Just stumbled on this video and it was one of the best deep dives on a game that I’ve seen. Made playing this game for the first time more special. Thank you!
This was so good. Thank you for covering a Front Mission game in depth. This series is super underrated and surprisingly slept on in terms of content creation.
Front Mission is one of my favorite games of all time. I played the original Japanese version back in 1994 and I've finished it more times than any RPG/ strategy game I played. I also played the fan translated patched but not the other ports though. There was a specific play through that I tried basically cheating with save states and got Roid to 9999 on all stats. I basically allowed the enemies to go back to their trucks to reattach their limbs and keep destroying them without killing the enemies. He was at a point invulnerable to any enemies and can ravage any enemy in a single duel with just a switch skill with machine guns.
First video of yours I've found. I haven't finished it yet, but I really like how you're covering this. Instead of just focusing solely on the game or the story, you're actually talking about the concepts and inspiration behind the lore. I'm not really sure how to articulate this... In effect, instead of just factoids about a specific game, it's like a crash course to becoming a fan of the series. I guess that's how I'd say it. And I know this is possibly a symptom of being a newer channel, but I actually like that you're not brimming with wacky energy, schizophrenic editing, and forcing in jokes. There's a distinct lack of pretentiousness, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who appreciates that.
I heard about that 2's reasoning as well, they called it "adult content", is said to be some swear words and whatnot. Did they really though people in the west couldn't handle a little harsh language. Tsuchida said one of the reason 5 wasn't released overseas was because he felt players wouldn't understand the overall plot if they haven't played the other games first (who's fault is that I wonder) Luckily, this translation group stepped in and made a complete translation, so it's not a total loss. Apparently, Tsuchida also mentions how he was sick and tired of the franchise, or more specifically he admits he ran out of ideas on how to push the franchise forward I admit, I was very excited when I first heard Left Alive took place within the Front Mission universe, it even has veteran artist Yoji Shinkawa attached to it, and yet it flopped hard (mainly due to the buggy controls)
They released a compliation of games called Front Mission History, which included 1st, 2nd, and an enhanced port of third before Front Mission 4th came out but the kicker? They released it only in Japan.....and the Westerners will be lost.
If you don't like strategy games, Gun Hazard is a fantastic sidescrolling shooter rpg hybrid that, in my opinion, is one of the best games on the super famicom period. It feels so good to play, and it keeps all of the same mechanics present in the mainline series - albeit more streamlined as an action game. It's a beautiful game, and pushes the system to its limits in every regard from visuals to music. In fact, the OST is effectively a prototype version of the FF7 OST. It's also a direct sucessor to Assault Suits Leynos and Valken, it's seriously a dream game.
I was thinking that. However. I DID stumble onto a game in steam being worked on that's a mix of front mission, Xcom and Phoenix point. It's called Kriegsfront tactics and it looks fucking AMAZING.
@@sicknsaneofficial8646 Yep, I saw that one, looking good. The only thing I'm iffy about is that damage and losses are cumulative, so like XCOM it will possible to get into an unwinnable situation.
it blew me away when i was young too i was 5 when i first seen Macross-Robotech on VHS from Blockbuster and i was blown away! i love the trainer Valkyrie simply just for that such a good memory. I remember virtua on at the arcade! i met my wife who sadly passed away in 2017 at the arcade when i was 9 and she was 10... mecha she loved as well and we were designing a table top game i hope to finish for her. She hogged the Steel Battalion and when line of contact we bought a flat of redbull and 2 pizza's she wanted a xbox mic built in a helmet so i went to the army navy store and took apart the mic and bought a tankers helmet and i set it up for her.. we had some good times. I just got wicked nostalgic watching this and thinking about her and such at 01:12am lol maybe its too much insomnia but i like this channel liked and subbed. loved the vid and brought me down memory lane. do you take dono to the channel? Think imma go play FM5 that was the last game she got me heh
Your story of how you met your wife, and the great times you had with your shared interests was very cute and heartwarming! I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you never forget her.
I'm enjoying your videos, but sometimes it's hard to listen the narration because the game sound/soundtrack overlaps your voice or clash together. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to the next videos!
In the future, it might be a good idea to turn down the gameplay audio while you're explaining the story. You did so here, but it was louder near the start of that section. ANd again about 45 mins in.
wonder panzer literally translates to wonder tank not walking tank... German and Engilsh share a lot of words as German is the base language for English. French and Latin got mixed in there too and spanish is starting to get mixed in the US... but wonder in German means wonder in english. same with Africa and Afrika; pistole and pistol; Machinin and Machine... Oddly enough gun gets swapped out with pistole a lot. I mean they had "wonder weapons" in WW2 but they didn't walk. you didn't have a walking tiger tank or a walking V2 Rocket or a walking Maus tank... I only use those three because the Germans would site these things as wonder waffe or wonder weapons... sorry I enjoyed your video just thought I would give you that bit of knowledge...
Speaking as someone who played the DS version (which is more or less identical to the ps1 version) and the switch version. the critics issue is more with the game then the port. the switch port is fine, it had some issues at launch (crashes and slowdown) but they were more or less patched out for a while so if you wanna play, play the officially released version. I like the game but tuning your mechs gets old by the end. Ironically the second campaign alleviates this by giving you about half the fieldable units.

It's such a fantastic game too, it really hooked me from the first few minutes. Thanks for watching!
Now you gotta do super robot wsrs retrospective
I loved every Front Mission games. I started on FM 3, like everyone else but I enjoyed them all.

I've been playing this game since 2003 or 2004 and this is the best video I have seen about a game dear to my heart. Great job.
Hahah I’m in the same boat. I come back to it every two or three years
Hearing that music is bringing me back. Hell yeah

Really wish we could get a new release of this series that gets back to its tactical mech action roots. Even a new Gun Hazard would be welcome.

Your audio mixing is kind of screwed, its hard to hear you over the background gameplay sometimes
Then them commercials come in and blow your fucking eardrums 😅
how come most people skip front mission alternative?

The remakes are good. Only way to play 2 with any respect of one's time.

Interesting! I think they're bringing out a Front Mission 2 remake as well and I will definitely end up playing that one.
