  • o, you are probably looking for my emails because your gaited horse doesn't gait
the smoothest yet. Why? Because gaited horses are hard! You are not alone! I
talk to so many people who are having all the same issues you are! They are struggling
and trying so hard to get a smooth gait. In this video, I am going to talk about why
gaited horses were so hard for me and why you should keep working at it!

Thank you for your encouragement! I am starting my first gaited horse and it has been such a challenge! I too sucmmed to the thought that gaited horses were "easier" than trotting horses.... But I have to admit it is taking my horsemanship to a whole nother level and I try to remember that as my teeth are being jarred out of my head :) Thanks again!

I agree that gaining can be hard work. I had a horse that my granddaughter was trying to help me teach a canter. After a while she said “grandma, one leg was doing this, the other leg was doing that and the third was doing something else....none of the legs were doing the same thing!” We laughed because it was funny but it was also true. Gaited horse’s have more possibilities to vary how they move according to their strength, health and even training. Well I went onto another horse who luckily was trained really well and gaits like a champ plus he has an awesome canter. I think the person who taught him to do the gaits consistently and so well. Now I am the benefactor of her work and I try to cooperate with the way that encourages him to keep that.wonderful gait. Even a great gait can be ruined if the horse starts being consistently ridden wrong.

Hi Ivy, love all the info that you share :)!!! My paso seems to gait fine..I just love reading all about what you do!!! :) My paso isn't a high end one and I trained him to the bit and taught him how to canter...that was 16 years ago. He is now 20 and still going strong. I even take dressage lessons on him. Any info on pasos or any other gaited horses are in inspiration to me. Thank You :)

Ivy, you are such an inspiration! How do you always know just what to say? You have a knack for horses AND people, what a beautiful combination! It shows that you love what you're doing and I'm so grateful you're there to help. Thank you for saying it's hard work. I used to think it wouldn't be a deal breaker if it didn't happen but since I've gotten a taste of gaiting I'm going to keep going, in part thanks to you! P.S.: I love the music.
