    Well Done Paul! Beautifully done, as always! You have a rare gift of presenting not only a river, but also a pool and your experience on it! Love your vids! As for your in-film question...We here in Eastern Canada think it is a balance of water flow and water temp that dictates where the "hot spot" will be...that is, a salmon will use whatever riverbed obstacles to its advantage in order to rest/live/re-energize for the trip ahead. It then becomes the fisherman to figure out how best to present a fly to him/her in an optimal fashion...and here is the reason that keeps me coming back for more! So far 15lbs salmon and a 4lbs grilse...back for 6 days on the "Restigouche at Larry's Gulch. Cheers, my friend, Mike.

      Ah glad you are having a good time there and getting into some silver. Well done? Hope you get a chance to get some footage. The Restigouche is on my list - might try and get there next year once we are all opened up again. Tight lines and thanks for watching!

    Lovely video of a favourite pool of mine. When Robert M was the ghillie on this beat my great friends MDK and TPA both caught 23lb plus fish from the churchyard. I lost mine but they bought me a special tie as I’m not in the Tulchan Twenty Club!

      Glad you enjoyed it. It's also one of my favorites. It's a pool I always fish with confidence. Don't always get a fish obviously - its salmon fishing after all! Stay tuned for more videos and tight lines always to you!

    I often catch fish such as coho, pink salmon and steel head at the tail out of a deep hole.
    I often imagine that after they have ran up through a set of skinny water or fast Rapids that they are looking for the first place they can rest and gather their strength, or perhaps they’re waiting to gather their school up before moving on? Where Chinook always seem to hang out in deeper water on the edge of seams just below the head of the deeper holes, or it just seems like it ? Love the video

    I have had fish here in the Uk and abroad caught a metre or so above very rough water in the fast glides of the pool tail. I believe fast heavy rough water below pool tails invigorate the salmon as it passes through and once it reaches the smoother tail it stays there regaining its senses. Of course a stopped fish like this often is an easier prospect and with the speed of the tail picking up, the swing of the fly is just too tempting.

      Yeah - I hear you. You can't see in the video but as my fly was swinging round you could see the fish were agitated, it was heart stopping stuff, I just knew at some point the would be irresistible. I had hold of other about 2 casts after letting this one go. Didn't stick unfortunately bit it kind of proved my tactics to me again. Thanks for watching and commenting - so appreciated! Tight Lines

    Magic do you use a loop to loop from the tippet to the other part of the leader?

    • @FinLineFly
      @FinLineFly  2 года назад

      Actually I do use loop-to-loop. I get a bit of a hard time for it sometimes from my fellow anglers but I find it is so quick and easy to change and I use light gauge tippet so I don't think they add much to the visibility to fish but many anglers do. What's your thoughts?

    What weight and length rod were you using to fish this beat?

    • @FinLineFly
      @FinLineFly  3 года назад +1

      Hi. This was a 13' 2" #8 rod I used here. It is a good size all round rod for fishing for salmon in Scotland. It can handle easily any fish your likely to come across, its a light and versatile option - even with the heavier sinking lines I find it is an ideal length. Tight lines - I hope this info helped.
