway. He could beat the best attackers in the world, Tal, Nezhmetinov, Korchnoi.
    Then-World Champion Petrosian's wife forbade him to play Chip, as he was known, as he might very well lose and it would be embarrassing.
    As black, Chepukaitis often played the Hippo.
    He liked to bang out superfast openings that he knew thoroughly to get to the middlegame. He thought the Tromp was as tactically rich as the Kings Gambit!
    I'm glad to be reminded of this valuable opening. Thanks, Solomon! Looking forward to your Raptor class.

    Wow! I'd been messing with the Trompowski for years. Watched your video recently. Played a game on LiChess today and after 2 moves in a Modern Defense, I wound up on the white side of a Tromp. It went down a line that your video had covered perfectly: 1.d4 g6 2.Bg5!? Nf6 3.Bxf6 exf6 4.e3 Bg7 5.h4 h5 6.Ne2 O-O 7.g4 hxg4 8.h5 g5? 9.h6 Bh8 10.Ng3 Kh7? 11.Bd3+
    He resigned here after only 10 moves. Interestingly, Stockfish indicates his resignation wasn't premature:
    ( [Stockfish 16] 92:M9 11.Bd3+ f5 12.Bxf5+ Kg8 13.h7+ Kg7 14.Nh5+ Kh6 15.Qxg4 Be5 16.Nf6+ Bh2 17.Rxh2+ Kg7 18.Qxg5+ Kh8 19.Qg8+ Rxg8 20.hxg8=Q# ) Awesome content Solomon!

  • @fredheinz1134

    Regarding d4 Nf6 Bg5 d5: black avoids an isolated pawn by playing c6 before developing his bishop to d6, thus we have 3. Bxf6 exf6, e3 c6, c4 dxc, Bxc4 Bd6. Black's bishop is very strong at d6, and the doubled f pawns are not really an issue, as it will advance to f5 and allow the queen knight to come to f6 via Nbd7. Black can use his kingside pawns to advance toward white's castled king. I realize you cant cover every line in a video, but I'm just pointing out that c6 before Bd6 eliminates the issue of an isolated pawn that you mentioned.

    Isn't the Trumpowski attack where you don't exchange the bishop for knight the Torre attack?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 года назад +1

      Hey Adrian! Great question! So technically the Torre Attack happens the moment you play Bg5. From there, it is up to you whether you want to take that knight off the board or continue with keeping the bishop pair in action. Hope this helps!

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 года назад +1

      Very! Ya it's a lot of fun for white, with playable positions that you will be more comfortable with than your opponent because most of the time black won't have much prep for the Trompowsky compared to the (probably) hundreds of hours they've spent preparing for a move like 2. c4

    As a Kings Indian player I find it infuriating when white plays the Trompowsky, which is the reaction I wanted when I was a d4 player who played the Trompowsky. As I expected, you showed some variations I've never seen before, (thank you for that) but it feels like you left out some things. White surely can't get a winning or superior position in every variation, can he? What would YOU play as black against the Trompowsky?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 года назад +1

      Hey Dennis! Ya so the lines I think are solid for black are when black just plays 2. ...d5, ready to take on f6 with the e-pawn. If white doesn't capture then black can just keep on developing. There were some variations around the 5 minute to 7 minute point which gives white a comfortable game but is 0.00 or barely better for white according to computer. Playing 2. ...Ne4 followed by something like d5 is a good option. And, even that line I showed at the end in which we potentially give up our b2 pawn and c3 pawn is technically better for black - they can just lose very quickly if they don't know what they're doing. Hope this helps!

    Loved the video, but I have to ask, what would’ve happened if in 20:01 the Queen took the f2 pawn instead of playing a6?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 года назад +1

      Glad you enjoyed it brotha! Ya so Qxf2 gives white a +3.4 advantage as we play Rdf1 which forces that queen to g2 and we then continue with h4 and the queen is unable to move... there is no way to immediately trap it but it can get trapped very quickly if black is not careful. I mean even if black takes with gxh4 we can play Qf4 (threatening to play Qxf7) followed by Rfg1 and you have yourself a queen. Hope this helps! Happy new years!

    I have been playing an opening for years which you have 0 videos on... Can you guess it? It has similarities to the following openings which you do have videos about: the Trompowsky, the Stonewall, the Colle (Koltanowski), the London System. Have you guessed it yet? Oh yeah, the TTA (Terrible Torre Attack)! Is it often overlooked? Sure, but its better than its reputation I promise you... and you have covered worse openings... much worse (so it wasnt named after an animal like the Crab but thats not my fault!) All I ask is one video... I have decent success with it, even if it doesnt transpose into one of the above-mentioned opening. My old chess teacher (Alfred Carlin, god rest his soul) once beat a GM with it (Christiansen) and he was 'just' a NM so it cant be all bad! One video, thats all I ask... One video. Thanks!
