    It is a good informative video. Also made me realize what I was truly getting into. But so tired of being chained to food for 30-40 years that I’m ready to change. One day at a time.

    This has been SUPER informative, it's crazy to think how ill informed we are of this procedure. Everyone thinks it's so easy and you get it done and you're back to normal and losing weight without changing anything. Boy are we wrong! Thank you!

    I had Gastric Bypass on 10/16/19, and so far I have lost 35lbs. My original BMI and weight was 35bmi and starting weight 252lbs at 5 foot 9 inches.
    I am forever grateful for this wonderful tool. The only problem I slightly have is that you can get dehydrated fast if you forget to have a beverage with you at all times. I take vitamin supplements and patches everyday, and I am getting better energy . I am in the soft food phase and I'm about to be completely released to normal food diet. I stopped craving junk around 2 weeks post op

    Being with BMI going between 39 and 42.9 and being I'm a bicycle commuter, don't own a car, and at times will go 25 miles at a more than leisure pace and in all seasons I wonder how I'll drink a tablespoon at a time, but I suppose it means wearing one of those "camel back" type of water bags with a tube I drink from. After 25 miles I drink a lot of water. I'm a vegetarian now for 32 years. Will that be difficult to maintain? Do I have to eat meat? I also plan to travel the world in many countries, but not like I'm on vacation. I just should take it as it comes and realize having surgery is going to give me a better quality of life for the rest of my years now I'm 68. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks for a nice video!

  • @sin46ned
    @sin46ned 5 лет назад +11

    Not supposed to eat cereal. Fat is ok you need it for energy. Need to build up to 60 grams of protein a day. I had to drink protein drinks to accomplish this. All that sugar free stuff have a lot of carbs. Take all your required supplements and vitamins, but buy bariatric supplements and vitamins, use a spray B12. If eating a salad, don't use iceberg lettuce as it is mostly sugars as are fruit and juices. I am 20 years out...i can eat 1/2 of a hamburger but I eat it in a high protein wrap. Most of this information is correct. I do not eat many carbs, or sugared items as well as no fruit juices. I attribute that to not consuming very many carbs. I do have a piece of dark chocolate now and then as well as a small portion of fruit with no added sugar. The number one treat I have is occassionally have is some pasta with meat sauce no more than 4 Tablespoons i also use a high protein pasta. It requires a lot of will power, but if I hadn't had the surgery I might be dead now or very, very sick. The biggest thing I will tell you is do not snack between meals. People who do this begin to gain weight. You must be psychologically ready for the major changes that the RNY surgery will accomplish for you if you follow the pouch rules. Your pouch is your too and to getting the weight off and keeping it off. I have never regretted having this surgery.

    I am not overweight,but my stomach is over stretched to the point I no longer feel food. I have no hunger,satiety nor fullness and can literally eat a limitless quantity of food,were I to permit myself.
    It is making my life hell. Would a slim person ever be able to get bariatric surgery? I just want to be normal again. With a normal stomach capacity (my stomach was small and I was a light eater)
    This issue is derailing my life in an indescribable way Noone gets it,do they?

    • @SuperiorRobyn
      @SuperiorRobyn 4 года назад +1

      Eat more meat and raw liver. Your body will be satiated because these are the most nutrient dense foods. Limit carbs and sugar which cause cravings. Your stomach doesn't have to be filled to it's fullest to feel satiated. You just have to meet your nutrient needs. Also to some degree, I think your stomachs can shrink up. There is nothing wrong with your stomach. Don't mutilate yourself.

    • @mleonard3163
      @mleonard3163 3 года назад

      If you're not getting the satiety signals your hormones are messed up. Dietary changes leaning towards higher fat (grass fed animals fats ideally) are going to help get your hormones back in check.

    I'm going to be that guy:
    Willpower is more important than surgery.
    I worked in a hospital, the lengths people will go to in order to "cheat" the system is ludicrous.
    One patient got a gastric bypass, and then got a friend to bring in a blender to her room after her surgery where she blended mars bars because apparently it was "Fine, because I've had the surgery."
    She apparently thought that the surgery meant her body could only "hold"/digest a certain amount of calories per day and so she didn't have to worry about her diet.
    Not saying you'll be like that, but the change comes from the mind first and last. If you rely on the surgery to bring you out of the hole you dug yourself into, you'll forever be in an ever-deepening hole.

    • @mistymountainhop1971

      Some will say it's not the easy way out, but in a way it is, I lost weight naturally, yes the 1st week after going to the gym and eating healthier I lost 15 lbs, mostly water weight. But then reality kicked in and I fought for every lb lost. Whereas someone who had their stomach reduced down significantly and can only take so many calories in, has an advantage over me. When I see women who've lost 100 lbs in 8 months and celebrating it versus me, who took 2 5 yrs to lose 200+ lbs with no surgery or medicine...it was a slower loss. I know it's not a competition or race. But nonetheless, one can't help to feel in a sense they did cheat to lose the weight.

    Really disappointed you are encouraging patients to eat sugar free and low fat foods. This means it will have harmful additives! Teach them to eat Whole Foods, teach them about healthy oils and fake sugars and GMO foods and what that means. Teach them how to feed their body complete, whole food!

    • @mleonard3163
      @mleonard3163 3 года назад +2

      I totally agree they should be teaching people to eat whole foods not all this processed junk that's ultimately the cause of the weight gain in the first place. There are very few healthy oils though. Cold pressed olive, avocado, and coconut oils are good for youth but olive and avocado shouldn't be heated past barely warm. For anything cooked you need coconut oil or fats from grass fed animals.

    They are showing improper calcium supplements however in this video. They show a cupboard containing caltrate, and viactiv calcium chews. Those are NOT appropriate for bariatric patients. They are calcium carbonate and calcium carbonate is not reccomended for bariatric patients. Calcium carbonate requires stomach acid to assimilate and bariatric patients have much less of it. They need calcium CITRATE supplements.

    I found this ridiculous as remove the operation part, if you do what they say, you will become ultra slim. So why operate if you can never again live normally. Who has time to exercise 30-45 minutes per day? If you do, then you can mostly eat what you like...

      Remember Nettie, I am sure it intended to mean "baby food formula consistency". It is very simple to puree any food (as done in aged care facilities...and for babies) and thus one has the consistency required. Please consider the quality of life that is expected from the surgery and compare that to the present life quality being experienced. Are you happy with life (body / body image) now? Can surgery make improvements? Either way Nettie, always smile dear and keep the others wondering.

      Gastric sleeve and bypass are teo different procedures. Your doctor will determine which is best for you depending on your weight/health. I had a gastric sleeve and it's the best decision I've made. Actually, many people are redoing their surgery from bypass to gastric as it is more effective.

      @@SuperiorRobyn I was thinking this also… like if I just eat what they’re saying and imagine the surgery has been done I could convince myself I can only eat smaller portions.. a friend of mine all most died after this surgery and now she suffers with anemia permanently and has to have transfusions. I know it seems like a quick fix and it limits the intake but you could drink your calories and get fat or fail to lose weight. It’s about making sure you are eating health and getting exercise in. Nothing is without its risks unfortunately and there will be health problems either side of the operating table. If you don’t change your eating habits and activity levels you can guarantee you will suffer and live a poor quality of life.
