They're performance artists tho. They're not just "identifying as a mermaid" like a lot of people do with other things. There are places that do mermaid shows for tourists and they hire people who have trained to specialize in that specific performance art.
Yes, I watched a short documentary about it. It was sort of cool. People can be obsessive (and emotional) about it as a profession but that doesn’t mean they think mermaid is their identity.
Yes there's a reason God brought a flood ( this isn't new) history repeats itself except this time God gives us a choice Jesus or this evil toxicity because he loves us although we definitely aren't worthy.
Monty Python was prophetic with its skit about the man who thought he was a mouse. But they shouldn’t have stopped at “furries,” as now, we have “slimies”… or would that be, “scalies”?
I don’t know who this woman is but if she truly believes she is a mermaid, this is probably an example of someone with Dissociative identity disorder (DID). DID occurs as a result of severe and complex childhood trauma before the brain is developed. The psyche creates other identities within an individuals in an attempt to shield other parts of the person from the impact of having awareness of traumatic experiences. It involves amnesiac barriers between identities so one identity can live normal life and the other(s) can hold the reality of the trauma. A child’s brain can come up with identities like mermaids to protect the psyche from the full impact of trauma or to forget the trauma all together. I heard a woman talk about the function of a mermaid part she had that originally developed to help her stay alive while she was being drowned as a child. She explained that her kid brain came up with the idea that she was a mermaid and that it helped her stay calm and survive attempted drowning by an abuser. She’s not actually a mermaid obviously but some part of her believes she is a mermaid for a specific protective reason. This woman’s mermaid identity comes to the forefront as an adult just to allow her to shower because water is so triggering for this person (obviously). Her psyche has adopted the belief that she is a mermaid when she gets in the shower which is illogical and obviously not true but the belief helps her system cope with the trauma trigger and function enough to shower. These imaginative identities function as a coping mechanism for people who when they were children required a way to dissociate from their experience in an attempt to survive horrific abuse typically. It’s very sad. These are adults whose psyches were fractured as children. DID can also develop from enduring incest, child sexual abuse, prolonged medical treatments, ritual abuse, other forms of chronic or severe abuse and neglect, etc. These people need our prayers 🙏🏻
I know some people are professional mermaids which I see the same as being a professional performer. But being a performer and identifying as mermaid are different things.
When I was 9, I got one of those swimming mermaid tails for when you’re at the pool. I saved up my money from doing odds and ends chores.. what in the world is this grown woman talking about.. it’s cute when you’re 9… not when you remember the 1900s. Yes I know my username is little mermaid, I’ve always loved the Disney movie, yes I was the little girl at the pool who’d ask you to play mermaids, no I do not consider it a “community” just a fun thing for CHILDREN, and even then it’s make believe and imagination not ur literal IdEnTiTy why is everyone fighting to be a minority or be oppressed in todays society
I'm going to push back on this one, only because I have a friend who is a strong, biblical Christian, a happily married mom of three who is homeschooling her children--and she has several silicone tails. She LOVES to swim with her mermaid tail. She does not believe for one second that she's a mermaid, but she does enjoy swimming with a tail. While I can't speak for the woman in this video or the mermaid community, I can say that like with almost everything, there are exceptions, and aside from hard-core truths, like men can't become women, women can't become mermaids, etc., we can't tell people to "grow up" and belittle their harmless hobby just because we think they should have outgrown it.
Get real… have you ever heard of an adult pretending to be a mermaid or anything else? It’s delusional, sick and twisted. It’s not a hobby, it’s mental illness and emotional immaturity and obviously spiritual depravity.
@@HeatherShelton-yq1il yes, this is what it was. She literally went out of her way to make this video about a supposed real conversation she had online, where she still finds a reason to complain after someone gave her a compliment. The whole thing is just really bizarre.

I don't know Sounds fishy to me!
😂
Most definitely
And the odor!!
Why ? Oh why??? Can people just grow up already!!!
Because that would require them to actually work & be accountable for their actions & that also takes work.

Yes! I just made the same point. It's just their profession.
That’s a relief 😅

Yes. Perpetual adolescence. That’s exactly it. Sometimes even perpetual toddlerhood, in severe cases.
Lol! She thinks she's fostering word peace.
What even is that? She looks to be over 18, which mean she VOTES. She thinks she is a mermaid, and she votes. Yikes.
Good indicator of how she votes 😅
I don't know I think this comment is a bit dismissive. She worked hard for that silicone tail and it wasn't just luck, guys.

SeaWorld needs to free the animals and take these people in. I’d sleep better

my five year old has a mermaid tail for the pool, she loves it lol but even she knows she's not a mermaid
Have you asked her though? Bc that's pretty dismissive 😂jk
Has the world gone absolutely crazy????

Lord, have mercy. The internet has allowed the banding together of the most unhinged
This is why people are getting dumber.
"Mermaid community" ???
You are so right on!
Pathetic.
Or the hobby horse "community".
I demand Mermaid UFC fights.
Halle Bailey could probably figure it out.
What is wrong with people it gets worse everyday 😂
Mermaids attacking men in Zimbabwe
Splash you Allie! SPLASH YOU! (JK, I love you and you're the best).
She should realize that we live in reality, not fantasy land. Allie, I'm glad you're teaching these lunatics a lesson
Even as a Child, I never fantasized being a mermaid!!
At least mermaids can't get pregnant.
So confused. Feel so sorry for this young woman.
Since when is a five year old considered a toddler??
She should have said your so privileged to have a tail. 😂

This and Allie's response are both likely depending on the individual. Very good responses, both.
I personally want to see a mermaid war

Mermaids is a charity that helps Trans kids!😊🏳️🌈🌈
I enjoy the woman who claims she is a fairy.
I think their could be a demonic side to mermaids and sirens, no surprise it's become very popular.
Lol well these people don't believe they are real mermaids but that's their profession.
They do shows etc as mermaids for kids.
I can't 😂
Y'all need to fight more 😂

I would say that one major difference is that Allie’s videos are not based on made up childish fantasies.
The person in the video was also hypersensitive about someone’s NICE comments about her “tail” online
