Even Bayern was not extra physically capable, only after Flick took over, we started to see the work in the gym in the photos of Goretzka and others and even with our Coutinho on loan, and that in just a few months of training. It can also be similar in Barca.

This system only works with Bayern or PSG. Every other club has too much domestic competition. You can only play such a demanding style if you can rotate and rest a lot, and unless you're a big fish in a small pond that's not going to work.

@@apomalachel8787Bayern had intense conditioning programs during lockdown, while other teams were unable to train. Improving stamina was the only thing to do during this time.
Also, the Bundesliga gave Bayern a chance to get macht practice whereas some leagues did not play at all.
Then, the Bundesliga had finished 2 weeks before the Champions League playoffs continued which gave Bayern enough time to peak for this cup.
I very much doubt, that this intensity can be replicated.

I appreciate your honesty. At some moments I felt like I was the only Barca fan who had doubts about Flick, and thought that hiring him would’ve been as much of a gamble as hiring a De Zerbi. I respect him a lot and the fact that he managed to put the players in the position to succeed is commendable, but the Bayern team he inherited was absolutely stacked. My first choice is, without question, Nagelsmann, and possibly De Zerbi after. Managers who’ve proven that their success relies more on their tactical brilliance than their players and the finances of their clubs.

I agree with these sentiments. It’s weird. Right now, Barca fans seem absolutely set on Hansi Flick and I think it’s very reductive. It’s like mass psychosis. People only see “we have bad culture and hansi flick work hard, therefore he will magically fix Barca’s mentality and culture” And that’s just way too oversimplified.
You can’t just bring in a coach to completely transform a club. Hansi Flick doesn’t necessarily play to our squad strengths in any way. His philosophy isn’t wrong, but I could see a disconnect forming between him and the players who may not understand or be able to implement his style.

Well i respect your opinion and i can see what you mean but isn't that similar to Xavi who also loves to experiment with multiple line-ups and 90% of the time that doesn't work with us.
Most of the time we fail and we play haram ball style because players have to deal with multiple lineups, you gotta stick with maybe max 3 lineups and master that in training with your squad. I get what you say imagine if a player is injured and you need to play differently... but i think Flick knows this as well it's just that Flick played 4-2-3-1 and it worked with Bayern and once it works why change it? That lineup and good squad ofcourse gave him a sextuple, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I know that Flick knows more systems he is a world-class coach like Nagelsmann and RDZ. But i prefer the less risky Flick or Nagelsmann who have won in high-level football, they are all risky for the Barca job but going with RDZ is similar to keeping Xavi in terms of style, passion, desire,... we need someone who can make our squad more strength/physical and our mindset to create a killing goalscoring machine because that's what we lack goals/finishing.
Flick also potentially wants to change the whole medical staff and i think that's great because our medical staff sucks constant injuries. The training sessions are also too much passing and controlling instead of finishing with pressure... because we miss crazy chances a lot of times.
That's why i hope we go for Flick a new fresh air in terms of everything not only the coach but the whole coaching staff/medical/training... Nagelssman is also a good option but i prefer Flick. Remember if Flick succeeded at Germany everybody would’ve wanted him, give him a second chance, in 2020 he was the best coach in the world and still is one of the best coaches available at the moment that has experience on high level.
About the low budget, young players... i think he can create something with this squad especially if Gavi, Balde... come back, especially his physical training style 🏋‍♂and playing style ⚽. He can create something good and the transfer market will also come. My preference/opinion is 1. Flick, 2. Nagelsmann, 3. RDZ, 4. Conte.

Xavi also proved it with Barca in LaLiga when he won the league and Supercopa last season. It's just Xavi's decision-making in the games, trainings, medical issues... are horrible sometimes or he likes to experiment with the lineup in an important game. Also his character is more soft and charming, Flick is more blunt, hard... and i think that is what the Barca squad needs especially with physically 💪.
Also RDZ proved it with Brighton not really a team at high level, he does good things with Brighton but Brighton is first not high elite level and Brighton is not Barca one loss against a top team or UCL game and you are going to get bombarded by the media/fans.
Flick or Nagelsmann have this experience more in top elite football level coaching Bayern and the Germany team.

Let me ask this, couldn’t Flick’s model work with proper training? For years we have heard that Barca does not train hard enough. Wouldn’t this affect the back line and their ability to defend counterattacks? Of all the video Barca has shared of training I have never seen them training for counters. We need to think outside of this current Barca style and how players have played this season. We cannot limit their abilities by what we have seen this year or in the past.

I think a system like his works well when the players are in the younger portion of their career, bc it requires a lot of running. Old players are more suspectable to injuries. So his approach might work well for a young squad like Barca. They could keep the ball moving forward.

Hello!! Loved your video and analysis. I love the way you put so much effort in studying and analysing different tactics of different managers. And I would like to thank you for that.
I have watched a video you posted some years ago regarding whether Marcelo Gallardo is the right man for a job in Barcelona. The squad has changed quite a lot since then and it would be very nice if you did a video of Gallardo coaching the current squad again. Tbh it is quite surprising for me to see Barca not going for Gallardo as the manager. What do you think could possibly be the reason for that? Is it inexperience in europe or not good tactically. I like to think he has quite a lot of experience in management of a club (not necessarily in Europe) and developing young talents. He's had quite a lot of success during his tenure with River Plate too. It is surprising to see no club from Europe approaching him for a managerial job and watching him go to Saudi for it.
    Thank you.

Flick can make the Barcelona squad more aggressive and physical. The Barca squad has a few to no physically aggressive players such as the ones Flick had at Bayern. Players like Goretzka and Davies are highly aggressive on the pitch. Also, the Barca team are not used to high-intensity and high-pressure types of playing. Therefore, I think that Flick will make these changes and Barcelona will be able to adapt to the new tactical settings that modern football is applying. The problem with Barcelona is its old mentality of trying to always revert back and improve the tiki-taka tactics. It is just no longer effective and the board should seek a new playing mentality such as that of Flick. Moreover, Flick has a strong personality and won't accept any type of sedentary playing. Players will be forced to put more pressure on their opponents. The only issue Flick might face is the aspect of injuries, given that Barca players are not used to physically demanding games. Their fear of getting injured due to the physical confrontations costs the team a lot. In general, I think that Flick will make the Barca team better until the board can provide him with a more suitable squad to achieve titles. According to the media news, Bayern is in the process of selling players like Kimmich, Goretzka and Davies. So, if the board can find solutions to sign a few of them, it will make it easier for Flick to establish his tactics at Barcelona.

Like you said, I think Nagelsman is so much more fitting with the current squad just because I feel he can adapt with what he has as he’s shown. Although if Flick does become manager, he’s already insisted on overhauling the fitness team among other things so he’ll bring discipline.

19/20 Bayern squad considered absolute stacked only after Flick took over. If as a Bayern fan I remember, lot of players in that squad on chopping board under kovac. Pundits question Muller and his age, there were doubts about Goretzka. The situation is kind of similar to what we are seeing now in Bayern. After Flick became coach and started winning consistently, then only the squad was considered best. I'm just pointing out our own view can change, so much about a squad and what we a player can do.

The issue with Nagelsmann is on his contract, he'll be with Germany until july, and Barca will need to plan the squad for next season earlier, he has said multiple times that he will wait until the EURO ends to decide if he continues with Germany, if that's the case, the club can't wait for him. If he wants to come the club needs to reach an agreement way before that.

I agree with you at all means and even though Flick is not fully my cup of tea, honestly I also say that Bayern got the players to a great physique state and even though his tactics are not that compatible with Barcelona's defensive lacks right now he can give the team the proper method to have a way better shape, Barça is not doing a good job here, we've seen how many times how much this team lacks of resistance and other teams, no matter if they're better or worse they take approach of that weakness and a complete match or having an extension kills our team, also constant injures, we've all seen how many injured have we had, we may forgive about gavi because an ACL doesn't have to be fault of Xavi's physical team, but almost all our wingers have been injured at the same time except Lamine (only god knows how he hasn't been injured), Pedri until now has not been consistent at all, Christensen or Martinez haven't played lots of matches because they were injured or they weren't able to play the game properly even Oriol Romeu has had physical problems, and that's really worrying considering how little this player has played, all of this makes this team fairly easy to play against, last season this exact same thing killed us in Champions, Europa league and La copa del rey against Real Madrid, no matter we were playing far better deffensively, when this team had to play more than the national league, they falled apart almost instantly

I'm glad you made a very cold approach to Hansi, made me think twice about it, because i was pretty much sure it's the best possible option. You really nailed it. What i remember and get most from Hansi Flick's Bayern was not only the enormous press and attacking style of play, but the sudden spike in quality from the same players that were there before him. It's like everyone was playing at 200%, and honestly that's my main point for Flick. I think the Barca has a great team, few speedsters for counters, great dribbles and passers for possesion base, but also players like Roque, Ferran, Raphinia who feel very comfortable with vertical play. Also i think lots of players could somehow adapt the Bayern roles.
And i also think Barca need a breath of fresh air. We've been stuck on "Barca DNA", often forgetting they are other ways to dominate and win, so bringing someone like Flick could shake up the team for better.
I still think Flick is the best option of what we could have, becasue i don't see Barca being succesfull with Xavi if he suddenly stays, Nagelsman would be the dream signing, as he could teach a lot, and is a tactician that can adapt multiple ways of play, but he's german coach for now.
De Zerbi is another good signing i could see, but then again, currently he's at Brighton

  • @noussommesparisiens6729

    Flick's solution for success is simple. It relies on the personnel;
    *Strong , powerful distance Ball-Carriers
    *Intelligent Runners off the ball
*Physicality across the field to cover large amount of spaces OOP to form a solid rest defence especially in midfield
*High Volume Shot makers and Chance creators.
The lack of any of these profiles wouldn't make his system work. This was the difference between his time at Bayern and at Germany, he had these profiles at Bayern but not at the NT.
If you want to sign him up, you either need to have these profiles already in your squad or at least have the funds to get him. If you don't, steer clear from him.

Players like pedri, gavi ,de jong , loanee fati , raphinha, ferran and even lamine needs this break. Also after xavi's departure hansi flick must be appointed as new manager in charge look as much as i like xavi it feels like hes mentally exhausted and the team needs a change in tactics and bit of change of playing style. Hansi flick is has good pressing with usage of wingers to open up the pitch now barca needs to cqrefully use their funds to buy a good central defensive midfielder and good winger .if they have money go for kvartskhelia or leao or else search for good winger whos good at roaming inside . To open up spaces . Hansi flick staffs will be much better comalred xavis i guess so thay why i think its good for barca for change in coaching staff at this stage . Msot imprtantly protect the coaching staff and players from media attacks and fans criticisms. Every project takes time to show result . The barca have good future talents just trust the process.

Difficult to say. thats true. As sample size is small for Flick. But you have to look at his second season as well where he slightly developed further (more controlled play with variety of combinations in offense) and used more different formations and tactical adjustments (even played more defensively vs Leipzig in title-decider). Flick said himself that he just returned to Pep's settings when he took over Bayern. But, overall, I think Flick should stay away from Barca as pressure is too high at this club. He needs to develop his work further in quieter place. And his stint at Germany should be taken into account more carefully as many other issues influenced Germany NT. Also Germany did play well at WC. Not perfect but chance creation was the best among all nations until 1/4 finals or semis, I think. Some results (like vs Japan) were unlucky.
