A short film from Fin Line & Fly. I’m back in Scotland on the wonderful River Spey fly fishing with the double Handed rod for those magnificent Atlantic Salmon.
From the picturesque Estate of Ballindalloch Castle, I have the opportunity of the first run down the Junction Pool and it does not disappoint. Join me on trip through the grounds of Ballindalloch on the way to the Junction Pool for an unforgettable encounter with a big Atlantic Salmon.
Caught on a #9 Swift Mk2 Rod from Hardy Fishing Tackle with a full floating set up, this fish pushed the boundaries of strength and resilience as it battles against the rod and river! We tame this fish after a monumental fight and get it back to its strength before releasing back to the river to continue its impressive journey upstream to spawn. What a tremendous fish!

Question ... What was that yellow material flowing beautifully back on that fly ?
Hey Frank thanks for stopping by and enjoying the video. The long yellow materials are "Boar Bristles". The original pattern has them about 50% longer but i cut them down to this length!
Thanks for the info
I have been out of the fly game for 10 yrs now
responsabilities and commitments
I was a steelhead/salmon bum for 20 yrs , then moved to Alaska and fished the salt and coastal freshwaters for 8 yrs , the last 4 years I had a charter boat
The last 12 yrs I have been in Eastern Washington State and tied up in commitments
But I am going to set up a tying bench again and work myself back into the life
Can anyone remember when these fish were considered food? How the times have changed.
There was a time when estates like this were only allowed by law to feed their workers with salmon 4 times a week because they were fed up with eating salmon from the river all the time. Changed tines indeed
@@FinLineFly Also, apprentices in London were not to be fed Salmon more than 4 times per week as part of their articles of employment. This means the fish are scarcer these days and because of that, the cost to fish for the elusive (rare) fish, has ever increased. Get dressed up, kid yourself along and catch the odd fish by the most difficult method you can determine to use. I have done it for years. But the best way, if you love to fly fish, is to find a river that everyone frowns on as useless, fish it when the conditions are just right and then catch LOTS of fish. Been there, done it. You cannot beat this feeling. But hey, I’m just a guy who has fished all his life, mainly for food and fun. Peace 🙏
Awesome video what tippet did you use?
Hi. Thanks for watching the video! Glad you enjoyed it and hope you have the time to watch Part 2! :) . Regarding Tippet. I'm a fluoro guy and I was using 10lb in these conditions. I rarely use heavier when the water is low and clear like this. Tight Lines!
Nice job, r u left handed ?
I'm right handed Michael.
Question was it man maid or natural
Hi. Thanks for stopping by. The Junction itself is natural but the retaining bank opposite the bench under tree where you park has obviously been built up. When I don't know
