I have a very important and simple thing to say. The more you criticise a game the better. Why is Pokke trying to defend HSR and suck it's dick? (views maybe) But that doesn't make sense as he said that the CURRENT state of HSR is good. The amount of five star CHARACTERS you need to make a team good is stupid, with no F2P option at all. I see nobody talking about it properly at all. As a new player (from my experience), you suffer a lot. Also- I agree with tectone 95% of time. But he went way way way to soft on mr pokke. I like Mr Pokke's videos which are under 12 min, and me disagreeing with him doesn't make me hate him (or him being genuinely wrong). I will still watch his content. Tectone should have had been a little bit harsh. A big L for baldemort. Old characters getting useless and powercreept is not a problem for me. The problem is when a new character becomes dogshit within few updates (quickly).

Powercreep and the game just didn't have a skill ceiling. 2 buttons and pull the new units to instantly win. I get that gacha games find a way to create a problem and sell you the solution, but in a simple af turn based game this just made powercreep way worse.

It's not only in HSR, it's in HI3 and was in HG2 too. But a lot of people got into Hoyoverse games with Genshin, so they don't know about HI3 and HG2. I’m a dolphin in the majority of Gacha games, (Nikke, Wuwa, being the main,) but I refuse on HSR to spend more than the monthly battle pass literally cause I know things will get powercreep and some stupid Mechanic will be introduced that forces you to pull or you can’t clear end game content. This is especially bad for F2p because you rely on clearing end game content to be able to build up your wishes, and the insanity of the powercreep is 100% intentional and predatory, even more so because it is a Turn-based game. Since with Action/combat games there’s a layer of mechanical skill and knowledge of Rotations or hidden mechanics. But with simple Turn-based games like HSR, makes it have no little to no Player Agency besides learning when to use an attack or skill, or make sure your buffs are all active. Another thing is that YOU WILL GET hit regardless in HSR, with the exponential increase of damage that enemies deal, some would flat out knock your team out as seen with some Leaks of the 3.0 bosses, making a Limited Time Character pretty much required. Their lack of care when making End-game content, artificially boosting difficulty by adding more HP/Damage, and then ontop of that adding how many cycles you can do is beyond me. Then they create BROKEN DPS (That will just power crept in 2 patches,) and a BROKEN support for said DPS for that artificial difficulty. And don’t get me fucking started on Eidolons, that whole system is fucked, some characters need it as part of their KIT to be considered Meta, otherwise they would be okay or good at best. Which you can’t have because Okay or Good won’t help you clear end game content with the pace they’re going at. same with Lightcones, but not to the extent. You also have to build teams in HSR, meaning you have to pray to God you win your 50/50s or your brand new DPS is going to be okay, or good at best. TL:DR, Don’t spend your money on HSR, because your favorite characters will get powercrept in 2 patches. Devs that don’t know how to make Turn-Based Combat engaging or difficult without just pumping so much HP into them that you would need a new DPS. Predatory business practices, but not much of surprise at this point since it’s Mihoyo.

I don't know what y'all are doing. I have 120 pulls saved up for Aglaea already, pulled Sunday. Skipped a lot of characters recently after Firefly I basically only got Fei and Sunday and that's it. And I'm clearing MoC just fine, PF was a little tricky with the new mechanic, but I just needed to figure out the right team comps. So in a way, Pokke is rigght, people just don't know how to restrain themselves and do long term planning or are capable of skipping things they don't need or only marginally improve a team instead of building another one.
Annoys me when people blame starrail powercreep on the fact that its a turn based game. Playing reverse1999 a turn based game with borderline 0 powercreep since launch while also being extremely f2p friendly due to weapon banners not existing, as well as buffing old 1.0 units in end game content with unique buffs so they're used again. Say it how it is, its not because HSR is turn based, its because the game at its core is a shallow parody of a turn based game, designed to milk money.

Hence, i switched to Firefly because Firefly forces her element to any stage and boss in the game. I also pulled Acheron and Jiaoqiu to complement each other. Acheron, i pulled because she does colorless break. 2 months ago, i clear all content, MOC, Apocalypse, etc, using auto button. The game became so dumb. Braindead. I deleted the game after. My life is now better without that game.

Yep DHIL e0 with his sig lightcone(and my build is good I've 100 cr rate and almost 300 cr DMG), with 160 SPD Sparkle, Luocha 171 spd , 160 TY cleared MoC 12 in 6 cycles in imaginary weak enemies! You are basically dragging your older units, with new units. In my case it's Acheron with JQ. When it became normalized to pull for every 1,2 eidolon on every support you have to make older unit function properly? Correction I've updated my TY for Sunday and his lc, literally forgot. That makes things worse.

Power creep can either be a tool to help broaden the game design landscape while possibly opening up alternative gameplay paths for the players. Or power creep can be a weapon thats used to elicit constant FOMO while trying to maximize player spending on your game. Guess which one Hoyo eill always choose? Ifk how the one thing Genshin still excels at is a very modest powercreep where even the og 4 stars are still viable options for meta level teams, if not the BiS character for those same teams.

So a more accurate analogy would be saying youre gambling in the casino, spend $1000 dollars on tokens, then a couple of games later they say those tokens are now only worth $500, and if you want tokens that are 1-1 with the dollar you have to buy these new tokens they just introduced. And also poker buy in is $1000 so if you want to keep playing you can’t use those tokens you bought for the purpose of playing poker, you HAVE to buy new ones

There's only a few (and they're all mostly cryo) characters that that fallen off to the point where they struggle to clear content. the issue with a turn based game like HSR is that there isn't much that constitutes a "skill issue". The only improvements I can see are the following: 1, getting the new/newer characters, 2, getting existing character's eidolons/signature lightcones/lightcone imprints, and 3, better relics. HSR is NOT a hard game. I think that the folks who pair Blade with Aventurine are in the minority.
Yeah, people literally coping saying it requires great team building knowledge when it's just put the team that has some synergy together, and hope your relics are good enough, and that you have signature LCs and the latest units since they have higher multipliers to keep with the DPS check lol

I won't stop saying it. Inflating HP is literally lazy desing. Build puzzles around the bosses, you can have mobs up with some several resistant buffs for the boss so you have to deal with them first, like the Nightmare boss in 2.0. One of my favourite boss fight in HSR is the Cocolia-Bronya fight, they bounce of each other really well. I'm really scared when I see a Cocolia turn followed up with a Bronya turn because the amount of damage is insane but you can just ignore that by one shotting Cocolia I guess. Going back to my previous point, while Bronya is on field Cocolia should be tankier so it just isn't a fight of let's BOMB the boss with everything and ignore the fight. It's a turn based game let's use our base, TURNS, to play the game as enemies. But I guess Hoyoverse can't or won't think because of that. Another example is the the Abundance Deer fight with the plants healing HP. Is one of those cases where the idea was right but because HP just goes up and up the fight turns to be an absolute nightmare. Once in second or third bar if you let one of the plants heal the deer it turns to be such a huge about it's just a nightmare to deal with. Sum that to the resist and def buffs, the toughness block and the counter plants... It was a really good fight, that got ruined. Svarog has more or less the same problem though it's less noticeable. The new bosses like Sunday or Hoolay are just about playing the meta comp, Break and Follow up, to deal with their "puzzles" if you can call them that. Once the "puzzle" is about having or not having the pieces instead of finding or not finding the pieces the game is just broken. I want to see how they kill the game in 3.X now
yeah right now many defend the game because they still can clear with OLD char and META support with eidolon, if the game keep increasing HP for next next MOC , even the support cant save the old unit

The pace at which HSR power creeps older DPS units kinda makes vertical investment into DPS units impossible. Imagine having an e6S1 Jing Liu then comparing it to E0S1 Fei Xiao. ;_;
because the take is very controversial, if its another day drama, only drama cc react. i mean in the end just fix the sentence and people will be gone anyway, but fire already lit , it will keep like this until new update come and people busy playing
The only way I can see the powercreep being fixed in HSR is by Hoyo going the PGR way of doing warzone. The main currency to get pulls is based on participation but if you score high you get more materials to refine your characters, for example it wouldn't matter how much cycle you're taking to clear MoC 12 as long as you clear it you get your 3* crystals rewards but if you manage to clear it in under 5 cycles you get like 500 resin and 1 of each of the selective substat reroll or something like that. Not only it would allow older units to still be relevant,keep the F2P players engaged because not only they get full rewards but have the goal to improve their teams and whales and meta player can min max their teams even more and flex their 0 cycles.Lastly even if the newer units are clearly better than old ones and powercreep is still there, it's effect are way less impactful and the playerbase probably wouldn't complain about it. This idea has probably been already said but it honestly could alleviate a lot of problems for a majority of the playerbase imo
No, only failed games do this to appease players. As long as HSR makes 50 mil a month they don't need to change anything. Why change something that works great? They will make changes if the game's revenues drop significantly, however.

Pokke said that powercreep is partially a skill issue problem and then says that HSR takes less skill than Genshin or Wuwa. We must be all stupid then if we struggle with content.
a counter argument on ZZZ powercreep, Smack explained it well, we did have a roadmap for Miyabi (she was presented in 1.0), and we knew, since she was said to be the youngest Void Hunter in history, she was going to be a beast. we also knew she was going to be an ice dps, at that point Pokke's argument on intelligence makes sense, since people still pulled on Ellen's banner knowing full well she was going to be powercrept, hell I skipped her for Miyabi too (although that was a personal preference on my part as well). HSR is just a whole other beast and you basically don't know anything aside something a few weeks or a month from now. edit mid vid: probably the only thing Genshin did good was the "reverse powercreep", if I came back after more than 1 year (I left in 4.1) I would probably still be able to clear the end game (with a bit of practice on the new mobs and bosses) without too much of an effort or pulling a new unit. that is a rare Genshin W. edit 2: oh so Smack did talk about Miyabi during this vid lol. edit 3: YOOO 911 OF GACHA IS CRAZY edit 4: can't wait for your call with Pokke, hopefully not like the ones with teccy and smack.

3 minutes in and gacha smack already done an Iyo take. Powercreep in Diablo 3; no such thing. I have thousands of hours in Diablo 3. You wanted to power creep in that game, you design something that would make Tal Rasha's Meteor Wizard irrelevant. Nothing came EVEN close to that build, nothing. It topped every single ladder with each season the game had. Nothing came even close to how fucking absurdly powerful that build was. And also, Diablo 3 fulls into a different genre of game. its an ARPG; You don't gamble for the loot with your credit card. The closest the game even came to a 'gacha' was the blood shards and even then, you didn't swipe. You killed bosses for the shards. The seasonal themes where mechanics designed to make the game feel fresh and fun each season. You did the same thing every season but it was the theme that made it fresh. Diablo 4 does the same thing and depending on which team is designing those mechanics can either be fun or not. And Diablo 4 kinda had power creep, Spiritborn is a busted class that blows everything else out out of the water... but D4 came VERY close to Tal Rasha's with Starfall Coronet. VERY close. Jesus Christ, so dumb

yeah that's also a thing, I don't own any eidolons, but I do have access to damage simulations through fribbels, and I tried to see at what level of investment would my Jingliu be able to do enough damage to deplete the HP of the bug side in this MoC. I took around 30% of the HP because of the trotters. I got to the point where e2s1 Jingliu, e1s1 Robin and e1s1 Sunday were still not enough damage. This is around the value of 1000 pulls, we get around, every patch, 100, so it would take me the total around 10 patches, mor than a yea of saving every single jade for my Jingliu to barely clear MoC12 in a team with a cost of ten 5 star entities. With half of that I make a Feixiao team and clear faster. So yeah, this narrative of "just save and pull for eidolons" is just straight up bullshit

51:06, there is a limit to that. At some point you will have to increase the power of a new character or meta will become stale, unless you introduce super obnoxious buffs like character X now does twice the damage.

He went on and on and on about how you can mitigate it with smart pulling but the issue was that the entire time he was just looking at the banner history and talking about where you should pull, but you don't have all that information at the time. I’m a dolphin in the majority of Gacha games, (Nikke, Wuwa, being the main,) but I refuse on HSR to spend more than the monthly battle pass literally cause I know things will get powercreep and some stupid Mechanic will be introduced that forces you to pull or you can’t clear end game content.
This is especially bad for F2p because you rely on clearing end game content to be able to build up your wishes, and the insanity of the powercreep is 100% intentional and predatory, even more so because it is a Turn-based game.
Since with Action/combat games there’s a layer of mechanical skill and knowledge of Rotations or hidden mechanics.
But with simple Turn-based games like HSR, makes it have no little to no Player Agency besides learning when to use an attack or skill, or make sure your buffs are all active. Another thing is that YOU WILL GET hit regardless in HSR, with the exponential increase of damage that enemies deal, some would flat out knock your team out as seen with some Leaks of the 3.0 bosses, making a Limited Time Character pretty much required.
Their lack of care when making End-game content, artificially boosting difficulty by adding more HP/Damage, and then ontop of that adding how many cycles you can do is beyond me.
Then they create BROKEN DPS (That will just power crept in 2 patches,) and a BROKEN support for said DPS for that artificial difficulty.
And don’t get me fucking started on Eidolons, that whole system is fucked, some characters need it as part of their KIT to be considered Meta, otherwise they would be okay or good at best. Which you can’t have because Okay or Good won’t help you clear end game content with the pace they’re going at. same with Lightcones, but not to the extent.
You also have to build teams in HSR, meaning you have to pray to God you win your 50/50s or your brand new DPS is going to be okay, or good at best.
TL:DR, Don’t spend your money on HSR, because your favorite characters will get powercrept in 2 patches. Devs that don’t know how to make Turn-Based Combat engaging or difficult without just pumping so much HP into them that you would need a new DPS. Predatory business practices, but not much of surprise at this point since it’s Mihoyo.

I don't know what y'all are doing. I have 120 pulls saved up for Aglaea already, pulled Sunday. Skipped a lot of characters recently after Firefly I basically only got Fei and Sunday and that's it. And I'm clearing MoC just fine, PF was a little tricky with the new mechanic, but I just needed to figure out the right team comps.
So in a way, Pokke is rigght, people just don't know how to restrain themselves and do long term planning or are capable of skipping things they don't need or only marginally improve a team instead of building another one.

Playing reverse1999 a turn based game with borderline 0 powercreep since launch while also being extremely f2p friendly due to weapon banners not existing, as well as buffing old 1.0 units in end game content with unique buffs so they're used again. Say it how it is, its not because HSR is turn based, its because the game at its core is a shallow parody of a turn based game, designed to milk money.

Acheron, i pulled because she does colorless break. 2 months ago, i clear all content, MOC, Apocalypse, etc, using auto button. The game became so dumb. Braindead. I deleted the game after. My life is now better without that game.

Yep DHIL e0 with his sig lightcone(and my build is good I've 100 cr rate and almost 300 cr DMG), with 160 SPD Sparkle, Luocha 171 spd , 160 TY cleared MoC 12 in 6 cycles in imaginary weak enemies! You are basically dragging your older units, with new units. In my case it's Acheron with JQ. When it became normalized to pull for every 1,2 eidolon on every support you have to make older unit function properly? Correction I've updated my TY for Sunday and his lc, literally forgot. That makes things worse.

Any level of power creep in a game is 100% on the devs because, quite simply, they have complete control over that important aspect of their games. Power creep can either be a tool to help broaden the game design landscape while possibly opening up alternative gameplay paths for the players. Or power creep can be a weapon thats used to elicit constant FOMO while trying to maximize player spending on your game.
Guess which one Hoyo eill always choose? Ifk how the one thing Genshin still excels at is a very modest powercreep where even the og 4 stars are still viable options for meta level teams, if not the BiS character for those same teams.

The casino and gambling analogy is inaccurate and misleading. Because it’s not the gambling addiction people are criticizing with power creep, it’s that they devalue your units and the money you’ve spent.
So a more accurate analogy would be saying youre gambling in the casino, spend $1000 dollars on tokens, then a couple of games later they say those tokens are now only worth $500, and if you want tokens that are 1-1 with the dollar you have to buy these new tokens they just introduced.

the issue with a turn based game like HSR is that there isn't much that constitutes a "skill issue". The only improvements I can see are the following: 1, getting the new/newer characters, 2, getting existing character's eidolons/signature lightcones/lightcone imprints, and 3, better relics. HSR is NOT a hard game. I think that the folks who pair Blade with Aventurine are in the minority.

I won't stop saying it. Inflating HP is literally lazy desing. Build puzzles around the bosses, you can have mobs up with some several resistant buffs for the boss so you have to deal with them first, like the Nightmare boss in 2.0.
One of my favourite boss fight in HSR is the Cocolia-Bronya fight, they bounce of each other really well. I'm really scared when I see a Cocolia turn followed up with a Bronya turn because the amount of damage is insane but you can just ignore that by one shotting Cocolia I guess.
Going back to my previous point, while Bronya is on field Cocolia should be tankier so it just isn't a fight of let's BOMB the boss with everything and ignore the fight. It's a turn based game let's use our base, TURNS, to play the game as enemies.
But I guess Hoyoverse can't or won't think because of that.
Another example is the the Abundance Deer fight with the plants healing HP. Is one of those cases where the idea was right but because HP just goes up and up the fight turns to be an absolute nightmare. Once in second or third bar if you let one of the plants heal the deer it turns to be such a huge about it's just a nightmare to deal with. Sum that to the resist and def buffs, the toughness block and the counter plants... It was a really good fight, that got ruined. Svarog has more or less the same problem though it's less noticeable. The new bosses like Sunday or Hoolay are just about playing the meta comp, Break and Follow up, to deal with their "puzzles" if you can call them that.
Once the "puzzle" is about having or not having the pieces instead of finding or not finding the pieces the game is just broken. I want to see how they kill the game in 3.X now

The pace at which HSR power creeps older DPS units kinda makes vertical investment into DPS units impossible. Imagine having an e6S1 Jing Liu then comparing it to E0S1 Fei Xiao. ;_;

The only way I can see the powercreep being fixed in HSR is by Hoyo going the PGR way of doing warzone. The main currency to get pulls is based on participation but if you score high you get more materials to refine your characters, for example it wouldn't matter how much cycle you're taking to clear MoC 12 as long as you clear it you get your 3* crystals rewards but if you manage to clear it in under 5 cycles you get like 500 resin and 1 of each of the selective substat reroll or something like that. Not only it would allow older units to still be relevant,keep the F2P players engaged because not only they get full rewards but have the goal to improve their teams and whales and meta player can min max their teams even more and flex their 0 cycles.Lastly even if the newer units are clearly better than old ones and powercreep is still there, it's effect are way less impactful and the playerbase probably wouldn't complain about it. This idea has probably been already said but it honestly could alleviate a lot of problems for a majority of the playerbase imo
No, only failed games do this to appease players. As long as HSR makes 50 mil a month they don't need to change anything. Why change something that works great? They will make changes if the game's revenues drop significantly, however.

@ PGR is a mediocre low-budget little arena game. The developers literally beg players not to leave and promise to give away all the characters for free, because they understand that otherwise no one will need their game.

Pokke said that powercreep is partially a skill issue problem and then says that HSR takes less skill than Genshin or Wuwa. We must be all stupid then if we struggle with content.

a counter argument on ZZZ powercreep, Smack explained it well, we did have a roadmap for Miyabi (she was presented in 1.0), and we knew, since she was said to be the youngest Void Hunter in history, she was going to be a beast. we also knew she was going to be an ice dps, at that point Pokke's argument on intelligence makes sense, since people still pulled on Ellen's banner knowing full well she was going to be powercrept, hell I skipped her for Miyabi too (although that was a personal preference on my part as well).
HSR is just a whole other beast and you basically don't know anything aside something a few weeks or a month from now.
edit mid vid: probably the only thing Genshin did good was the "reverse powercreep", if I came back after more than 1 year (I left in 4.1) I would probably still be able to clear the end game (with a bit of practice on the new mobs and bosses) without too much of an effort or pulling a new unit. that is a rare Genshin W.

Powercreep is real, it's real in any gacha games, because the devs want to sell new characters, in some games it will be more obvious, in others it will be more subtle, but it will always happen.
Hsr was all about characters for me. I stopped playing because the characters I actually would want to play just aren't viable at all anymore. The game got less and less fun
It's just the simple fact that his take is very ignorant and comes from a place of privilege of being able to summon for every character because he has the cash for it. Idk, really unlikeable, unfollowed him on everything.

47:35 that's the point, if you well versed in the game, you would've known that super break is broken. Same as DHIL or Jingliu, both DHIL and Jingliu lasted more then a year. Of course if you want to 0 cycle you have to either go for cons or always pull a new thing.

1:04:15 Yea, that's why I left genshin, the meta was super stale. Nothing to grow my acc towards. I still play story when new one comes out, but I don't really pull for characters anymore. And that with the fact that genshin has more skill expression being an action game.
3 minutes in and gacha smack already done an Iyo take. Powercreep in Diablo 3; no such thing. I have thousands of hours in Diablo 3. You wanted to power creep in that game, you design something that would make Tal Rasha's Meteor Wizard irrelevant. Nothing came EVEN close to that build, nothing. It topped every single ladder with each season the game had. Nothing came even close to how fucking absurdly powerful that build was. And also, Diablo 3 fulls into a different genre of game. its an ARPG; You don't gamble for the loot with your credit card. The closest the game even came to a 'gacha' was the blood shards and even then, you didn't swipe. You killed bosses for the shards.
The seasonal themes where mechanics designed to make the game feel fresh and fun each season. You did the same thing every season but it was the theme that made it fresh. Diablo 4 does the same thing and depending on which team is designing those mechanics can either be fun or not. And Diablo 4 kinda had power creep, Spiritborn is a busted class that blows everything else out out of the water... but D4 came VERY close to Tal Rasha's with Starfall Coronet. VERY close.

I can say that I planned my pull everytime. but man, using my DHIL E2 S1 with Sparkle E0 S1 feels so fcking stupid nowadays. his dmg are getting wrecked by even a E0 firefly or acheron.

yeah that's also a thing, I don't own any eidolons, but I do have access to damage simulations through fribbels, and I tried to see at what level of investment would my Jingliu be able to do enough damage to deplete the HP of the bug side in this MoC. I took around 30% of the HP because of the trotters. I got to the point where e2s1 Jingliu, e1s1 Robin and e1s1 Sunday were still not enough damage. This is around the value of 1000 pulls, we get around, every patch, 100, so it would take me the total around 10 patches, mor than a yea of saving every single jade for my Jingliu to barely clear MoC12 in a team with a cost of ten 5 star entities. With half of that I make a Feixiao team and clear faster. So yeah, this narrative of "just save and pull for eidolons" is just straight up bullshit

@oyaoya7164 WuWa 2.0 has been a blast, you should definetly play it. As for HSR, I agree, ever since 2.5 if I could say I had fun in 5% of the time I spent playing that would be surprising, last thing I really enjoyed was fighting Hoolay in MoC, ever since than the game has been just a chore

Old characters getting useless and powercreept is not a problem for me. The problem is when a new character becomes dogshit within few updates (quickly).
51:06, there is a limit to that. At some point you will have to increase the power of a new character or meta will become stale, unless you introduce super obnoxious buffs like character X now does twice the damage.
