"Frisco Kid" is anther awesome perody.. Sarring Gene Wilder and Harrisn Ford. Wilder is a Polish Rabbi that needs to go East to West. Ford reluctantly helps. Mayhem from Jewish Traditions ensues.
Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights, fun parodies of the Western too. Blazing Saddles is the ultimate send-up of Westerns -- we'd do it for Randolph Scott, so many funny lines. "Aw, prairie shit, everybody."
Good video, as always. You should add 1979's 'The Villiain' to this list. You cant get much more parodical than this movie. Especially with the villain, Kirk Douglas, dressed in all black and the hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, dressed in all white.
The duo of James Garner's Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter are right at the top of my list and I love the shout out to Jack Elam who was absolutely brilliant in each movie. With that being said, I truly believe that the benchmark of that genre is Mel Brooks' classic Blazing Saddles. There's so many outstanding moments and performances from that movie that it could be watched over AND over and still be absolutely hilarious 😂😆😂. A true classic!!!!!!!!
Blazing Saddles -- parody. Maverick -- comedy. But whether you call it comedy or parody, some of the fun Westerns I also enjoy: 1. My Name is Nobody 2. Destry Rides Again 3. The Villain 4. A Big Hand for the Little Lady 5. Shanghai Noon
Nice, but what about the italo western, when the Mexican Bandits come to the Mormons to slab them, not expecting to see the Scherifs i.e. Bud Spencer and Terence Hill?
All of these movies had somethings that made them funny and a success. A good script, actors that fit their roles, a perfect blend of comedy, drama, action; and sight gaga. All stirred up in a pot and served to the public in s silver bowl. All still funnt today.
Perhaps I missed the humour in Django Unchained, but I doubt it. Not exactly a subtle film. But perhaps it is (or is meant to be) a parody. I don't know.
Actually, there was a lot of humor in the movie but humor does not make a movie a parody. I don't think it's a parody of westerns at least as it didn't take place in the west, it took place on southern plantations. There were no western characters involved, only a similar but much earlier time period. As slavery was still legal, it precedes the American West by a couple of decades.
Very extensive list. You saved the best for last (Blazing Saddles). The only other movie that comes to mind is "Skin Game" with James Garner and Lou Gossett.
The weakest film here was SON OF PALEFACE, and it was a real blast. DJANGO UNCHAINED really doesn't belong here, though it's another one of Tarantino's masterpieces. It would be more appropriate to call it a drama. I'd never heard anything about Michael J Fox getting hanged accidentally, as if that poor guy didn't have enough going on in his life. Lee Marvin, there are about a million stories about his antics, the one involving Captain Kangaroo is generally the first one you'll hear of. All the movies you've listed here are worth taking the time to watch again, especially BLAZING SADDLES. To hell with being "politically correct ".
You could also add The Villain (Cactus Jack) starring Kirk Douglas, Anne Margaret and Arnold Schwarzenegger, with Douglas character being a bit like Wily Coyote.
Hi, "Wrangler"..., The majority of these Western Genre Comedy Movies..., may me laugh, when ( WE ) need a good laugh ! ! The majority of these Western Comedy Movies..., made me laugh so much..., that I decided to watch those movies again and again, and still ( laugh ) when I think about them in my mind... Excellent video and very informative and thank you for sharing the video... "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana :)
1) I'm not sure you understand the difference between a parody and a comedy. They are different. Maverick is an example of a comedy that isn't parodying the old west, it's a comedy. 2) Just because a movie takes place in the old west doesn't mean it's a western anymore than a movie that takes place during modern times can't be a western. Back to the Future wasn't a western even though it took place in the old west (due to time travel) and used Clint Eastwood's name (real name, not a western character's name). It was a comedy that just happened to take place in the west. It could have taken place anywhere-anytime. 3) Even, in my opinion, Django wasn't a parody of the old western movies, it might be a parody of the racist characters, which sadly, still exist today. It has nothing to do with a "western" and in fact, was taking place in the south on plantations before the Civil War. It wasn't a western at all. You wouldn't consider Gone with the Wind a western. Besides these critiques, it was a nice video. Support Your Local Sherriff and especially Blazing Saddles are the epitome of western satires. Not just funny but making/having fun of the genre of western movies/characters.
They can take every copy of Django unchained and bury it in the Mojave desert so as to never show it again. It’s hard to even dignify it by mentioning it. Otherwise very entertaining video!
A parody doesn’t necessarily have to have overt comic elements; the comedy can be subtle. Example? How about “The Big Country” 1958? It manages to turn almost every western trope inside-out, and even manages to include some subtle comedy (every second or third character claiming “it’s a big country,” the eastern dude becoming aware of his city hat in the first scene, the fistfight between Peck and Heston, held at night in the middle of nowhere and, hence, proving nothing, the two conventional antagonists killing only each other, eliminating the film’s only real conflict and making the viewer wonder why they just didn’t do it at the beginning, saving the rest of the cast - and the audience - the trouble of sitting through the first 2-1/2 hours, etc.). If it’s not a parody, I don’t know what is. Anyway, good video, great list!👍🏼
If you haven't seen it, I would recommend you watch "Rustlers Rhapsody"... a parody of the singing cowboy...
Django as a parody? I don't think so. It's way too grim, and too little humor to be considered a parody. Closer to a drama.
Why wasn’t “Shakiest Gun in the West “ with Don Knotts mentioned in the video?

Well, none of these movies were COWBOYS & ALIENS, but then again, what is?
where the heck are the trinity movies, terrence hill and bud spencer were a riot, not to mention " my name is nobody"....................
Nice, but what about the italo western, when the Mexican Bandits come to the Mormons to slab them, not expecting to see the Scherifs i.e. Bud Spencer and Terence Hill?
I always like "Dirty Dingus Magee" with Frank Sinatra and George Kennedy.
Rustler's Rhapsody should replace Django
Wagons East

Hallelujah Trail?

Good list, but I would have replaced Django Unchained with Lightening Jack with Paul Hogan. A very underrated western/comedy.
The weakest film here was SON OF PALEFACE, and it was a real blast.

The rich often lack humour, hence no surprise the studio execs couldn’t laugh at Blazing Saddles.
What about the Villian? Kirk Douglas and hi horse were hysterical!
The original name of Blazing Saddles was Black Bart Rides Again.
They can take every copy of Django unchained and bury it in the Mojave desert so as to never show it again. It’s hard to even dignify it by mentioning it. Otherwise very entertaining video!
Glaring omission: “My Name is Nobody” (1973)
The Brits had "Carry on Cowboy" that parodied the genre well.
What about Trinity with Frank Sinatra
"Destry Rides Again" dude
Yes! Parodies are so much fun
Good list!
I'm also really happy that you mentioned Richard Pryor's contribution as a writer and Gene Wilder's last minute addition replacing Gig Young
