Everyone always forgets Bill Russell. 11 rings in 13 seasons. When the team needed a head coach after Red retired, they went with the only person they knew who could motivate Bill Russell, and that was Bill Russell. So the final 3 seasons he played and was head coach. And won 2 championships as both before retiring.
Russell did the impossible at the Defensive end and while never the force others were on the offensive side, all he did was win.
Offense gets the glory, defense wins the championships.
Ya , but there were 8 teams in 1968 and 10 teams in 1969.. So not alot of talent to defend for the Celtics at that time. SHAQ played 82 games a year against 30 other teams. So there is that. 😮
@@danielives379 Lakers still had wilt Chamberlain who Shaq put ahead of him. Celtics beat those Lakers 6 times. Russell won 57 games against Chamberlain while losing 37 over his career. Shaquille was a great center but he was not better than Hakeem. Basketball is more than just scoring.

In comparison, Shaq's offensive rating is 113. Hakeem offensive rating is 108... 5 points difference.. and this is considering that Shaq played as a role player later in his career and Shaq peaks much harder to Hakeem.
Again, you are comparing a guy whose peak has 52%FG with someone whose peak has 60% FG. The average FG% of NBA at 1995 is ~45%.
The difference in efficiency between league average and Hakeem (7%), is about the same as the efficiency difference between Hakeen and Shaq (8%).
Shaq and Hakeem are just on completely different level offensively.. while their defensive rating only differ by 3 points... Not really, he does have a lot of respect for the greats at Center, always had
Shaq always put Kareem and Wilt before himself
I have The Dream ahead. You cannot just throw out the head to head in the CHIP. Master class. Love Shaq but when he criticizes the young guys i cannot help but want to yell at him, you never maximize your talent. You could have won 7 or more with Kobe without your ego in the way. F.R.E.E. throws. The end of the game is important and they had to change rules because you were soooo bad.
Olajuwan kicked his ass in the Finals.
Bill Russell is ahead of Shaq too.
Shaq is the most unstoppable
When taking into account career accomplishments he is about right, he's the 3rd greatest center. When talking about who's a better player, I'd take Hakeem over Shaq, especially for today's league.
Shaq was never better than Dream or Kareem, as a basketball player, but he's easily the most dominant BIG in an era of go hard BIGs. It's not even close. He's ahead of Dream because his brand of dominance was so insanely physical that only Dream battled him for 4qrts. Everyone else kinda backed off or fell off in the 2nd half.
I only got Kareem ahead of him because of his individual along with his team success. 2nd most points, 6 MVPs, 6 chips, most unguardable shot in history, etc…but Shaq number two in my book
Hakeem will always be better than Shaq for me. He didn’t have the dominant stretch like Shaq did, but he had much more longevity, he won back to back titles without Kobe or DWade, he was infinitely better defensively, and he has the best footwork in the history of basketball. Not to mention he swept Shaq in ‘95. No doubt in my mind.
Yeah, but you have less basketball skill than any of those, and you not better than The Dream. They should call you The Nightmare, and that's a compliment because I love you Lisa and someday we will be married.😘
Shaq is the 4th best center of all time.
How can you guys forget Bill Russell?
He won a championship or two as a player coach. Defensive genius. Watch the documentary on Russell maybe highest basketball IQ of all time.
Hakeem dominated him for an entire series
Shaq's list is bad. He's better than Wilt. Kareem and Hakeem were more dominant than him. Shaq had several years of sheer dominance and then he physically let himself go. IMO, Hakeem is arguably the best center of all-time.
I remember Shaq his rookie year. If he was a maniac who dedicated himself 100% to the game, he'd be over MJ. He should have won in 95 and him and Kobe should have won in 04. There's 6 right there
Kareem, Wilt and Olajuwon were far more skilled centers than Shaq for sure...also Bill Russell and Duncan could enter this debate...
WILT IS THE MOST DOMINANT CENTER OF ALL TIME!!! PERIOD!! NO ONE COMES CLOSE!!
Hakeem will never be behind shaq 😂
Shaq is humble. But he was not better than Hakeem. In fact, Hakeem dominated him when he was with Orlando. Hakeem swept Shaq in the finals. But Shaq was young then too.
Tbh. He should be 1st ballot .
3 finals mvp - 4 rings in a era where dynasty franchises & traditional frontcouurt/centers meant something.
Hakeem is over Shaq, we already have enough sample. If Wilt gave 50% to basketball he's the GOAT period.
Shaq could have been #1 or 2, if he could have made 1/2 of his free throws !!! Admire Shaq LOTS....❤😂
Hakeem kicked his ass! A forward, Elvin Hayes has more rebounds. Bill Russel was way, way, way better than all of them.
Shaq definitely top 3. The most dominant player of all time BUT he couldve been better if he had a better work ethic.
He was always teetering on obese to the point where injuiries played a huge role in him not being the best player of all time.
until Shaq puts up more points than wilt, he wasn’t more dominant than Wilt. And ain’t no way he was more skilled than Hakeem. So what’s he arguing about?
Hakeem caught a young Shaq, and ate him up, it is hard for me to say Shaq is better than anyone on that list, and I love Shaq. If I am picking a center, both in their primes, I am going Hakeem.
Hakeem was my dude growing up, but Shaq was a force of nature...no less than 3, but I would personally put him at #1
I agree with 3 but I'd have
Kareem
Hakeem
Shaq
Joker
As my 5 best bigs all time. I think joker passes everyone up by the time he retires as the goat
Hakeem leads you by miles in rebounding, blocks and steals. wtf is wrong with people with this one sided offense bs. As a center, the game of basketball is predicated more on the defensive end. Aka own the middle and it’s on both sides
