    Please don't drive over the line with traffic on the other side. Test with 0 traffic. I've tested with no traffic simulating what a drunk driver would do and it corrected almost everytime.

    Crossed the line far too many times as a night shift guy then as a professional driver. Can't say enough good about this vehicle Platform. I do enjoy the Hyundai system which I have personal experience with. This is light years ahead of that and all others no doubt. Amazing thing and in a way sad given the constant hate thrown at Tesla even still.

    Brian, watch again and notice how it reacts when there's a single yellow vs a double yellow line. That's the key variable. It nudges on single lines. It warns and nudges on double yellow.

    Not a big fan of these tests with traffic on the road. Just for some youtube fame? Better test on an empty street or don‘t do it at all. Especially as you didn‘t seem to be informed about how it is supposed to work before you started.

    I noticed is that If you keep your hands off the wheel and it starts to veer off, it works almost 99% of the time! Took a while to figure out because people were complaining about how it doesn’t work all the time. For the right lane marker, it’s a hit or miss if it’s not painted. Needs to be painted in order to work correctly.
    It’s not dependent on speed either. I’ve had it happen while I was driving 15-25 mph.
    Also it doesn’t need a car to be coming at you in order to initiate.
    Great video! I also noticed that if you keep your hand on the wheel, it allows you to go over sometimes.

    You really need to find a GoPro alternative (for audio anyway) it really is bad and in 2019 pretty much unacceptable by most viewers. That being said I'm still a fan and that's why I took the time to leave this comment.

    Even if it is not working 100% of the time this is a definite step in the right direction for built-in safety features and it should improve over time. Nice video (but do be careful!)

  • @model3man

    Brian, in my testing I have noticed that if the auto steer symbol does not illuminate, then the lane assist doesn’t do anything at all in any situations. So unless it detects that there are lanes, and the auto steer icon illuminates, the assist feature doesn’t work in my car. So I wait for the symbol to appear and then I let it steer toward the centre and it always nudges me back. That may have something to do with the variable nature on your test run?

    I’ve been driving around with this feature for a little while and it seems like the angle that you are about to cross a line at may matter. If the angle is too sharp then it can’t/won’t assist you. But if the angle is slight enough AP must think that the move isn’t intentional and assists.
    Just my take away from driving with it for that past week or so.

    I appreciate the methodical testing etc. but I'm cracking up at the (paraphrasing) "oops up on the grass" and "let's go scare some people". You've achieved proper balance of precision and absurdity necessary for my approval. I enjoy this same type of testing myself as the new features come out. Semi-related but not really: I loved Tesla's reply when faced with somebody's research that "people find the Autopilot name misleading, Tesla shouldn't use it" (which included 6% that thought the name alone meant they could sleep while driving, etc.) and Tesla responded something like "if 'Autopilot' is misleading, then alas so is 'Automobile'". Be safe!

  • @DanFrederiksen
    @DanFrederiksen 5 лет назад

    I don't get it, don't care for it. When it's as flaky as that, what's the use. Autopilot shouldn't spill out into non autopilot. Make AP work and then use that. No maybes.

    • @xxZerosumxx
      @xxZerosumxx 5 лет назад

    Brain, from the Model 3 Owner's Manual, Lane Assist warns you of undesired lane departures by vibrating the steering wheel
    slightly if a front wheel passes over a lane marking and the associated turn signal is off. This warning is active only when driving between approximately 36 and 90 mph ". As I recall, many of your "tests" were at less than 36 mph.

  • @ElectricGlider2016
    @ElectricGlider2016 5 лет назад

    It doesn't need a car to automatically warn you and take over. Every morning I cross over a little bit into a bike lane coming up to a T intersection and my Model 3 always thinks I'm about to crash. It's a little annoying frankly and therefore I turn it off.

  • @cturtle97
    @cturtle97 5 лет назад

    Scared me a few times there, Brian. I’m driving a M3P with AP 3.0 and software version 16.3.2. Was driving a couple of days ago at 35 mph and gently crossed a middle yellow line to avoid some mulch on the side of the road (residential street) and the lane assist took control and tried to pull back into the mulch. Startled me. My hands were firmly on the wheel and it was a completely intentional action. I had to fight the car a bit to avoid the obstacle. I’m considering disabling the feature until the bugs get worked out, but want others to be aware of it.

  • @andyfeimsternfei8408
    @andyfeimsternfei8408 5 лет назад

    Seems like this update makes it only work if you are not steering. There must be no pressure on the wheel and the car drifts on it own over the line. If you steer it off line, it will not react.

  • @ericy.2108

    Odd.. works very well for me- almost too aggressively. Usually I see it on straight roads though, and when I’m not paying attention so I’m very slowly drifting. Model 3 HW3

    The "Assist" setting on the "Lane Departure Avoidance" feature is different than the "Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance" feature. Setting the "Lane Departure Avoidance" feature to "Assist" will cause the car, when and if it senses you moving out of your lane without a signal on, apply corrective steering action to keep you in your lane. It also checks for hands on the wheel, and if there are no hands on the wheel, it warns you to take control. The "Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance" feature (the first two alarms you get in the video) senses that you are drifting from your lane (or off of the road surface) and are about to hit something, and then applies corrective steering and warns. This usually gets me when I pass mailboxes, so it must use the sonar in addition to the cameras. On a lane without (good) lane markings, you are not likely to get "Lane Departure Avoidance" warnings or assisted steering, however you may get "Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance" warnings if you go off the driveable surface, even when there are no lane lines, if the car things you are going to hit something higher than a curb.

    Thanks Brian for allowing everyone to think you're a drunk driver, lol. It is apparent this is a new feature and they've erred on the side of caution for how much it interacts. I've had mine nudge me when going off a little on the right. It's definitely shown me that I am completely unaware of how many times I drift close to the lines - those nudges are startling when you don't expect them.

  • @albatross9980

    The lane departure protection reacts to lines on the road. If there is white line on the right hand side it will stop you drifting off to the right as well.

      @@i1Tesla If I see you swerve in my direction, as you did numerous times, I'm not waiting for you to cross the yellow line for me to react.. you can't predict the skill, attentiveness or reaction expectations of an oncoming unknown vehicle. I don't generally have an issue with your testing.. on this occasion you went a little far. You have a popular channel and are a people person.. there's zero chance you can't find a volunteer to coordinate your testing. There's no excuse. I've expressed my concern.
