Useful video, Wolfie! Thank you for creating it… you mentioned things that I’ve never heard before and from real life experience. Just subscribed and will be following your hike. Planning on my AT thru within the next few years and your points have now been filed away. Happy trails!
Enjoyed this very much. Helps a lot. My wife and I are planning and gearing up for an AT NOBO thru hike beginning in March of 2026. Live in Ohio. Doing winter hikes now, planning a shakedown on the AT in early summer beginning at Harpers Ferry. Have a great hike! Will be following.
@ Yes. We have day hiked sections of it. 8 to 12 miles at a time. Great trail. There are also some really good moderate difficulty 6 to 20 mile trails in our local area as well. Happy Hiking! Stay safe.
Shakedown hikes are so important, till you know you're dialed in. I done lots of long weekends and week long backpacking on the Allegheny and other trails in West Virginia. This year I thru hiked the Foothills Trail and all my gear worked out perfect. The only thing I have trouble with is food, I still always take to much. Good luck and have fun, I'll be following ya.
Couple things about night hiking...I prefer to do so in the morning so if the going is difficult you can just go slow & careful until sunrise. Also, be careful in the fog or fine snow. I once had conditions with visibility of no more than 15'. Had to be careful just finding my way from the bear box back to the shelter. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip on where to pickup cheap rain gear.
Excited for your journey!

@@charlescooper4979 the Wilderness section of the Buckeye trail would be a great place to train and test gear

@@5StackHikes nice to hear from. I followed you on your entire journey. Thanks for the advice.
Good advice on cooking system
Consider looking into a Nalgene Canteen as a pee bottle, They're light, clear, and slightly larger.
Good advice! Just a few days until we are out there!!! Hopefully we will run into each other at some point! Safe travels!!!
I am sure we will bump into each other on the trail at some point. Happy trails!
That's a good Idea for a pee bottle. I use a Gatorade bottle, but that takes space.
@@johnwilbur7707, I know others (M & F) use a 1L wide mouth Nalgene bag/soft flask. Light, crushable, for volume, easier access, etc.
Very helpful "lessons learned" especially re: stove efficiency in winter. Thanks and happy trails!
I won't be sad to see the extra weight go come spring.
Good lessons learned.
I will be there on the 2nd. I might see your foot prints good luck
I am sure you will catch me at some point
I have 2 MULTI-Charging cables that have 3 ends, as well as an adaptor that clips on for my Garmin watch. Works great and fast charging
