    The biggest mistake USA can make is to treat Russia like Iraq--some anonymous dude on Reddit.

      the biggest mistake Russia can make is doing something that would directly draw the USA into the war.
      Our military is much better trained and equipped and our economy is big enough to sustain levels of attack russia can’t even dream about

      The USA "treated" Iraq by invading it. That's not ever happening with Russia. The USA is treating Russia like they treated the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, by funneling weapons to the opposing side in a proxy war. Except the Ukrainians have killed more Russians than the Afghans did in ten years

    • @dukebanerjee4710
      @dukebanerjee4710 2 года назад +22

      @Khepri NATO proxy war, not US proxy war. But the Soviets and Chinese used Vietnamese lives to fight a proxy war against the US, and the US used Afghan lives to fight a proxy war against the Soviet Union. On the other hand, the North Vietnamese needed Chinese and Soviet help to fight the US, the Afghans needed US help to fight the Soviet Union, just like the Ukrainians need NATO help to fight the Russians.
      It's not a one-sided deal, and to say that the Ukrainians are NATO puppets is stupid. In fact, the Ukrainians have been pressuring NATO for more and more weapons, and it is NATO that is being careful. Understandably, Ukraine is concerned about their survival, while NATO is concerned about avoiding WW3.

    • @dukebanerjee4710
      @dukebanerjee4710 2 года назад +18

      @Khepri Yes, unlike the US. Because the US is actually concerned about the consequences. What happens if US troops are caught killing Russians? Do you think the Russians would let that slide? That would lead to catastrophic escalation - WW3.

      In Afghanistan the US killed about 1600 civilians in 20 years. Compare that to how many the Russians have killed in Ukraine in not even 6 months. The Americans are into precision bombing. The Russians are into completely demolishing and destroying whole towns and the civilians in them. It is how they conducted their wars in Syria, Chechnya and Afghanistan. This is the end result of a system that values the group rather than the individual. The Russian ideology of Eurasianism.
      If the American generals cleared their throats its because they know that in their societies killing masses of civilians is a big no no. Something Russian generals are not made to be aware of. The opposite, in fact.

      @@ExtrovertedCenobite Russia has lost between 7,000 and 15,000 soldiers. Wounded who cannot rapidly return to duty generally number about twice the number of dead. That would mean that Russia has lost between 21,000 and 45,000 troops in four weeks of conflict. To put that into perspective, Russia reported 14,400 killed through 10 years of war in Afghanistan.
      The initial invasion force numbered about 190,000 troops. However, that included militias in the Donbas and security forces (Rosgvardiya) for occupation. Ground combat troops numbered about 140,000. Thus, Russia may have lost about a quarter of its initial combat force.
      Russia has moved reinforcements and replacements into Ukraine to compensate for these losses, which will offset them to some degree. However, these reinforcements and replacements likely lack the training and experience of the early deployers, especially elite units like paratroopers. The loss of skilled troops and leaders will be felt in the conduct of tactical operations

      Why would you think this would end soon? There are no conditions for peace. The Russians won't stop until they accomplish whatever their goals are, one of which is the destruction of Ukraine. The Ukrainians see this as an existential battle, and if they cave in to territorial demands, the Russians will only regroup and attack again later, more effectively having learned from their mistakes, so they have no choice to keep fighting. So yeah, since no one can say anything about when this ends, we can at least talk about conditions of victory on each side.

There are too many moving parts to make any kind of forecast that doesn't really show your own preferences."

In this age when we are talking about flying cars, hard to believe there is no other option to this war. I only see sending billions of military equipment to prolong the war as the only possible option, cComing at cost of lives of innocent people on both sides - UKR civilians and RUS young army personnel, but soon lack of food in Africa and even lack of heating for elders in European countries, job losses in Germany, and millions seeing their benefit payments reduced and having their hardship increased. With all due respect for these two general/admiral, I disagree. Russia has already carved out a big chunk of the country. They may settle for a ceasefire, but only after they reach their goal. Instead of providing the Ukrainians with weapons, we need to send teams to Russia to stop this war. We need to give them assurance that NATO will never initiate an attack on their soil. I am sure they will want to negotiate. Enough is enough! Don't turn this to a bigger war.
