  • The phenomenon of 'The Fold' is very common throughout manufacturing and the natural world, but only recently have designers, engineers, scientists and others begun to study it as a stand-alone subject. The lecture will offer an overview of this fascinating multi-disciplinary subject, showing how folding is used in space exploration, nanotechnology, fashion design, math education ...and much more!
    PAUL JACKSON
Paul Jackson has been a professional paper folder and origami artist since 1983. He divides his time between teaching 'Folding' to students from many design specialisms, writing books (his 2011 book 'Folding Techniques for Designers' is a best seller), creating folded artworks and being a consultant for a great diversity of projects. He has an MA in Fine Art from University College London.

I have enjoyed folding all my life from the everyday tasks around the home to my first job as a shirt folder ( long time ago) I have always thought about the meditative qualities and philosophical links. I thank you for your talk, it has answered a lot of questions for me and opened up many more.

Admire your wife’s efforts of programming for school children. In India we are trying to popularise this as art form or model making to attract general people to origami. Though it is very popular in engineering and design schools. People are innovating with the help of Origami. In the field of space and medicine packaging lighting etc we see Origami everywhere.

Huh, never thought Paul Jackson himself would be on RUclips. Tutorials of his models are in the hundreds on the platform. Hearing the world-renowned artist himself give a lecture must've been a privilege.

Definitely imformative but you have to question the validity of the information when he has an entire essay talking about origami and never once mentions the creators of it .

Art or not art - I agree, „Origami is no art“. As oil or watercolor per se is no art, neither playing saxophone or Organ or singing.
They all are technics. But few people do art with them. - Or not, as the most of us.
