Chris Harris is yesterday’s news...anyone who loves Bmw’s really knows nothing about cars except how they constantly break. A good reviewer spots a future classic when the cars new he never has.
Just want we to see one of these again. Vivid memory of having driving a friend’s on circuit, Cup centre exit exhaust, smaller alcantara 3 spoke wheel; deeply tactile and interactive raw car, just didn’t want to get out. Steering incredibly feelsome, wonderful feral engine felt bombproof
Had every RS - this 996.2 RS after the 993 RS is the best road car RS they made imho - 964RS was the best raw track car. Later 997 etc etc just too fast and unengaging I felt.
Never understand why they put a roll cage in as standard after trying to save weight.. Make it an option if you want.. Your gunna save what 50kgs if it's steel?
I had a mildly modified 996.1 GT3 CS and loved it. My dtram GT3 is a 996 GT3RS with the 4 litre engine from the 997.2 RS. Drove a few 997 GT3s and didnt like them so much especially the gear change will felt stiff and awkard.
Ive driven that car its lovely, was driving our blue livery one last week. Great cars, seem to follow changes in the road, and can feel not exactly quick. But prefer them to the stiffer harder work 997 GT3s. The 964 RS is still the best and for value a 991.1 GT3 cant be beaten. The 996 GT3 rs is more like a 1hr run out on a sunday Morning, not a daily. (ashgood)
Porche 996 gt3 rs boxer 6 2.9 L 10500 rpm 425 Hp 1120 kg & Ferrari F360 CS 9500 rpm 3.6 L V8 425 hp 1110 kg Drive rings round Wallin =Mclaren MP4 12C 450 Hk Twinturbo 3.8 L V8 1700 kg
Can’t afford one of these rare beauties? Make one like I did. A 981 Boxster or Cayman S, with headers, exhaust and tune makes about 370 hp. With a light weight exhaust and lithium battery, it weighs only 6kg more - for about 100 grand less and is mid engined and handles better!
I agree they are an awesome alternative, but there’s something visceral about this car that is pretty much impossible to replicate from anything that porsche built after the 996. I would say only a 997.2 RS/ 4.0L would come close.
Sush a nice car, just sad it isn't the fastest, definitely for todays standard and I know acceleration isn't everything but I just dont want to get spanked buy a tuned gti in that thing.
Please stop posting videos like this. 996.1 GT3s of any flavor are still outside the 25 year mark for importation to the US(I know the RS is on the show or display list but owning this car and only being able to drive 2500mi a year is somehow worse than not having one in my mind). I’d like to get one before the word gets out and they cost $1,000,000.
Not even close to the otherworldly performance on offer from the Maccan GTS, now that’s the pinnacle of Porsche. The Cayenne was superior to any 911 in driving dynamics to begin with but the Maccan has even outdone the Cayenne. All true driving enthusiasts know this, the real winner of the Porsche range are their SUVs, they can even outcompete GT3 race cars, that’s how razor sharp their handling is!
Hard disagree, but I'm open to having my mind changed. Why do you say the 997 Mk1? The only GT3RS which got close to the tactility and balance of the 996 GT3RS (imho) was the 997.2 GT3RS 4.0
@@chrismuc4023, fair enough. One man's pro is another man's con. I really enjoy how edgy the 996 GT3RS is. Where I found the 997 Mk1 GT3 RS would push a little bit (understeer) too often for my liking, though it is a great car and probably the best "first GT3" if I had to recommend one to someone who has never driven one. Still, there's something about the 996 for me--a real old school pucker factor--that puts it above the rest.
I supplied all my RSs' to Evo in 2009 -i and nearly everyone on staff said the 997 was a step back in steering feel poise and gutteral enjoyment to the 996.2 and of course 993.

where's Chris Harris?
I think hes still recovering from his leg injury
Lol I reckon

Driving his GT3 T
Reading his Top Gear banter script and rehearsing his laugh.
One thing about 996 3rs, the air louvres between those mostly hated fried eggs actually make the lights and face look great!
i dont hate how the headlights look, i think its unique, maybe because i grew up when 996 were popular
I had a 996.1 and it was amazing. Great cars I'd love to try one of these.

I’ve got a 996 Carrera 6MT. It’s a lovely car to drive. Especially those mountain passes.
This! Nice daily drivers
Aaaah the Metzger engine, how it is missed, Lovely thing.

Amazing video as always 👍, and beautiful GMT Master by the way 👌.
The analogue 996 a sleek beautiful racing design with urban grit. Totally awesome with the legendary "Mezger" power haus.
A great video indeed !
Beautiful machine, indeed!
My dream car 🚗😍😩
lovely!
Gotta talk about the CF mirrors when there isn’t much of weight saving to talk about 😂😂
He must be really small, the roof is up to his neck , mine is just above my large waist. However make no mistake these are very special cars

Fun Fact: The 996 GT3RS was faster than the 996 GT2 on Nurburgring despite being N/A vs twin turbo
Is horrible but beautiful at the same time I love it

My dad did just that..walked in an bought 1 in show room..Its white n blue though..great car..we live in northeast so not the greatest driving roads
for every blue one there are 2 red
Such a shame…. Stunning car!
Pretty sure Im not the only one here thinking…..

No way 997 gt3 rs 2
Could he drive any slower slower
Nope.
997.2 GT3 RS
It needs the center console deleted.
+ carpets
Mezger!
Wasn't this car exceptionally stiff? I think about that every time a reviewer says it is a usable daily driver.
I've got a 996.2 GT3 (bought it with the intention of dailying it), you'd' have to be crazy to daily drive it. 997+ is FAR more comfortable.
@@nostopping I used to have a Cayman S and that was too stiff for a daily.
i remember seeing it on top gear when it came out…

Those cars are not even real Porsches - more badged VW
Not sure if this comment is
