I agree. I love misery as much as the next person, but I feel like Misery often gets more attention and appreciation in a way that overshadows performances like this one
This scene should be legendary: it started off so heartbreaking and yet it somehow managed to end on perhaps one of the most hilarious scene-enders of all time. ROFL XD
Watching kathy Bates act is like watching a master class of her craft. She had just won an oscar when she filmed this ... she was on fire. One of the greatest living working actresses around
I've seen this movie a bazillion times and I still cry watching this scene. Kathy's performance as Evelyn being so heartbroken is so good that my heart breaks each time. I'm crying now just watching this scene. 🥺😢
when Cathy bates character said "she's my friend i love her" thats when it got deep and really sad this shows you how amazing actors play their parts in movies
Fun Fact: When she and Sam moved from New York to L.A, it was not because of Sam's career but hers. She had landed a role on a short-lived sitcom created by Chuck Lorre. With Sam's career slowly taking off by that time, they just decided to stay west.
I've always been amazed by Bates' talent in this scene. Happy as she walks in, then shock, then devastation, then confusion, then delight, then alarm........incredible.
this scene made me tear up when i seen it the first time. kathy bates played the whole movie great and awesome. this was the best scene. i'm sure we all thought of a loved one passing away in a nursing home and this being the end of that life with the cna pulling the rose pictures off the wall and our reactions. the whole movie pulled everyone in to feel the situations. we've all known folks like the characters in this movie, especially those of us from small towns in the US deep south.
I think Kathy Bates should have been nominated for the Oscar instead of Jessica Tandy. Even though Tandy did do a good job, Bates put more of an emotional feel to her character.
@@kd17Burger I think depending on how you view the film, some could argue Bates' role was supporting. But I understand, it's one of those films where there are many important characters.
I hadn't watched this movie in like.. what? 20 years? I forgot what happened. So I decided to watch it and this scene had my heart sinking and tears running down my face. And then decided to get me at the end lol
The nurse should've stepped out and went to the bathroom or something until Kathy Bates left. It was wrong to keep pulling the pictures down with Bates still in the room. Have some respect.
I'm not making excuses for her, because there *is* no excuse for treating people like that. But nursing home staff members are so overworked and under paid that often get burned out. Most of aren't innately uncaring or they would have chosen another profession.
This is not a sad scene LOL this is one of the funniest scenes in the whole movie 😂😂😂😂 I mean not that I'm glad Mrs. Otis is dead or anything LMAO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Some people have so common sense whatsoever. I know it's just a movie but that lady ripping the flowers off the wall has no empathy or compassion at all. Just pisses me off. Lol.
This tear jerking scene did NOT happen in the book. In the book Mrs. Threadgoode DOES die. Evelyn is on a vacation with some other women when she gets word that Mrs. Threadgoode.passed away. She later goes to visit Mrs. Threadgoode's grave and sees where the cafe used to be and the old Threadgoode house. What happened in the novel was much more meaningful and sad than what happens in the movie. The movie was unfaithful to the book in a lot of ways.
Kathy Bates is bloody magnificent in that scene...she rocks
Kathy gets all the hype for the hobbling scene in Misery, but for me this is the best Kathy Bates movie moment of all time.
this and just every scene in Dolores Claiborne
+Steff R. and let's not forget AHS "Quiet or I'll open your mouth and stuff more shit in there!"
is that the scene where she breaks the guy's legs?
@@mariahwhitneycelinejanetmadona Yes.

You just get this image of spunky Ninny bobbing along in that yellow taxi cab. 😆 🚕
Everyone in this movie should have won award's great performances

Kathy Bates deserve an Academy Award for this.
She was nominated for one.
Not for that one. Jessica Tandy was. Which is a robbery, because both of them deserved lead and supporting awards.
Fried green tomatoes!! Kathy bates has all the ❤️ I need!!!!
Kathy Bates is my favourite actor or actress. I love her so much and this scene, this film, justifies why.
when Cathy bates character said "she's my friend i love her" thats when it got deep and really sad this shows you how amazing actors play their parts in movies
Still gets me.
Kathy Bates might be the most likeable person on earth
Fun fact! The nurse is played by Broadway star Latanya Richardson Jackson!! Samuel L Jackson’s Wife!

only 3 movies have ever made me cry in my entire life. this scene made me cry harder than i ever have before
what were the other 2?
this scene made me tear up when i seen it the first time. kathy bates played the whole movie great and awesome. this was the best scene. i'm sure we all thought of a loved one passing away in a nursing home and this being the end of that life with the cna pulling the rose pictures off the wall and our reactions. the whole movie pulled everyone in to feel the situations. we've all known folks like the characters in this movie, especially those of us from small towns in the US deep south.
The removal of the wall pictures hit the feels
My Nana loved this movie.
Kathy Bates is a phenomenal actress ❤
kathy bates looks so gorgeous her... perfect acting!

Ms. Tandy was nominated for Supporting Actress, Mrs. Bates was the lead

i was feeling the same thing as kathy bates right here crying and all till she found out.
this scene breaks my heart every time I watch it and i have seen the movie too many times to count
Kathy Bates IDOL 👏 👏 👏
I hadn't watched this movie in like.. what? 20 years? I forgot what happened. So I decided to watch it and this scene had my heart sinking and tears running down my face. And then decided to get me at the end lol
Love you Kathy bates!!
Fantastic movie, one of my favourites
"Mrs. Otis died! Mrs. Otis, not that I'm happy that she died..." 😅🤣
I just started sobbing...
After being there personally,
Tears your soul in half.
It does...it does. I couldn't breathe when I watched it because it hit so close to home.
I love how she says
No, she left in the yellow cab half an hour ago
A scene that goes from heartbreakingly sad to side-splitting laughing happy.
Nothing was sadder than buddy or ruth's death. Especially Buddy
A heart can be broken, but it still beats just the same.
I knew the funny moment at the end of the scene was coming, and it was still funny, but I still felt the sad moment at the beginning.
Brilliant acting.
The book has a different ending.
How i felt when one of my residents died. I miss you ian xo
"Mrs OTIS is dead??? *starts laughing and jumping around* "MRS OTIS IS DEAD, MRS OTIS IS DEAD!!!!.....not that I'm happy Mrs Otis died" ahaahhaha
She thought her friend had died instead she left the nursing home.
The nurse should've stepped out and went to the bathroom or something until Kathy Bates left. It was wrong to keep pulling the pictures down with Bates still in the room. Have some respect.
J Bro especially the way the nurse told her it was so insensitive
I'm not making excuses for her, because there *is* no excuse for treating people like that. But nursing home staff members are so overworked and under paid that often get burned out. Most of aren't innately uncaring or they would have chosen another profession.
The writing for this scene might be one of the biggest trolls ever put to film.
A lot of people stop here and don't watch it to the very end that's a shame
The big nurse was So crazy- Who talks to someone like this?
Was this Kathy Bates' first film?
She thought the old lady died which she didn't.
FYI--Fans of Kathy Bates: She's starting a new TV series this month 10/2024, playing a lawyer again.
This is not a sad scene LOL this is one of the funniest scenes in the whole movie 😂😂😂😂 I mean not that I'm glad Mrs. Otis is dead or anything LMAO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I did a jig because Mrs. Otis was dead, and then immediately I was worried about my mama who realized her house was gone
very well scripted and acted. had me crying lol
😥😥😥This is a sad and a funny part
powerful
befor i saw the rest of this movie and i thought she did die i cried
In the book they are different people but in the movie they are the same person
@sujags06 No, she was just so relieved that Mrs Threadgood was alive that she kinda forgot herself. XD
That nurse needs to learn compassion.
The black nurse Denzel Washington wife:)(" that's messed up how she laughed at ms otis death lol
That's Samuel L Jackson's wife not Denzel Washington's
i never notice Samuel L. Jackson wife in this movie
Some people have so common sense whatsoever. I know it's just a movie but that lady ripping the flowers off the wall has no empathy or compassion at all. Just pisses me off. Lol.
graemii me too
😭😭😭
My fav part is When that lady says who Funny Its funny she sounds Country
He thinks he gets to s peak
no she says, "Im glad Mrs Otis died.." kittlol9
