At 6:33 where you use a cell formula for the average cost, you can simply drag the blue block of D2 over the rest of the averages to be calculated and excel will impose the rest of the formulas just like you did. (:
I wish we had this sort of thing in America. It's so boring and dull seeing all the automobiles driving everywhere and I think if we had this bicycle system (even though it's quite expensive) , a lot of people would be outside more and getting exercise I myself have indulged in this "bicycle religion" in the Netherlands and ride my bike almost everywhere. Great video! Edit: I’m certainly not saying that living in Europe and America don’t have their pros and cons. I was just reveling over the cool bicycle system Europe has, sorry if I came off the wrong way to anyone.
If you like living in tiny European houses, paying high rent, having less space, go for it really. No one's stopping you. I'm not shitting on Europe, I live in Prague, it's absolutely beautiful. I can go to work by bike, tram or bus. Public transport is excellent. But rents are high, space is low, and it's quite crowded and that's a problem if you're introverted. Living anywhere has its pros and cons. Same with America. America is car centric, but it's more spaced out, bigger, rent is way lower in most American cities, and you have the convenience that comes with cars. People living there love that, so let them keep it right? Why change an entire society to get only a part of what you want? come live in Europe with us, and get something that you want that's already there.
@@mixrable1212 Oh yeah, I totally agree with you. I meant no disrespect when writing this comment, I was just reveling over Europe’s bicycle system and how cool it would be to see more bicycles around. As you know, in America, people who can’t afford a car usually take a bike to commute as an alternate means if transportation (possibly a scooter or something else). But bicycle lanes aren’t respected by a lot drivers on the road and accidents quite frequently occur. So I thought it would be interesting to see more tolerance for bicycles in the states. But I definitely agree with you that there are pros and cons to living anywhere and that we shouldn’t shove the cons aside and only address at the pros.
@@thebagelboyjr9351 I'd say that powered bicycles should be treated like bikes. That way you can get one and just zip to work the way you want it. Making bicycle lanes costs hundreds of millions. And in a low demand country like America, it wouldn't fly with the taxpayers. That being said, it's cool that you have a hobby for something healthy. Good for you man
Another great thing about these kinds of bike parking is just how incredibly space efficient they can be. Just a rough estimate, but in the space of 2 car parking places, I estimate you could fit about 50 bikes if you have one of those bike racks where you have two levels. Now imagine a parking garage with 12.500 cars in it next to Utrecht Centraal. Seattle SEA-TAC airport has a parking garage of about 13000 places, just go and look that monstrosity up. It's 300 by 400 meters on the longest sides and has 8 floors (so say it's 32 meters high), making it easily much larger than Utrecht Centraal (the actual station) which is only 250 meters wide and 90 meters along the tracks, and 18 meters high at its highest. It's absolutely insane how much space car parking can take up.
@@jilleswassink7762 Nothing was wrong with it in particular, but the usage of Excel shown in the video shows of an inexperienced user. Summation, making averages, etc, all this stuff has builtin shortcuts not taken by Bruno. And I'm not trying to rip on the guy for sure, but there's easier ways to do what was shown.

Actually, last week when I was away from Amsterdam, I heard that you Rotterdammers also have your own cute little airport, and apparently you even a little soccer club. So cute!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 'baggeren' is more than just bicycles. It's basically any job where a body of water/waterway is made deeper by removing material from the bottom. Usually this material is sand or silt, but in this case it's bicycles. The literal translation is dredging. I suspect you know this but I just wanted to clear things up for those who aren't familiar with the language.
Ps after you made the formula B2/C2 you can drag in the button right corner of the cell and down to automatically generate alle the other cells. (I.e. b3/c3)
We defeated the Spaniards on ice skates during the 80 year war, because they didn't knew how ice works. So maybe bicycles can have an advantage in some environments?
British here, wish we had this as it looks far more secure as well as keeping a city centre looking tidy. We have to park on the street and if you own something remotely nice theft is a massive problem as the police barely consider it a crime. My mountain bike is worth as much as my motorcycle yet the police dont treat them like the same class of crime. Very irritating.

30,000,000 parking structure divided by 12500 parking slots divided by 150 year life of structure = 16 per yr cost per bike, or 4 cents per day to park

@@wimahlers Excellent summary, and yes, the correct comparison would be a parking lot for a railway station or airport. The reality is most railway stations do not have sufficient parking as it is not really feasible, and airport parking tends to be more expensive to park in than the average parking lot. Here in South Africa the main reason why bicycles are not used more, is a lack of secure parking. I walk or even drive rather than cycle to the shops for example merely because I cannot park my bike safely at the shopping centre. This makes a bicycle purely a recreational tool here.

Paul B sport? Dutch just call it transport ;)
@@thomashoek That's actually a very important distinction. There are also plenty of Dutch who cycle as a sport. If you have foreigners wonder why the Dutch don't seem to wear helmets or special clothing on bikes, it is because those using bikes for transport don't use them. But those who use them for sports, as is basically the only way to ride in bike in many parts of the world, _do_ use them. Also here. You can also a difference in the types of bikes: lightweight but fragile, vs the here more normal heavier and more sturdy and more complete (mudguards, lights, reflectors, baggage carriers...) bikes used for everyday use.

I wish we had this sort of thing in America. It's so boring and dull seeing all the automobiles driving everywhere and I think if we had this bicycle system (even though it's quite expensive) , a lot of people would be outside more and getting exercise
I myself have indulged in this "bicycle religion" in the Netherlands and ride my bike almost everywhere.

I have been so many times to the Netherlands, live them, love the bikes and love Amsterdam!
The average cost of parking space is actually 4.135 (or 25.800.000 / 6.240).

For bicycles it's called "fietsvissen" ( bicycle fishing)

In California, it is said that the cost of building a parking garage for cars is $30,000 per parking space. I don't know how to convert to euros and compare with the bicycle parking space numbers, but obviously the cars cost a lot more. One question: Do they charge a fee for these underground bicycle parking spaces?
Man the Dutchs are different ! I mean, imagine a parking with a capacity of 12500 cars
The average cost per car in an underground car park in the US is 35000$. so a car park like that would cost 437.5 Mil $.

Ik had ni verwacht dat een zo’n ondergrondse fiets garage zo duur zou zijn
Wish we had that type of biking culture in England, and I would certainly love to see those types of bike garage's in London. We can dream, I guess.
Wow, I think I am in love with Netherland's bicycle's religion. And I am from from NYC.
In Zwolle there's one opening soon. 5.5K spaces and original cost of 23.5M. Probably gonna cost more because of delays.
In Alkmaar we have a underground bicycle garage for over a decade. So we are the bicycle underground parking pioneer I think.
Compared to the cost of an underground car parking spot it is actually dirt cheap.
Although you say the parking is expensive, it must be way cheaper than car parking. Many cities require all new buildings to include several floors of car parking as a condition of construction.
To illustrate here is just a copy of my reply from a different thread...
Do you mean the Utrecht railway station bicycle parking?
It costed about €30 million for 12,500 parking spaces.
See:
www.duic.nl/algemeen/grootste-fietsenstalling-ter-wereld-opent-maandag-in-utrechtt/#:~:text=De%20gemeente%20Utrecht%2C%20ProRail%2C%20NS,ruim%2030%20miljoen%20euro%20gekost.
Average costs per bicycle parking space:
30.000.000 / 12,500 = € 2400
To compare, the average costs for an underground parking place for cars in the USA is about $34,000 (about €28,700).
Above ground parking garages about $24,000 (about € 20,250) on average.
See:
shoup.bol.ucla.edu/HighCost.pdf
The minimum costs for a dedicated car parking space in the USA I could find is: $10,000 (about € 8,400).
See:
www.homeadvisor.com/cost/outdoor-living/pave-a-parking-lot/
Keep in mind that it often is €0 for parking bicycles in the city when parked against a tree, on a sidewalk or similar spots.
Not completely €0 because there are some few dedicated parking places for bicycles just on the surface.
And if there are any, it usually is just some painted line on some part of an existing sidewalk or some part of an existing road.
See, among others:
fietsberaad.be/wp-content/uploads/Hasselt_fietsenstalling.jpg
Notice that you can divide the costs per parking space by ten (given the above example).
To illustrate, it means (hypothetically) that in a street of 50 houses with a car parking place each, you can park 500 bicycles instead.
And then there is, of course, the yearly maintenance costs of parking garages (lights, cleaning, guarding, repairing, etc.).
I don't have any figures for that. But I think it is not unreasonable to assume that, on average, a car park is more expensive to maintain.
Also keep in mind that just building a separate above ground bicycle parking garage from the ground up would have been cheaper.
Railroad bicycle parking garages are more expensive because they are underground and integrated with the railway station itself.
I am not sure but I suspect that the building and maintenance costs for the following bicycle parking "garage" are much cheaper per bicycle parking space. See:
thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/het-parkeren-amsterdam-van-de-fiets-28038873.jpg
@@wimahlers Excellent summary, and yes, the correct comparison would be a parking lot for a railway station or airport. The reality is most railway stations do not have sufficient parking as it is not really feasible, and airport parking tends to be more expensive to park in than the average parking lot. Here in South Africa the main reason why bicycles are not used more, is a lack of secure parking. I walk or even drive rather than cycle to the shops for example merely because I cannot park my bike safely at the shopping centre. This makes a bicycle purely a recreational tool here.
This is so relateable. I live in the netherlands too. Everywhere you see a bike
