@@timecapsule5604 yeah plus it had Syd Mead's concept art on CLV pause frames etc. It was awesome. It's what made me want to get a LD player.

Criterion’s first two laserdiscs, released in 84/85 were Citizen Kane and King Kong (33)! It was fabulous!
Citizen Kane has already gotten a 4K release from them! I pray that King Kong gets the same attention for its 90th anniversary this year

Criterion popularized the widescreen format for home video. Laserdisc owners started enjoying the proper aspect ratio and non-cropped image for their movies years before the average public did, primarily because of Criterion. Criterion also was the first to remaster video and audio by going back to the original film elements and mastering their product from the best available sources. They would use interpositives to produce their releases from (which are struck from the original camera negative), not an exhibition print which is a copy of a copy. No other company at the time could compete with a Criterion release in terms of picture and sound quality. VHS especially could not compete with the best laserdisc releases. Criterion was the Rolls Royce of home video. You really paid for this, though. A Criterion laserdisc, single disc, cost $49.95 in the mid-90s. That's about $98 today....for one movie. If your movie was on two discs, that was about $89.95. That's around $175 today. With the advent of DVD, however, Criterion lost a lot of their competitive edge as a DVD from the major studios looked essentially as good as a Criterion DVD. Criterion is still highly regarded, but the wide advantage they had back in the day is essentially gone as other studios basically matched Criterion's quality.

Criterion's release of "La Strada" and "Breaker Morant" are outstanding. But sadly, their Bluray edition of La Strada doesn't include the same English dubbed soundtrack as did their Laserdisc version.

Does anyone how to access the most definitive list of upcoming 4K Criterion releases?

I have about 20 criterion discs, for the money they dont give you a digital code for the movie. They are movies of a high calibre, and representative of the best on films.
