You gotta remember that Brian wrote this song and he was the only child so maybe Brian’s the son & daughter!! Might explain the lyrics! I think it’s a Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix “vibe”. Freddie can sing anything, right? Part of your journey check out Brian’s solo work DRIVEN BY YOU, RESURRECTION, BACK TO THE LIGHT. After Freddie passed there was The Brian May Band.
Freddie’s voice is sublime in this song. And you’re so right, it’s all about that bass! Deacy is so underrated, he came up with some of the most epic riffs ever. Please check out Action This Day live at Milton Keynes. The bass sneaks up on you, it’s fantastic
The guys, whichever one wrote it, especially Freddie, never explained the meanings of their songs. But they never were into asking political statements or being into any kind of movement. I have know idea what Brian was trying to say, I just love the song! Queen 👑 👨🏻🎓🎸🤠🥁 and Freddie 4ever 🤴🏻👑🎶🎤❤️💯‼️ My mysterious angel 🧖🏻♂️💋🇺🇸
Yes, "keep yourself alive" was their very first single. Live at Houston 1977 is phenomenal! "Son and Daughter" is a criminally underrated gem of genius!! Personally, I think Live at the rainbow is a phenomenal rendition and it has an epic guitar solo for Brian that slowly evolved over the years from there. ruclips.net/video/WzDGNnSSScU/видео.html For other underrated songs, please check out "My fairy king" from their first album, its a beautiful fantasy ballad, no live renditions unfortunately.
Great reaction Shashank. I have another song that BRIAN wrote that is really deep. Its called WHITE MAN. You have to do the official lyric video to see what FREDDIE is singing about. This song came from their album A DAY AT THE RACES. The live version of SON AND DAUGHTER is from the concert at the RAINBOW in 1974. Please for me do WHITE MAN and watch the lyric video. BRIAN MAY is such a great songwritter. Thank you SHASHANK. Take care my brother. Love ya. Your friend, QUEEN BEE.
I feel that Brian is part philosopher. At that time he was in major conflict with his father (who he was very close to) because he had given up academia to devote himself to the band which was in no way successful at the time. His father thought he was throwing his life away. Have always thought that this song referenced that struggle.
Great reaction! I don't want to say this again, but yes the live version is far superior. lol Son & Daughter Queen (bonus) live at the Rainbow 1974 ruclips.net/video/6feQipHx3Xg/видео.html. Since you are doing Queen's debut please check out The Great King Rat live at the Rainbow 1974 ruclips.net/video/PRfdzL2NqT0/видео.html. This song is extremely underrated! It is a great song. As to the meaning of Son & Daughter, it is a look at gender roles and expectations, I suspect it came about because Brian was an only child. Some people saw it as song against first wave feminism, which really emerged during the 60's.
I believe this was a reaction to feminism at the time - 'I want you to be a woman', although I am sure I read somewhere Brian reflecting that this was perhaps a little outdated now and reflecting on his lyrics at the time. Probably written in late 60's and recorded early 70's.
Thanks for your Queen song reaction... I really enjoy it 😍
Rainbow 1974 live version
