I love this video. It talks about the JDM scene back in the 90's, and how the fads of the mid 00's were going beyond what the term meant. But here we are in 2017 and this style as a whole has almost completely died out. Cars are being built for show points and instagram likes. It's so rare to see a clean Honda (or any car for that matter), built with functionality in mind. Got to go to the race track to see those kinds of cars, you won't see them at your local car show or Target parking lot. Katman and Lee are still around and a few of the other FFSquad guys - still doing the Honda thing and evolving. This is what Honda's are about.
when i was 10 back in 1997, my uncle had his little crew and would pick me up from school in his Del Sol SiR and i remember first time i felt vtec. it was fun... i was scared haha. i will always remember that day :]
This is the movie that really got me into the JDM Honda scene and inspired me to build my K20 EG, and also how i met one of my great friends Katman, I still treasure the original DVD i have of this film.
its know 3 o'clock in the morning and watching this video makes me sit right now in my ej9 and cruse throw the town Its really inspire mee to make a beast from my civic
It isn't all about Honda's. I'm a Honda guy my self but I truly love and admire every other Japanese car that is built right and tuned well. It's not about what is the fastest or what is the best. It's about what car you desire and what you want to build, even if it's from a Saab to a 2JZ Supra. Respect should be given to great builds even if the car isn't Japanese. It's a love and passion for what you want in a car, even if that means hellaflush, drifting, or speed. Honda's are always hated on because people make them look bad but the truth is, is that Honda has created impressive and awesome four cylinder engines that are capable of so much. Let's not forget that in the actual racing world, Honda is known for their f1 cars.
Saw the whole thing on my PlayStation but I had to get on the computer to let you guys know this was the best documentary I've ever seen. Seattle stand up!!!!
I have watched this so many times back in the days when I was driving a Honda. Makes me want to buy an ITR or AP1, some Work/Enkei rims, drop it an inch and just drive it.
I hate how people have to judge other people because they have a civic or they're a "ricer" like get over yourself. If they like their car and they think their VTEC is the best thing out there, let them be. Everyone has different tastes. Respect everyone's build because they put time and effort in just like you...
The real car guys here that actually appreciate this kind of thing aren't gonna sit here and just lay hate on Honda. So what if there not an evo or a wrx and a supra. The real point of this if you watch and pay attention is how this got big in America and it started with Hondas and Acuras because they were more affordable and cheao and easy to add power and performance to and actually still be quick cars. If you really love the scene guy, don't just trash talk simply because they are Hondas. If you were serious you would have more respect for Hondas and Acuras and Toyotas that are something besides a Supra because that's what it started with. There wouldn't be a scene for you to be a "part of" if it weren't for these cars. A real car guy that's really into it and has respect for what this is all about wont just lay hate. (2003 Honda Civic Si converted too all TypeR/Mugen) This is really a ope as documentary and they have some nice looking ass cars on here. I love my 03 Ep3 and STILL want to get a TypeR Integra haha
Good video guys!! told the story just how it was. Hondas became a passion and our life style all over the USA, Super Street Magazine, NHRA Battle of the imports, hot import nights THat was life! Builds in our garages, street racing (before ghetto people arrived) made every weekend fun. Think I may even have some old magazines laying around
man these dudes brought up a lot of good memories of the mid 90's to early 2k a great time for the Honda moment. even though I gone on to bigger displacement and rwd I will always love my Hondas.
Just randomly typed this after not seeing it for like 20 years. I got out of the game in like 2013 after having kids and all that. First car was a 95 gsr then a 95 civic coupe, 94 ls Integra, 08 fit ( first in north America with a Spoon certificate), 93 si delsol, 2000 hatch, 2000 coupe, then the last was a 88 rx7. Fucking cheers for having this on here
I just got my 97 civic coupe and since ive had it everyday im in it doing something be it stripping interior or maintenance. I love it so much and have so many plans
I used to hate Hondas.I have always liked v8s until I actually drove my little brothers 89_ Honda crx.I fukin fell in love with it.it was a pretty fast fun car. I bought my first crx it was a 1990 crx.I've own three now and I bought my bros crx.and have a b16a and I have a ek eg and a crx.and still kept my mustang haha
Love this doc - i have a honda civic EK hatchback 98 My best friend just got a Honda civic ek sedan 98 passed the itch onto him Both of them are ek1's #HondaLife
A JDM documentary without Zs, Supras, Celicas, MR2s, WRXs, Evos, or RXs isn't much of a JDM documentary. Its good for those Honda only guys though, I still enjoyed some of it.
the hellaflush, slammed society, etc became the successor of the ricer boys and are more annoying. However, I like how the cars have style as opposed to what old school riccers had.
Love watching this video, i was 28 when I watch this first time, i was driving tuned honda civic, next nissan 200SX RS13-best time of my life...this time will never come back😢 today's automotive/electric cars are going bottom....world is going down...
After all it's not the body that matters it's the motor because the motor is what makes the cars run. I've seen cars that had crappy bodies on them but the motors were pristine and clean.
I get the idea of the video as it was my slightly older friend who got me interested by helping him all the time with his old Honda Civics, however I was also that kind of guy who respected Hondas, but was inclined to be one of those types who preferred not to go the same route as everyone else and went with a Nissan S chassis platform instead because of the rear wheel drive. Of course, given a couple years later, little did I know that Nissans would ever grow to be about as popular as the drifting scene was finally emerging from the small underground group that it was originally to almost mainstream in such a seemingly short amount of time that it seemed like as if it all happened overnight! Maybe I should've went with a Mazda or Toyota. Still,I didn't regret the Nissan S-chassis in the long run becoming about as common and popular in the tuning scene in the end either way. LOL!
There's nothing like listening to my VQ35de in my G35 coupe. Just tonight I was making some runs to check her out, it was a great feeling to have her WOT and hearing his scream as I was going about 110mph. (no one around me of course). Just installed a larger throttle body on her and wanted to see how different she felt.
Literally 100% hate in these comments.. This "car community" makes me fucking sick. True car enthusiasts will spend their time talking to others and learning about their passions and mindsets instead of laughing and pointing like a middleschooler so that they can get "likes" to feel good about themselves. The beauty of any community is variety.. So why so much hate? Why can't we just all chill and get along? Isn't that what it's ultimately about?
I just found this, my first car was an 02 honda civic lx coupe and I've never looked back I'm looking for a 93-5 hatchback currently to turn into a rally car and whip the fuck around hahaha
Best video on the internet. I will watch this video at least 3 times a year until I die. Anyone know what he background music is? I’d love to just crank up these tunes and cruise in my eg hatch
Awesome documentary! Hondas and Acuras started the whole JDM scene in the 90's. Is it dying down a little, yes.. Because these new Hondas are ugly lol. That's why you see the new Honda motors (K20) going into older Hondas (EG, DC). VTEC ruled the streets until STIs and EVOs came out. Now Shelby, 5.0s, SS, Z28, ZR1s and the rest of the American cars are starting to dominate. Just depends on where you live. Some may not agree, but hey.. just my opinion.
your point doesn't make any sense honda guys put K20 in the older cars since now the engine swap is less expensive and there's parts to make the swap easier not because the new cars are ugly. the reason why today's cars are ugly is because there's a guy who said yes to produce the car in that look! take ferrari with its ugly FF I never saw a ugly ferrari before this one! today's car are getting uglier with years since the car makers focused on mass production and effiency by sterilisation of the cars. the american sports car came back since that the mustang was for a while alone after the death of the camaro/firebird/trans-am. the others american car makers had to do something and of course it's not everyone who like the mustang so they bring back those pony cars (yes pony cars muscle cars are close to a sleeper if you know the roots of them)
okay if you think 7-10K while doing the swap right is cheap than more power to you. You said I made no sense. You should proof read your post before you go and say someone else makes no sense.
Just got my first car this year got a 1998 - Honda Civic EK1 Hatchback and so far im absolutely LOVING it but i cant do anything to the performance yet because im from australia and we have laws on modified cars sadly , what should i work on if i can do performance ? PLEASE NEED HELP TO FIGURE WHAT TO DO FIRST
Well hopefully i inspired a lot of people like these in this video and long before it ever became a scene. I love cars too, but it didn't limit my self to one maker,Growing up 20 years ago i ran Dodge Omni GLH TURBO on the streets, honda than didn't have the power needed, omni didn't stay stock thanks to mopar and others, its still with me now.Next to it sits a 98 e.g. civic ls/vtec r35 turbo/sleeved love both and many others i whish i could own
I own a MS3 and will be moving to a civic type r next. Nothing beats normally aspirated cars, and Honda do it best. Don't care if the civics slower, i want revs and fun!
A 13 1/4 mile isn't bad for a car designed to drift but if all they're are doing is drag racing then they shouldn't be calling anything they're doing jdm
1. I can't think of a single Honda designed for drifting. 2. A car can only drag and still be JDM, JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market, now get the fuck out.
I SEE ALOT OF PPL CRYING BECAUSE THEY DIDNT MENTION THE CAR YOU DRIVE LOL, IS THIS WHY THERES SO MUH HATE , GAY LITTLE 240s , skylines not mentioned? IS THAT WHAT ALL THIS IS ABOUT LMAOOO BOOOHOO
I like this, I actually own a black 8th Gen civic (the one with the weird lights) the only thing I dont like about the video is the fact that the music is too loud during the interviews (Im also a video editor for a living) other than that, I loved it
Interesting. having been into the scene since the early 2000's, I always found it interesting that the JDM guys were so anal about having all these JDM parts that the coined terms like "Ricer," yet fast forward to 2003 when drifting got real big in the US, everybody started snatching up all the 240s, zip ties became an aesthetic qualities, bosuzoku style tailpipes were adopted. all we tend to do is whatever the Japanese are doing at the time.
Name of song at 40.00? Also great video. Honda is most popular for the jdm scene because of their reliability, rare parts, and they are affordable to almost all jdm enthusiasts.
HELP???(: I have a 96 ek hatch. With D16y7 non vTech. I wanna swap it out but don't know to which one. Anyone wanna tell me what I should swap and do to my car? I'd appreciate it thanks.
I'm really sick of people hating on Hondas. They're really good cars and they also have a ton of potential and they're very cheap. I'm working on my second VTEC car. Most likely an integra. My civic is a cool car. Its not riced out or anything. Its just lowered with an intake. But anyway Honda makes great cars I hate that people are missing out because they think "every Honda is a ricer" I'm telling you once you own a Honda it will change your while perspective on Hondas. Trust me.
13 second 1/4 mile times is in fact insanely fast! My stock (with the exception of 1 after market spark plug, JDM obviously) lawn mower could never pull off that 1/4 mile time.
I used to have civic EE (locally assembled in malaysia but similar to civic EF) 4 doors sedan, with SH4 front facelift.it was 20 years old by the time bought it at 2010, yet just d15 carburetor with automatic gearbox. Thought to put b16a inside when I grad and start to earn money. But those fxxker stole my car, and its on a damn April fool day (Ya my car got stolen on April fool...real shitty mood that time). 5years later i bought myself a civic FD2, not a type R, yet enjoyed every angle of it. Most importantly, PARK IT SAFELY!
i am a car enthusiast, i love cars any car you name it. but with the ff owners they think there car is the best(not all but a large amount). i also feel civic owners give jdm a bad rep my opinion.
Davut STweeDuizend JDM doesn't mean products made in Japan it means Products built in Japan for the Japanese Market. I cant stand it when I go to shows and meets and theres JDM wannabes haha
Here in australia civics drivers don't try to be something they're not. They're the cheapest of the cheap japanese cars you can buy here since australia is so close to japan and we get tons of their imports. When r33's and supras go for 5-10k range and civics are 3-5k, civic's know they can't flaunt there power figures or rev there engines without getting teased by someone for sounding like a hairdryer. Stance is NOT a big thing here, cops are very strict on how low cars are, and they're aware of all car meet ups as they happen and appear regularly. Cops already have a field day because theres so much JDM modification, stance would be a coppers wet dream.. if you can't pass the coke can test (fitting a coke can on the lowest part of you car to the road) then you car will be towed. theres meet ups in the states like h2o and hellaflush, NO CAR WOULD LEAVE ROAD LEGAL. As is should be to be honest.. getting beached on curbs is beyond retarded and unsafe. Real JDM is about practicality and performance, If you car can't go places.. it's not practical.
these old ass men should be ashamed of calling themselves tuners and still be driving these little shit buckets called civics. If you want a real *function* race oriented car: Step 1: Throw away your fucking civic Step 2: Buy a real car. If you're broke as fuck and still living with your mom, then trying to build a race car shouldn't be your top priority. Get these shitbag hondas out of the import scene. There's nothing special or rare about them. I've seen countless grandmas driving them. *Way* too damn many.
RossBoss90 Domestic. do·mes·tic.... adjective existing or occurring inside a particular country; not foreign or international. "the current state of US domestic affairs"
13 Years Later... I still love watching this video:
Me too!
I’m still watching it as well can’t remember the first time i found it had to a while!
I think Iv watched it yearly 😐
16 years later i'm back again for another viewing. Owned an RX7 and a R32 GTR, but still come back to the red H.
Same here. ❤❤
These cars are still way cleaner than the widebody stance boi stuff we got going on in 2019...bring JDM back
This is like my 6th time watching this
I love this video. It talks about the JDM scene back in the 90's, and how the fads of the mid 00's were going beyond what the term meant. I miss these days man take me back to 05 or 06
i miss also those days but i still drive a semi-jdm car
10:34 "Yeah definitely I'm an "enthoosiuff" of all cars"
this has one of the greatest soundtracks in a video ever. commissioner gordon killed this. i wish i could get ahold of these wav's/mp3's
Still till this day I can’t find the soundtrack used im this video lol
The real car guys here that actually appreciate this kind of thing aren't gonna sit here and just lay hate on Honda. So what if there not an evo or a wrx and a supra. This is really a ope as documentary and they have some nice looking ass cars on here. I love my 03 Ep3 and STILL want to get a TypeR Integra haha
lecture them and learn the roots that honda started all jdm scene in the USA
Been watching this since it first came out we need a new one
Good video guys!! told the story just how it was. Hondas became a passion and our life style all over the USA, Super Street Magazine, NHRA Battle of the imports, hot import nights THat was life! Builds in our garages, street racing (before ghetto people arrived) made every weekend fun. Think I may even have some old magazines laying around

this is the most meaningful documentary anyone has ever made
when you realized this documentary was made in like 2006...damn.
43:00 My car was looked through while sleeping man, no where is safe bud...
It should be called JDM - Hondas: The pursuit of function.
I used to hate Hondas.I have always liked v8s until I actually drove my little brothers 89_ Honda crx.I fukin fell in love with it.it was a pretty fast fun car. Love this doc - i have a honda civic EK hatchback 98
My best friend just got a Honda civic ek sedan 98 passed the itch onto him
Both of them are ek1's #HondaLife
Still watching this today. The scene today is insane compared to when they where speaking on it. I love it bruh 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥‼️
By far the best JDM doc - wish they would make more - still have my DVD copy =) FF Squad JHPUSA FTW
A JDM documentary without Zs, Supras, Celicas, MR2s, WRXs, Evos, or RXs isn't much of a JDM documentary. Its good for those Honda only guys though, I still enjoyed some of it.
Johnny Nguyen
*Facepalm*

Johnny Nguyen and an acura is a honda.
Johnny Nguyen
oh wtf
This video is what got me into Hondas in 2005/6 love them. This was my guide.
Respect. (Love JDM)
the hellaflush, slammed society, etc became the successor of the ricer boys and are more annoying. However, I like how the cars have style as opposed to what old school riccers had.
i hate how they act...
At least hellaflush doesn't roll up with a stock motor and claim they can beat you but not at the moment because "the Vtec solenoid is going out"
yeah that is true
Love watching this video, i was 28 when I watch this first time, i was driving tuned honda civic, next nissan 200SX RS13-best time of my life...this time will never come back😢 today's automotive/electric cars are going bottom....world is going down...

Solid doc. Been outta the Honda scene since 06. Miss it for sure.
throw back to high school watching this on my chrome book instead of doing work 🫡😂 must’ve been like 2015/16
This video realy inspiered me remineds me of back in the day when my dad had a orange 95 civic ex

2022 still come back to watch this. Gotta love the car scene.
Loved it!
Best video on the internet. I will watch this video at least 3 times a year until I die. Anyone know what he background music is? I’d love to just crank up these tunes and cruise in my eg hatch
the dude with the beany reminds me of Badger from breaking bad xD
19 people take the bus to work
I mean, or we're faster than your Honda. Hell, the bus is probably faster. Take your B series shit elsewhere.
And only one Prelude....Glad to see it was at least on the track.

3rd time watching this, very inspiring
Cool too see Randy from Sunnvale trailerpark was into Jdm cars before he meet Mr Lahey 🤙
Good video. Defiantly number one priority is some kind of security the second you buy ANY car
the back bumper on that integra in the beginning is ugly
I agree it reminds me of somebody who has a really bad underbite or something lol
Its a stock bumper. What do you want?
I own a MS3 and will be moving to a civic type r next. Nothing beats normally aspirated cars, and Honda do it best. Don't care if the civics slower, i want revs and fun!
Not trying to offend anyone but I really wish this was more than just Honda's
i agree.. but a great watch regardless
if you think a 13 second 1/4 mile is an insane time... you might be a ricer.
Cutting 3 seconds off of a Honda's time is pretty great accomplishment hahaha
warren smith yeah that is a great accomplishment but LA GRINGA LS VTEC SAM GARCIA you can see what they are making on monterrey mexico
A 13 1/4 mile isn't bad for a car designed to drift but if all they're are doing is drag racing then they shouldn't be calling anything they're doing jdm
especially an AWD car, people cant blame traction problems unless they are running stupid power.
1. I can't think of a single Honda designed for drifting.
2. A car can only drag and still be JDM, JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market, now get the fuck out.
Here we are decades later and Type-R’s are still disappearing to thieves. Crazy.
I SEE ALOT OF PPL CRYING BECAUSE THEY DIDNT MENTION THE CAR YOU DRIVE LOL, IS THIS WHY THERES SO MUH HATE , GAY LITTLE 240s , skylines not mentioned? IS THAT WHAT ALL THIS IS ABOUT LMAOOO BOOOHOO
Honda Overload!
Great Video ! What is the scene for this type of thing in 2016 ? We are planning on putting on a Vehicle Show ! Please give us tips on this industry !
I like this, I actually own a black 8th Gen civic (the one with the weird lights) the only thing I dont like about the video is the fact that the music is too loud during the interviews (Im also a video editor for a living) other than that, I loved it
"Those are my motherfuckin wheels" I loled at that part.
This is truly da nastiest nostalgic film
Great video, Thx
I watched some much of these today.... JDM!
initial d, drift bible, and my dad got me hook.
Best video of all time
3;30am And Mind Blown
Awsome film! 6th Gen Acoord F22A1
I'm not a huge honda guy or anything but this was still an interesting film. It's hard to hear about others' cars being stolen and not get angry.
Hi, can someone provide me the track list of this movie.
thanks.
Interesting. having been into the scene since the early 2000's, I always found it interesting that the JDM guys were so anal about having all these JDM parts that the coined terms like "Ricer," yet fast forward to 2003 when drifting got real big in the US, everybody started snatching up all the 240s, zip ties became an aesthetic qualities, bosuzoku style tailpipes were adopted. all we tend to do is whatever the Japanese are doing at the time.
can anyone tell me what that opening track is?
Trust me.
how you get the honda symble on the top of ur hand ?
13 second 1/4 mile times is in fact insanely fast! My stock (with the exception of 1 after market spark plug, JDM obviously) lawn mower could never pull off that 1/4 mile time.
someone really needs to do a jdm documentary in new Zealand.
respect to Hondas, but wheres the other import coverage? DSM, MR2 turbo, WRX, EVO????
This was a honda documentary from 2005
Best magazine ever... I just my old car lol.
the gold eg is still around and hits the track
4 bangers are the shizzzzz
i am a car enthusiast, i love cars any car you name it. but with the ff owners they think there car is the best(not all but a large amount). i also feel civic owners give jdm a bad rep my opinion.
its sad that jdm now means like 90% hondas.
way 2 many hondas. just cuz you have a honda with a cold air intake doesnt mean youre a jdm tuner. ugh.
If you want a real *function* race oriented car:
Step 1: Throw away your fucking civic
Step 2: Buy a real car.
If you're broke as fuck and still living with your mom, then trying to build a race car shouldn't be your top priority.
Get these shitbag hondas out of the import scene. There's nothing special or rare about them. I've seen countless grandmas driving them. *Way* too damn many.
s8tank jdm is japanese domestic market yah bean head
