Not really IMO. He was flying pretty fast and people were sometimes reacting to that. What was really missing was the combat speed in Superman 2. If he can catch bullets than 2 Kryptonians fighting should be like in Man of steel. I don't really like that film but it got that right. I also don't think it wouldn't have been too hard to accomplish back then. Simply have them fight in only stationary shots so you can stitch multiple takes together of them zipping from point to point.
Singer should have gone for a reboot instead of continuing Reeves series. There were many awesome scenes in this movie which shows how much potential it has. Could have laid an awesome foundation for The Justice League.
In at least one comic continuity something like that happened. The Daily Planet had a janitor (can't remember the character's name) who knew Clark was Superman and he would take Clark's clothes and keep them for him when he came back. That's why nobody ever found Clark's clothes laying around
When I watched this as an 8 year old, I learned the value of selflessness and priorities. My Mom said "he knows she's out there but he knows he has to save the city first. He can't his love for her get in the way of what's right." That sticks with me to this day.

there's an error in the scene. this was originally supposed to the scene as he went up to save the plane, which explains the need to ascend to the altitude shown. that made more sense. but here right after ascending to such a high altitude, he's immediately near sea level again, which makes no sense. The transition from 0:24 to 0:25 is not continuous.
Or he just flew straight up to get a sense of which direction to go, and then once he knew, he flew low to the water again. It makes sense in either scene.

Superman returns is better than all 4 Christopher Reeve Supermans combined, but Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman
I think that Superman and Superman 2 are still better than Returns but Returns are better than 3 & 4
