Who would've thought that the two most influential characters in the story were A CAT AND A DOG?! Now, I'm a pretty genre savvy person, and I predicted some things in this game, but *THAT.* There was no way I could've seen *THAT* coming.
definitely one of the most legendary plot twists
@@theJohnOTD More like this game is the the ultimate true master of Plot twists!!! I mean seriously! The idea that the first truth of disappearing was the lie that started us in this very path to begin with!
P.s. Yeah i just finished the game and it was definitely one of the best short experiences i have ever had in my life.
Shu Takumi loves doing things like these! Just look at AA1~3 (he wasn't respoinsible for AA4)
When I noticed cat I joked to myself that player is ghost of cat... And then game showed that it's actual truth.
That explains why it's called "Ghost Trick" at any rate...
"Sit." "Paw." "Play dead." These are called "dog tricks".
The one who teaches you how to do "ghost tricks" is... A dog. Well, the ghost of a dog, but it still counts.
So Jowd gets to relive the decade he spent in jail this time with the wife he never thought he'd see again. Yomiel, instead of spending ten years in an agonizing limbo, spends them in jail where his now-living fiancée visits him. And Yomiel's old fate becomes yours, but you enjoy every second of your immortality because you're surrounded by friends. It's all so... touching...

@@diamondisland2023 huh. Yeah, I guess that's right. The fragment is stated to have "shot through" Jowd's leg, and it ended up embedded in Sissel, so... that must be it.
@@diamondisland2023 Well the cat was beside Jowd's leg when the meteorite crashed, so I guess it makes sense.
The saddest thing about this chapter, is that Yomiel's Fiancée killed herself just to be with him.
But now they can be together
And then Yomiel got tricks and haunted the world.
And he never saw her again.
TOGETHER FOREVERRRRR

Godamn, Alt!Missile is the most loyal thing to ever exist! I've never seen such dedication from anything in any book, movie, or in reality! Sitting through 10 damn years of agonizing mental pain just to save his owner.
Basically, 20 years. If you count the first years in the first alternate timeline, and then another 10 years more because Sissel from the 2nd alternate line refused to help and Missile had tho go back another 10 years just for make the 12 hours limit time excuse for this timeline's Sissel.
But yeah, that's the most loyal puppy in this life.
Truly a good doggo.
@@fafsdasdsa while I agree he is the most loyal pup, it's only 10 years not 20. Alt Missile gets killed in the apartment by the two intruders and gets his powers but cannot stop them. He overhears them talking about Lynne dead at the junkyard and goes there. He runs into Sissel manipulating objects and asks for his help which was declined since Sissel wants to find out about herself. Sissel leaves and Alt Missile follows Yomiel to the submarine and then when Yomiel finally dies on the sub, Alt Missile goes back in time 10 years ago and waits for the events of tonight to play out. He changes to the lamp and calls himself Ray. He tricks Sissel by telling her she will cease to exist by sunrise and she needs to learn her ghost tricks to save Lynne to learn about herself. This works and the events of the game play out. By the time Sissel goes back 10 years in the final chapter, she creates a new future and Alt Missile(ray) doesn't exist anymore (he was never killed by the intruders). Sissel and Missile never die in this new timeline and they have thier memories (along with yomiel and jowd). They live out their lives as normal pets but Sissel still has her powers as shown by one of the final scenes. It's assumed the meteorite hit her after it pierced Jowds leg.
Excellent story. I loved it.
@@SkimI3oarder1 she? Wait sissel is a female cat?
@@thatitalianlameguy2235 I think so. Yomiel names the cat after his deceased fiancé. I don't think there any anything that hints Sissel may be a male. What do you think?
An interesting character development, once you think of it. Alt.Missile said that in his timeline alt.Sissel didn't bother saving anyone because he was only interested in regaining his own memory (and failed because of this selfish way of thinking). In alpha-timeline Sissel started saving everyone for the same reason, but bit by bit he learned the stories of these people, became attached to them and continued helping even knowing it won't bring his memory or his life back. It was simply the right thing to do - to try to save everyone including Yomiel, the catalyst of all this mess, thus putting them before himself and probably sacrificing himself (there was no way for Sissel to know that he's saving his own life too without knowing his true form).
While Missile (both of them) was a hero from the start, Sissel became one during this one-night/ten years journey. God I love this cat dude so much.
I agree! I find the idea that Sissel was flawed but kept on improving towards being a hero much more engaging and inspiring than if he were already selfless.
"I can't even rewind time, let alone change the fate of a death. If I could do those things... I would've saved your life."

Maybe the reason this game doesn't have a sequel is because it doesn't need one. Everything wraps up pretty well. I give the plot a 9 out of 10.
@@nanioski3894 It could be either a 9 or a 10.
Agreed, honestly, all I'd want is an extended campaign or some game that can bring back the same primary element. The story is a closed ecosystem that wouldn't make sense being continued other than maybe universe A or some short comics that detail universe B's Sissel and his life as an immortal cat.
@@bigwoke686 I agree that the plot doesn't need a sequel but a new story with similar game mechanics set int the same universe would be wonderful
@@mystrenula3911 yh that could work

I just beat this again, for the second time in a while. Knowing the ending, it's funny how much stuff makes WAY more sense replaying. It makes sense that you can't read, and you have no idea what any of these "people things" are (kidnapping, execution, etc...). Man, this is one of my favorite games ever =D
I just replayed it and noticed one line where I believe Jowd says Sissel is as sneaky as a cat. It’s funny all the foreshadowing they put in the game
@@zanesproductions3937Even when Sissel thinks the red coat man gotta be him "You don't see any other corpses here do you"
The Alternate Missile's story is so sad.
It’s so sad, yet somehow in a happy way. It was so sad about his story, but what made the sad story “happy” was that he finally got to saw what he pursued for. His life-long dream of the fates of his owners.
@@tiantian329 though one thing confused me at first...
He said the first time he talked to Sissel, he refused his help, went away, and lost himself
Considering Alt Missile has similar powers to Sissel, did he go back in time again to make sure Sissel was willing to accept his aid?
It seems that alt Missile, or Ray, only performed a single 10 year jump to the past. He simply had a long time to plan and remembered that on the night of his death, back in his present, there was someone who didn't know who they were who had the power to manipulate small objects and jump across telephone lines. Originally they refused to help. But as Missile's powers changed he came to the conclusion that he could convince Sissel to investigate things; spicing up the deal by tempting him with the prospect of reclaiming their identity.
@@murpheus7464 Not quite right, I believe that Missle didn't know about Sissel until after the jump to 10 years into the past and when he arrive at the Junkyard, he saw Sissel who refused to help. after that, he rewind 4 minutes before Lynne's death and convince Sissel to help.
@@PaulNgoXIII missile met sissel the night yomiel killed him, got to the junkyard and met sissel Who refused to help, jumped 10 years back, waited 10 years and re met sissel with the right motives to convince him
Also, this is Lynne's reaction:
*sees a man under a giant hunk of concrete*
"Mister is your knee okay?????"
AND
Jowd: "Can you go call the police?"
Lynne: "Okay!"
Lynne: "Mister, I found this cat! I know there's a man stuck under a huge rock, but this cat, mister!"
To be fair Yomiel did point a gun at her. Can't blame her for not caring what happens to him.
But she didn't even see his face
That's just how small children are.
In retrospect, it does generate a chuckle
They shot Kamila because she was just there. How awful. At least Tengo opted to tie her up when he was by herself. I guess when Yomiel was there more drastic measures were required.
Let's just appreciate the team for going all the way to create Kamila's mom for that one scene.
I'm sorry, but that plot twist.. man, that is the BEST PLOT TWIST IN ANY GAME! I mean they honest did it perfectly. They showed the player Sissel's true form without giving away too much information and it was stupid enough to be memorable. I loved it 10/10!

This game would lose half it's substance if it wasn't as "wordy".
Ok so this whole time you were playing the soul of the cat? Or the soul of that blonde guy got transferred to the cat? Ok confused.
SPOILERS AHEAD
@uberkewl19
Sissel's true form is the black cat. When Yomiel (the red-suited man) was shot by Lynne, Yomiel took over Sissel's dead body and left to frame Lynne for his murder. When Sissel himself "woke up" as a ghost, he mistakenly thought he was Yomiel because he couldn't see his own dead cat body anywhere, and didn't remember anything about what happened.
When Yomiel was killed by the meteorite in the original timeline, he had lost his memory too, and transferred his soul into Sissel's kitten body until he remembered what happened. Then Yomiel left the cat, then found his way back to his original body (the red suited man). He later adopted Sissel and named him after his fiancee'.
Hope this helps. :)
Fuck ign, the story was a HUGE part of what made the game for me...it’s sooo damn well written
Okay, the main character being a cat wasn't something I expected, but the game did faintly hint at it numerous times through exceptional story-telling.
It really is especially the parts where Sissel comments how he actually enjoys putting mice through torture
Yomiel truly is a fighter... After being pierced in the back by one of the lamppost's spikes and having his legs smashed by Mino, he still managed to survive.

Best DS game ever. From gameplay mechanics to story and music, absolutely flawless. :)
But have you played Hotel Dusk? That gets my top DS honors...
Dan Krolikowski that's a pretty good one too. I am a sucker for that type of stories, and graphic adventures in general, so I would definitely rank it as one of the best the DS has to offer too.
I first found this in 2012 on mobile on the apple app store. But it was only a demo for the first two chapters. But I loved that much but was unable to buy the rest of the chapters. I then forgot about it for years, then remembered again more recently, played the demo again but wasn't satisfied, wanted the rest, then searched and found out it was actually a DS game. This brung me joy as I have a DS with an R4 cartridge and loaded it onto there and just played through the entire game fully this time and was so engrossed in it. I've never been this into a story of a game. I am normally just for the gameplay but this time, I wanted the story, but sidnt spoil it for myself watching these videos first. I just used these for guidance on certain parts loved this game.

Clever since this game is about the fact that you have to go BACKWARDS in time in order to change FATE around. The names are 'fate' changed around backwards. I love this.
@@elias7531 lmao
Yomiel's name comes from the Japanese word for 'revive', 'yomigaeru'
I just realized. The fragment shot through Jowd's leg, but there was a bush right behind his leg that Sissel got in. Not to mention Sissel is "Unconscious" afterwards. There's also the fact that the same aura appears on Sissel and the body is blue in the ghost world. I think Sissel died from the meteorite and got the power to manipulate his own body like yomiel did.
Yeah I'm pretty sure Sissel did die in the park + has the shard inside of him and the in the ending scene; someone (can't remember which character) comments that Sissel is still the same size + have the same appearance despite many years passing.

Yknow'...doesn't this ending kind of... suck for Sissel (the cat)?
I mean, they made it pretty obvious that Sissel doesn't age anymore (they make that VERY clear in the end cutscene), which would mean that he's in a situation basically identical to Yomiel right?
Sissel gets to watch everyone he's ever loved and cared about age and die before him. What a happy ending though.
+Aukerai It's good and bad. He can watch them have a full life. And, I'm sure if they ever have kids, he'll be with them too. Although once he's like 30, people will start being a little weirded out that the cat is still alive, haha.
i'm pretty sure he'd love to avoid that situation as to not make anybody trapped
I know this is old but couldn't they take the fragment out of him so he will then be able to go back and save his life?
TheSpeedymouse but that would ruin the entire timeline again, also remember he doesn’t has the help of the others anymore, so it would be very difficult to do it.
Though if everyone dies within close proximity to Sissel they should be able to enter the ghost world and gain the special powers like how Sissel did at the start of the game when killed within close proximity to Yomiel, and likewise still be with him.
Man, I still tear up now, but I remember the first time I beat this I was baaawling! I didn't know what to do I was so happy everything ended well but so sad it was over and all these feelings and people around me were so confused too XD

I always tear up at Missile's declaration of "I won't let that happen!" Litle guy comes in clutch so many times he'sa real hero!
Black cats are the best. This is established fact. Black cats are the most affectionate of any kind of cat for reasons nobody can really pinpoint, and once they decide they like you, they don't fuck around. Loyalty and love don't even begin to cover it. I've got a black cat and he's been with us for more than a decade. He loves me to death and somewhat tolerates most everyone else. Just... I'm really happy with the final character design.
日向創 Missil is the MVP of the story too!
WHAT A TWIST!
Okay, I will admit, I did start to get a feeling Sissle was who he was after seeing something from the earlier chapters. A bit like how I worked out who the murderer was in one of the Phoenix Wright cases before I had finished it.
Still, really interesting story... kind wished I hadn't spoiled it for myself now! >-

This game makes me cry. (;~;) I just love it so much...
And I have all the feels for Yomiel......
I just realized something, when the security guard said: "The young lady who always comes to visit you is waiting outside." I think the woman is Sissel, Yomiel's fiancée! MIND BLOWN! XD
But didn't she die the same day in the other timeline that Yomiel died?
+Daniel Lopez You could be right, but I think it might be my opinion or a theory. I'm not sure.
+Angel Edbrum no you're right, in the other timeline she committed suicide as she believed Yomiel was dead and wanted to join him in the afterlife, hence the note "I'm coming to join you, Yomiel". In this new timeline Yomiel went to prison but was still alive and had his memories and so his fiancee was likely aware that he was alive (due to news stories, or him calling her, it really is up to you to decide) and so she was waited for his release.
That is very predicteble, even an elementary school know that
Daniel Lopez but that was the Yomiel dies timelines. She died because she wanted to be with Yomiel. In this timeline, she wouldn’t have to die.
OMG why am I crying so much?
I was gonna make my own Ghost Trick Fan Game...
*But No Matter what I do, I don’t think I can even come close to topping The ending of this.*
Everytime I watch this part I can't help but feel pain in my soul as I see the part where sissel realized who he is.
I cried a lot while doing that part back at the time when the game came out....
I've already played through this, but this was still so touching! I think it's the combination of Sissel and Yomiel's sadness, Missile's loyalty and Yomiel's fiance killing herself/waiting 10 years for him. This game turned me into a crying wreck at least 3 times, which is probably a sign of excellent writing. Seriously, this is flawless!
I did not expect him being a cat O-o.
Sissel and Missile are, without a single doubt, my two favorite characters from this game! I loved watching this whole thing!
Great, now I'm in a glass case of emotion...
Quite possibly the best video game ending of all time. So many twists that all come together to create a satisfying conclusion for every single character- even the villain, who wins his redemption in the end and finally gets to be happy. It's simply perfect.
Cried like a baby. No regrets!
Most unexpected plot twist ever!
I adore how quick and yet impactful this last chapter is gameplay wise. Cause you start at like around the last 20 seconds of Yomiel's life proper, you don't get much time to do everything, but you still have enough time. And then saving Lynne one last time on top of that as the final actions of the entire game (in terms of gameplay) with Sissel, Missle, and Yomiel all teaming up was so good.
The ending was really great. When Lynne holds Sissel and say "And so we meet again Sissel" gave me shivers the first time i saw it.
Tho' I have to be honest I... Figured out Sissel was the cat when the whole "manipulator" chapter played. The only thing it didn't make sense to me was that in the beginning RAY/Missile was possessing the desklamp, but still he didn't have a soul on the core.
That was a major bummer to me 'cause i couldn't explain some of the things eventually happened. GREAT GAME

Hey man, thanks for making this series of guides, definitely helped out in completing this pretty great yet niche game.

we got to have a ghost trick anime;)
It's stories like these that always makes me wonder about crossovers. I guess it's because of the variety of personalities and societies that meet each other. It just gives me that hope that life really is a huge variety.
And I love it.
Imagine being a police detective with a wound on your leg struggling to save a young girl from being crushed but suddenly the criminal who you thought was dead somehow manages to risk their life just to save the girl they originally took hostage from you
If I'm not mistaken, if you recall, when they found Sissel in this new timeline he was unconsious. And the meteor piece was knocked off course and scratched the detective in the knee, but where did it eventually land?
Now Sissel is experiencing what Yomiel was, what with being both alive and dead, inside a shell. However, he is a cat, and he didn't leave anything behind. In fact, he enjoys being 'immortal', getting to live long enough to see the lives he saved.
This is simply one of the game that give you such satisfaction and heart warming feeling.

This made me cry. I really, really loved it. Kind of funny that you're playing as a cat throughout the whole game without knowing it though. xD
Gods, I had to revisit this game all these years later, and that ending still makes me cry. Its just such a perfect ending. Its so rare, and hard, to write an ending so logically succinct. Every ability was used to its fullest, time shenanigannery tied into a neat little bow, and all to give a satisfying ending to everyone's story.
I think I've never been so sad when a game I was playing came to an end. I... I don't really know... maybe it was because in this case there was a damned closed ending.
I really loved this game. And, I really loved this ending, even though I was like 'What the f*ck is going on?!' when I discovered Sissel's true form.
And I almost cried when, at the end, Yomiel said: "Thank you, Sissel." Aw, he does have such a caring girlfriend~~~
couldn't....yomiel manipulate lynn who was unconscious? Would've spared them both some problems, although it probably wouldn't have proven how much he's changed as a character
Lynne wasn't unconscious. Remember that the gun shot only hit Yomiel, and Lynne was just dropped. Nothing happened to her to knock her unconscious. (Besides the headphone bit, but I don't think that knocked her out rather than startled her)
@@randomnom Even if she was concious, he would have been able to control her. Remember he had a fully concious adult Lynne shoot himself.
@@ninjakidkat12 Not really. As Missile explains, ghost tricks can change over time. Yomiel literally just died here, so he wouldn't be able to do much besides controlling the unconscious. It's been a long while since I've played Ghost Trick so I don't remember the exact details of the beginning scene, but if Lynne was conscious while being controlled then it's more likely that Yomiel had developed that power since that takes place years after this.
@@randomnom I don't think that's what they meant. They probably meant "The older the ghost, the better their powers" rather than "The more time has passed since their death, the more power they have".
Very true. However, I think in that split second, Yomiel was a bit hesitant to control Lynne. Remember he said that Lynne was the first person he couldn't control all the way. Even if that was only as an adult, the fact that young Lynne would have the same effect ton him was too great a risk. That plus character archs and all.
I used to be a detector like you, until i took a meteorite to the knee

This game was just beautiful. Missile is my favorite character. Also, when I discovered who Ray is, I had even MORE reason to love him.
I just figured this out, before the credits they showed Sissel in the Ghost World. At first I thought it was for humor purposes, then i watched this two more times, and saw it again, then though of the part when Lynne (10 years in the past) picked up the kitten, and Detective Jowd said it was unconscious. Knowing this, the Temsik meteorite went through his leg, and, with the word "through" in mind, it hit Sissel, he still got his ghost powers, but they were different, (continued)
the guy that lead me here said is true, this game is pretty underrated.
What a fantastic title. The MUSIC in this game is so good too.
I've seen some intense shit in my life but this is one of the most intense scenes i've ever seen.
I shat bricks throughout all the chapter.
Thank you for uploading a play through of this game. I hate I missed it back when it was new. I guess I was too busy screaming "Objection!" into my DS to notice it.
I decided to see what Ghost Trick is all about, since it was also directed by Shu Takumi, and... I did hear this game could be described as "a mountain of plot twists" but I wasn't expecting this, it's so bittersweet. However, I really appreciate this beautiful yet odd game. (I just couldn't keep my tears in!) And I had a lot of fun comparing the events to the UR-1 incident from Dual Destinies, just for the fun of it. Haha!
this is to date the only ending in movies and videogames that managed to make me cry such a heartwarming ending
Thank you Shu Takumi, for the best games ever!!! I never felt so much emotion playing any other games!!!
HD PORT COMING IN SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol, that policeman (forgot his name) has the same clothes detective gumshoe uses!
I want to see comics about sissel being le poggers in his true form.
