      I don't think low honor Arthur is this unhinged manic people make him up to be. Maybe in free roam under the player's control, sure, but in the story he mostly comes off to me as a more apathetic, selfish Arthur. One who either learns that getting John to his family is more important or reverts to the only "good" he knows which is trying to get them the money.

    Yeah, it is good, but nothing compared to the "I'm afraid" line with the Mother superior. It was a truly human and relatable moment from Arthur giving the player a sense of sympathy for his fear of death. The scene works either way having Arthur talking to a religious follower giving the scene context to morality before death. It just hit you harder whilst high honor to know he's come to terms with his own mortality and inner morality but hopeless to the fact he will soon die with nothing good in his life left. There were man tears aplenty lol.

    • @themadtitan7603
      @themadtitan7603 2 года назад +18

      I think this scene could've been as effective if Arthur still said "I'm afraid" and Swanson was set up as a more likeable character throughout the game just like Sister Calderón (not Mother Superior btw) was in her previous two appearances. It would've felt and still feels more similar to Arthur's arc by taking to this man who's redeeming himself and walking back on the path he believed in once again, just like the gang itself lost their way and moral code years ago and Arthur's actions in Chapter 6 was what the gang was supposed to be.
      Instead, he's mostly just drunk comic relief for most of the game and not involved in much crimes that would've added impact to him losing his way.

I dont think so, he always cared for the whole gang as a leader. Of course he has to show who is in charge. And he only gets offended very quickly when he is being questioned only by arthur and probably john too, because he knows them a life time, and would trust them with his life. In the later chapters like in Ch IV, he starts getting a little offended because he now knows some have some serious apprehension about his leadership seeing them through and not just doubts about a specific course of action they're taking. But he's still reasonable and says that the camp is not prison so anyone who's not liking where it's going could just leave. By Chapter 6, that when he straight up sees it as hearsay and an attack on his ego when he's being question as he views it as an example of a gang that's stopped believing him and looking up to him as their northstar.

From a story standpoint low honor Arthur is a man that acknowledges his bad actions and embraces the consequences. Regardless how you play Arthur he sees a lot of himself in Swanson since they both want to change but feel stuck, low honor Arthur would never kill anyone in the gang except Micah

    There's actually a third interaction you can get on this mission and it's still with the Reverend. My playthrough I started out thinking "Im gonna do a low honor one and see how it goes" but it was just too depressing for me honestly so I switched up to high honor. Right around the time this mission comes I was right around the middle in terms of honor, only the last half of this scene is different. After the Reverend explains how he tried to get the kids and women to come with him and that he can't die for some fool Arthur just leans back and goes "Yeah I know what you mean" then they proceed to talk about how much Arthur has changed into a good man and how he should continue down that path regardless of what lay at the end (paraphrasing). At the end of the encounter Arthur looks content with himself. That interaction is better than the other two, it instils a sense of hope in that no matter how it ends Arthur will end it as a good man.

      Agreed. I prefer high honor Arthur. However, I think low honor is interesting if viewed as a different fall arc for Arthur rather than this black/white scenario of low simply being the alternate bad karma playthrough many players seem to view it as, which is a disservice to the game's writing imo.
      With low honor, Arthur turns to his rageful, selfish and apathetic side due to the pressure and bad luck the gang is experiencing. When he realizes Dutch is losing his way and he has a short time to live, he tries to make some amends to the best his nature allows him.
      He sees his ultimate redemption is tied to getting John out, so he either A). Sacrifices himself to the law while John escapes or B). Tries to get the only thing he ever know was good: money. I don't think Arthur is getting it for himself in that ending, it's that he came to view it as the ultimate priority. So if John is to survive and have a future with his family, he should get him money first over just getting John to his family in one piece.

      @themadtitan7603 Год назад +9

      @@semarikuruarashi6484 I prefer high honor like anyone else. However, I don't there's any canon honor given that John's description of Arthur in the epilogue is "he was good and bad" which to me clearly indicates an ambiguity they wanted to have so every player is validated in their experience and the fact that he isn't mentioned in the first game helps ensure that.
      Secondly, I don't think that low honor Arthur doesn't redeem himself. I think the game is titled Red Dead Redemption because anyway you play the game and whichever ending you choose, you'll get redeemed. The difference is how MUCH can Arthur get redeemed imo. With high honor he dies satisfied that he's made amends, learned to be a better and more caring person who took a gamble and did a loving act.
      With low honor, depending on the player, he may get a Walter White-redemption; meaning he's not a much better person at the end but at least got to make amends with people he wronged and helped John, his family and Tilly to get out. People associate the money ending with low honor, but I disagree that it's meant to be the vain, greedy ending. Since you can do it with high honor and Arthur is dying anyway, the cash is clearly meant for John and his family which makes sense with low honor Arthur who prioritizes financial security over John getting safely to his family.

    I prefer the Sister's interaction from the Good Honor's end because it showed Arthur's true feeling deep in his heart, but this one is also really nice. Because Reverend had been known for his drunkenness and drug abusing. But hearing those words out loud from him to a Bad Honor Arthur? That's pure, and it must had given Arthur a few thought about his final moment, to fight for someone else besides his ego and selfishness (because of his Bad Honor)
