If you think about it, the 996 is an evolution of the 993, and the 997 is an update of the 996. The 6 and 7 both had two versions as well, meaning this car was around for a very, very long time. They fixed what was "wrong" about the air-cooled cars and realized they made a masterpiece. Like Nissan making the R35, how do you improve?
Loved the Foot Cam! Watching it and listening to the engine you can notice how organic and natural this car is! 991s GTs sounds great but theres something special about unpredictable singing on these Mezgers. Thanks for sharing!
That car looks DIALED in , minimal tire squeal , you’re not even pushing it and that thing is eating up that track . Nice build, I can see a aero package helping to fine tune the aero a bit . Nice run watched it 3 times in a row with a few rewinds here and there lol 😂. Pedal cam is siik, nice checkup on the brakes right before the jump , Misha you’re a true wheelman , that car looks extremely responsive and does what you’re body tells it awesome car.
You, Misha, are a really great pilot. Beautiful driving, from the video it looks like the car behaves exactly like you want and does nothing sketchy. Only what you tell it to do. Awesome to watch! These old Porsches are just as fantastic cars as the new ones, but in a different way

Amazing camera angles! Just by watching steering and pedal inputs simultaneously with the front-facing camera, you can feel the car's stability and response as if you're the one driving. Looking forward to see more of these kinds of onboards, very immersive!
I have two observations. 1) the part at 9:13 had me a little nervous, and 2) At 11:02, lifting off the brakes while in the air then getting back on the brakes as soon as you're back on the ground is top notch driving! I feel like the 996 is the the Miata of the 911's using momentum rather than brute hp like the newer GT3's & GT2's
You need to do it like that on the jump, if you have ABS and leave the foot on the paddle, it doesn't know how to regulate and you fly straight into the gravel pit. 😅
@@porschenut9 every car is going to be driven at its maximum possible speed through corners for the best lap time. I don't see how that's different for a hyper car or an mg sprite
@@mitchellsteindler it’s not about maximum cornering speed. It’s about maintaining maximum cornering speed through as much as the corner as possible. Some cars make their lap time by sacrificing corner entry to get a good exit - slow in fast out (e.g. Evo, GTR). The 996 GT3 is not one of those. It is a true momentum car.
Thanks Misha, as an owner of a 996 in black (ok mines only C4!) that hits the track occasionally I love this video! 996's have been the poor relation of the 911 family for way too long, yet with decent suspension and more modern tyres they are great track cars! (Just don't tell everyone or they'll become too expensive to enjoy!)
Misha, been a subscriber for a few years now. The way this onboard is filmed with high quality cameras and many angles is breathtaking. Specifically the dash-camera angle showing the road, I feel like I’m in the car on the ring! Top quality stuff
I had the 996 GT2, and it was an absolute MONSTER at the track, but the front end geometry needed serious work. The factory set it up to under-steer from the factory, and for serious track work it needs -3 degrees negative camber at the front, and 1/8th" toe-in. It also needs some toe-in at the rear, as well as -2.0 degrees negative camber. After getting those setting right, the car is amazing!
Keine Curbs, langsam schalten usw... That's a SEEEEND! What an awesome insight. Back when the 996 came out I could not really appreciate it, the styling was too close to the Boxster. But it has aged so well, love the car now and my god what a driving machine!
Lovely driving! That front end is so hooked up. The cup front lip definitely helps with the front end, but more so do the cup car upper bumper slots. These will help reduce front end lift. Then an RS rear wing to balance it out.
Awesome vid. I think I saw how you started out a bit cautious with the up- and downshifts. You clearly didn't want to stress the gearbox out too much. Understandable, since it's not your car in the first place. But I found it funny that towards the later parts of the lap it was obvious, that you got bitten by the bug and went more and more into 'send it'-mode.
Yes I was waiting for this after seeing the Pic these days 👌💪 Unfortunately didn‘t catch the lap at first because I was watching the footwork. I am still struggling a bit in how to take corners correctly with this machine because it behaves different to front engine cars
Nowadays driving a recent Porsche or any supercar fast is so easy with mostly automatic gearbox and driving aids. An older car with manual gearbox and real feeling is much more fun to drive, you won't be the fastest but you did it yourself. :D I see it more and more when I co-drive with people on the ring, people without great skills can drive the ring fast, completely relying on the modern technology, driving aids and automatic gearbox. The new M4 for example is such an easy and forgiving car even a donkey could drive fast in it.

Great to see you are enjoying this car and it is very necessary to give a sort of recognition/ redemption to 996 GT3 mk1 and Mk2, why? Because you got to drive them, they are absolutely lovely to drive, why is that? Simple they are at at crossroad of generations, they were totally different to 993's, entering a new era in terms of chassis and of course engine, now water cooled, 4 valves and titanium conrods, this changes everything! Also one thing to understand this GT3 unlike 997 mk1 is "narrow track"; if in terms of sexiness to look at it is eventually less nice, in terms of behaviour and driving on a track like Nordschleife it is not obvious at all to be less efficient, indeed all karting guys would understand what I mean by this... So YES YES YES, it is good to put those 996 GT3 in the light for a sort of redemption, as they were the start of something new and are absolutely amazing to drive, real manly, no assistance, very sharp with MR mods or equivalent. My only suggestion as you likely figured I knew a bit about this car;)... try a 2cm smaller steering wheel and then you will feel it even sharper.
