- Today we check out the Stihl MS 500i Chainsaw, I believe this has been the most talked about saw ever! So far it has lived up to all the hype! This saw is a beast! Powerful, near instant acceleration, unbelievable power to weight ratio.

My fiancé heard most of this video... after it was over & my coffee was low...she gave me the look, and said, “yes you can have one” She’s a keeper!!
Yes she is!
Does she have a sister??
The key word was fiancée. Still hasn’t got you locked in, yet....😂
...yeah, but, does she know that it is $1,400 yet?
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans I have had this chainsaw for over a month and i had a question about yours have you has your air filter been seating properly because mine has not been and has been allowing fine saw dust in and around the intake and mine has been hard to start it takes 7 pulls when it is cold to get it to start. even after only letting it cool down for 10 to 20 minutes it takes 3 pulls to get it to go mine so far has been nothing but problems for me. There is one thing i can say about it is that it does have amazing power. Maybe you could take a look at the intake after you use yours more? I have talked to some people that have had the saw but they are not have any problems i am the only person that has been having so many problems it seems i bought a defective saw witch sucks because it was NOT CHEAP! Anyway great video keep up the good work.
That’s the kind of saw you’d wash and wax like a sports car and of course show everyone who comes to visit even the mailman
NOTICE No cameras were injured in the filming of this video.
LOL!!!
I used a 660 arctic stihl for years and loved it. Today I dropped two big trees with my son-in law’s 500i with 32 in bar. Instant torque, took a bit of getting used to but bye the time I finished I was in love too.
Look at that bar. Now Mike can Stand Up And Buck like Buckin Billy has been telling him too 😂
Mike not in the same class as billy
I've used both Stihl and Husqvarna. Both companies make great saws, so you can't go wrong with either one. I settled on the Husqvarna years ago and have never regretted it. I have a 450 18" bar for small trees and limbs, and the 395 XP 36" bar for the big stuff. That saw is a beast. Stay safe, Mike!
I have run mine for about a month and absolutely love it. I have the 661 and the 261, with a bunch more in various sizes. i did find that the pre-filter for the 661 is a great addition, the skid plate and dawgs are next. great video!
Thanks for telling new people about Stanley. I miss Stanley, he was the best. GREAT to be out in the woods cutting down a tree, the finer things in life.
I just picked up one of these and it is freaking FANTASTIC. If you get that chain sharp and bury it in wood it will eat it. If you want to just limb or buck standing up it will spin that chain (and oil it) without any issues. It's about as much saw as I can handle, if I was a bigger guy maybe I would try something else, but this is about the limit.
Good morning Mike and Melissa. Great day for getting the new saw to work. That saw is a beast. WOW !! Sounds super right from the get go. You will be spoiled with a selection of blades and chains. Thanks for sharing with us, be safe out there and keep having fun. 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This has been a great birthday month for mike. Drone, level, chainsaw, great family, new bldg. You guys are the best.
Awesome saw Mike, i need to see about getting that one. Love seeing your property love the trees colors and thanks for sharing
I have bad circulation so my hands get cold fast too. I have found mittens keep my hands alot warmer. I use gloves that have a mitten that pulls over regular glove.
Mike - Thanks for sharing this saw with us. I would agree it's gonna be a winner. Stay safe, and stay strong. Blessings to you, Melissa, and the family. Hi to Hunter, Hannah, and Eva.
Mike Weve had our 500 I for about a year Stan my partner brought them back from Germany when he went to see his parents over there, that saw can cut upside down we use the 36 inch bars its fast just because of the trees we have, you will love it your other saws will be jealous oh by the way when its down in the minus 30 to 50 below two pulls it starts right up our otther saws dont think so unless yo uh take them out of a very warm truck that the heater has been blowing on them so others just sit in shed now hardly ever used if ever why fight them when the 500I replaced them all
😀 It really is an awesome saw! I absolutely love mine! I was running a 16” bar on mine today - great fun 😀
Very nice saw, you gave it quite a modeling job on the picnic table.
I just use Fleece gloves on the deer stand. I've used the Thinsulate lined gloves before and always go back to my Fleece gloves for warmth.
More rain coming for us in Southern IL.
Great looking Saw, I love the way it goes into wood. Love my Stihl's
Awesome review Mike! I was lucky enough to stumble upon a dealer who had just got 4 MS500i'sthat morning. I opted for the 28 light bar and have since ordered a 32 light. This saw continues to impress and will only get better with time. Keep up the good stuff! Give Hunter a fist bump and I hope your tripod survived. Lol
PERFECT INTRO! That saw looks awesome!!! Thank you for the review. If it isn’t raining here it is overcast for the most part. Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
I just bought one at Ag Pro in Flemingsburg on Friday. Strictly based on your review. I can't wait to start using it. Thanks.
Nice cutting rig!👍 Thanks Mike and Melissa ! 💕
Ive had my eye on this saw since i got my 310 and am glad its finally made it over seas for us to finally get. I havent heard bad things about this one.
Hey Mike your gonna love that saw . I got one a couple of weeks ago and i think you'll find it will liven up even more after a few tanks of fuel . First thing i did though was got rid of the stock spikes. I put on a set of larger spikes a chain roller catcher and put a 25" light weight bar on her . The larger spikes keep the saw from tipping forward when you set it down too . If you want a set of spikes the sthil part # is 1122 664 0501 and 1122 664 0506 and i don't recall the # for the chain catcher . Hope you enjoy the 500i as much as i have .
We just added a 500i to the collection last week. 20” bar and skip chain has it cutting great. Super light and powerful saw. Looking forward to putting it to good use this cutting season!
Nothing like a Stihl chain saw. I grew up in the woods. I have run husky and I ran stihl. No comparison. Stihl is by far the better brand.
I’m jealous. Hope the thing runs better than you expect!
Love my 500i, was lucky to get one of the first to land in Australia. Just a good all round and easy to live with saw
Think i’ll be heading in same direction, i’ve got an old Jonsared 111S , its like using a big block of lead to handle, so something much lighter, smaller cc yet still a great workhorse would be great to get.
Awesome saw. I'm glad to hear that it was worth the wait. Stihl never disappoints.
Wait until the electronics fail......you will be disappointed.....
Trust me there's 5 things that will stop this saw before you even get it started....that no other saws have.....
Primer bulbs wear out saw stops
Fuel pump failure saw stops
High pressure lines fail saw stops
C omputer calibration saw stops.....
This saw will be everyone's nightmare in 3 yrs
The saw I really anticipate from Stihl is bringing back the MS200T .
Great saw. I’m lucky to have one. It rips
Oh yes please!!!!
Me and dad have 5 between us!
as someone who has never used one please explain why the 200 is better
@@viperstrike3827 it’s a tree climbing chainsaw
When it gets real cold I use glove liners, the silver ones from Bass Pro Shop along with their mittens. I plow snow in an open station BX2360 and the keep my hand very warm so I can stay out all day. I also wear the Red Head brand of insulated bibs and coat. Yes I do put on extra layers underneath but at least I'm warm
I have had a silver set and a gold set of very similar glove liners for at least a really long time. Use them under my motorcycle gloves and under my work gloves, sawing in the wettest, coldest parts of winter. They work. I also have a set of “snow” gloves that have a pocket for a Hot Hands on the back of the Gortex lined glove.
Mike totally agree with you great saw. I’ve had mind for a month.
Just bought the 500i so far seems nice I live in Canada and do fuel management with the chainsaw tank for tank lasts about 20 minutes for me
Always awesome videos and cool watching you guys living the dream!!!
Love that saw!!! I love my Stihl saw- just not that one, yet.
Good morinig everyone. Not much going on here today, having Zoom training with Stihl this moringin then it is off to the Stihl store to knock out more service work. Stay safe, be humble & kind and Have a day!
I froze my fingers as a child, so cold weather is always a problem. One of the warmest and most flexible gloves I ever used were a simple wool liner and a leather shell.Color choices were green liner and black shell, the army was not fashion aware. These days I always look for a soft fleece type lining, Carrhart and Well Lamont have several available.
Wow! That’s an awesome saw. I just can’t let loose of my old 029 Super. As of this year, she’s old enough to drink legally, so she’s just getting started. 😁
Best gloves I have are LL Bean tough grip with Thinsulate. They are not too padded and keep your hands warm even when soaked in slushy wet snow. I use them mainly for snow blowing and shoveling.
I really like the new Stihl 5000i . For Melissa my recommendation for gloves are the Milwaukee impact gloves. They have enough padding to absorb the impact and also provides a level of warmth. Sorry to hear of the loss of your Stanley. We have a 12 year old Golden retriever and she is a lovable part of the family.
That looks like one heck of a saw there Mike! As for gloves Melissa, I love my Kincos I get all styles and thicknesses from work and they each serve a purpose for different activities, those warm grips are great when you need a little extra finger dexterity!
Awesome looking saw,
I have a 461 w/ a 25 and a 18 inch bar. Love the Still,
Thanks for the review, now my mouth is watering for a 500i
Good morning from NC! As far as warm gloves go, my go-to is hunting suppliers. They might be too bulky for you though. Or not wear well under heavy use. But archery gloves might have a solution. I’m in a truck bed cover building project. Can’t buy a shell in time for my deer hunting trip to the western Ozarks, so I needed a cap secure enough for an overnight at a hotel. I’m making a flat cover like a Tonneau. It’s temporary but I might keep it for a while even after I get the shell. We’ll see.
I’m envious, Mike. You get all the coolest toys! Great Video!
Great review, Thank You.
I got lucky and a random Stihl dealer had one three hours away after 20 phone calls of looking for one. Just got it a week ago and now feel officially ready for hurricane season in Biloxi, Mississippi. Going to be a huge upgrade from my Echo Timberwolf.
Melissa. I bought some north star deerskin Sherpa lined mittens off Amazon. They definitely are warm
Love the looks of the MS500i! I wished I could afford one, kind of expensive!
A LOT expensive
Morning Morgan's. All caught up again. Looking like little sleep again.. Mike thanks for the review. Not sure my back could handle the weight of the saw? Hope all are well. Be safe. Tell family hello and have a day!
Nice saw Mike. Thanks for the look at it.
We have a horse boarding farm and we feed every morning around 6AM. I’ve tried a lot of gloves. What I found to keep warm is two pair of brown Jersey gloves. I put one inside the other. You can buy them by the dozen. You’ll be surprised. I carry an extra pair in my jacket pocket in case the get wet.
Nice Mike! I got the MS 462 C-M last year which is electronically controlled ignition and fuel mixture. The thing is a monster on power, comes on faster than any normally carburated engine and is super light. I use it more than my 310 now.
500 is just one tad of madness above that...
hat I do is put on a pair of the light blue Latex gloves on prior to putting on my normal gloves (either for work or play). This insulates my hands, and keeps them from getting wet. Also it keeps the smells (from the various gloves, chain saw fumes, wood splitter fumes/oil, etc.) from stinking up my hands. One other benefit is that they also act as a shock absorber for the vibration from the machines. This keeps my hands from cramping up while working.
184k congratulations guys
Watched several videos on the saw, and seems harder to start than the normal, looks like a great saw. Keep safe.
Great vlog Mike 🇺🇲 I really enjoyed this video I have been hearing alot about this saw I watch every day from Florence Alabama 🇺🇲
What a great saw! I just got the Stihl MS 261 C-M with a 18” bar and I love it. Great videos Morgan’s!
I have an MS 261 myself! And I absolutely love that saw! But would I get the MS 500 I if I had the cash to get it? Absolutely! But unfortunately I do not have the cash for it!
There’s one on eBay for 800.00
@@timeallen6900 Is it used or brand new? I’m kind of questioning of it being on eBay because normally a saw like the MS 500I with an 18 inch bar which is the one I would get is about brand new 1350
Mike, now that you've had a month or so of using the new 500i, I was just wondering do you use your MS261 and 362 as much now, or do you prefer to reach for the 500i these days? I do enjoy this channel immensely and I hope you and the family have a very Happy New Year
Went into a napa in northern Ontario Canada looking to buy some chains for my 291c and walked out with the 500i can't wait to run it!!!
Great saw, now I got to go get my saw out and cut some wood...lol. Enjoy your videos Mike, stay safe and have a blessed day.
Melissa, I too have poor circulation in my hands and use Tillman 865 Top Grain Deerskin Thinsulate Lined Winter Gloves.
Bellingham wonder grip gloves! Are pretty awesome! I love them! They are not stylish.
But then again I'm a big hairy fella so I don't worry about style much! 😂
I used to buy the kinco frost breakers, but just the slightest amount of gas or diesel touched then they dried right out!
These Bellingham wonder grips are pretty warm and you can beat on them and submerge them in fuel if need be up to the wrist anyway!
I buy them a dozen pair at a time everyone gets them for Christmas gifts!
I have got 2 solid years out of my last new pair, and they will get me through this winter to.
I knew you would let me know when to go looking for my 500i Mike!
I got a ms461 early this year (2020) if the 500I was in stock I would have gotten it..
But maybe in a few years I will get one. So fsr I am definitely happy with my ms461.
Nice saw would like to get my hands on it,run rings around my old 039 but it has be a great saw for around 30 years. Not sure about mikes thought on the grapple but I liked the other one better
I am really impressed with this chainsaw. I have seen this prompted by by two brothers from Sweden and both race about it. Haven't seen it in our store yet. I like the fact you can use different bar length.
I hope Sthil will use the fuel injection on all their chainsaws to help prevent flooding. The MS 250 is the one that has a tenancy to flood.
Thanks for showing this chainsaw.
Great video Mike glad to see you’re wearing safety equipment.
when I have a small job to do , and i feel my brain telling me that I don't need to put those pants on, I think that I have never seen mike NOT have his on, and I do the right thing and PUT THEM ON.
I run a Stihl 361, and also a G444 (ms440). I have found I love the 28" bar! no more bending over, no noticable power loss over the 25", just that extra couple inches keep my back super happy!
I own a 361, very powerful an lighter weight saw. We have a 311 at work weighs more than 361. Had the option of heated handle when I bought it. Did not spend the extra for heated handle.
@@ddorn04 I wouldnt spend the money on a heated handle either, if you are working, you are plenty warm. I have a 361 pro here on the homestead, my second favorite saw I have ever owned! it is always just such a pleasure to run it! if it only had a full wrap handle (I maight buy 1 for it) I think it would be a strong runner against my favorite..
i have my lineup of my saws in several of my videos, on Helmig Homestead. along with some head to head saw cut offs... the 361 is one of them, lost sadly, but I still love that saw! LOL
Good fall and good review
Just used my new Stihl today with great results. Ken Ross B.C.Canada
Oh my the 500i. I admit my envy about Mike’s new toy took a bit of shine off my excitement about my brand new Stihl MS 291 (20” bar) 😆
Nice chainsaw, Mike! I know that feeling of a new chainsaw, like a kid on Christmas day. Melissa this may not meet the criteria but I love White Ox gloves with the elastic band for firewood, splitting, cutting, stacking. They work great for me.
August Hunicke just did a review of these saws with an exhaust from Westcoast Muscle Saws and a Silvey square grind chain I believe ? Holy cow did that thing cut ! Great video, thumbs up.
nice saw , nice features!... thanks 4 video. be kind..
It is still fun to hear Stanley stories. My dog wouldn’t come in right away when I called her. She ran away just like Stanley would have.
Melissa, usually the gloves with the rubber you can at least swipe the screen. However I think with any glove for heat purpose you will have to remove the glove for texting.... Unless... You go to a cabelas or a hunting store and look for gloves that have various trigger finger type gloves. Also keep hand warmers in your pockets.
Kinco gloves are really good. They keep your hands nice and warm!
Melissa, my hands would always get cold until I bought the gloves I have now about 10 years ago from L.L.Bean, the are a soft thick leather on the palm and finger area where you would take hole of something the rest of the outside of the glove is thick soft wool, the inside I don't know what it is but is is so soft, my hands have actually got hot in my gloves on some very cold and windy days.
Just bought one 20" bar with ripping and crosscut chain 1800
Youngstown gloves! They're the best ones I've ever found!
I picked up a ms462 earlier this week but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I inquired about the 500i and my dealer said it would be a while before they could get one in. They have a bunch of saws backordered, I guess due to the large fires out west and all the storm damage down south and up here in New England they're having trouble getting some models in and keeping them in stock..
Good morning Morgan family ☕️ have a blessed day
I love mine! I have found I like the 25" bar. I was going to slap a 28" on it but I find I can stand up and buck with the 25 and I'm comfortable falling with the 25. Fantastic saw!
"Stand up and Buck!" #buckingexperiance !
Buckin would be proud
Sweet have to look into this one
Have tested the 500i for some 50 hours falling here in Sweden. It's a pretty good sturdy saw and easy to use. Fuel efficient and low emissions, especially on Aspen fuel. But as a born Husqvarna guy i had to return it back! :D Now I'm waiting for the new 2021 bigger Husky's to try them out. Have a good morning or afternoon as it is here in Sweden.
Mike - back in AUS this is my "go to" saw..... yeah a bit pricey, best bang for buck imho - awesome piece of equipment
Melissa, look for a glove made with "Thinsulate" find the style you like.. I'm on blood thinners for the last few years and my hands get SO Cold. I have purchased 2 pairs because my little dog hid one of them. I eventually found it so now I have 2 pairs. I love them.
"Thin-su-late" is a patented material used in the glove so you can find a style that appeals to you. Just put it in the Amazon store Search. I know you will them. Just follow the instructions on measuring your hand so you get the right fit. I have a feeling that Mike is stubborn, so measure his hand when he is asleep and get him a pair, probably a pair with a leather grip. Last night when I walked my Dog (2 am ) I asked ALEXA the temperature and it was 11 degrees.
I love your channel.
This saw sounds like the 070AV I used to use on my parents farm many years ago. That one was 100cc and heavy but strong
It looks nice. It cuts good.
The more you run that saw the more you'll find wood to cut with it...lol...every time I run mine I can't wait to cut more. It's tough to put down.
As far as gloves check out the Wells Lamont Cold Weather Grips. 👍
Speaking from experience??😁👍
Yes the wells gloves are great for warmth and being able to work with smaller objects, plus they have touch screen finger tips.
Ohhhhh yeah! Still want my ms462, but that 500 is awesome.
That MS500i went through that Oak fast. Never seen a factory saw cut like that. Thanks Mike
Guess you've never watched any husky vids then?
Bought one in Sept. The more I use it the more I like it.
I really like this chainsaw, I own 2 others stihl and a jonsered, but the best one still my husky 395xp... a true power chainsaw...
Wicked saw! Love it.
Enjoy sir
The first time l saw a “whoops” on any of your videos with the camera knock down...like your ‘keeping it real’, Mike
Butch from Florence Texas
It would have been better if the camera was shooting!
Good Morning all! For when I am out in the winter woods doing Search and Rescue with my dogs I use Outdoor Research gloves. They are incredibly warm. Down side is they are not work gloves but I do believe they have a lifetime warranty on them. I paid about $70 for them. Love the new saw Mike! How many saws do you own now? I'm up to 5 at the moment but I do have my eyes set on 2 or 3 more. When Husqvarna comes out with their version of the 500I I suppose I will add that to the list too!
Hey, there, BBA! 22-year SAR K-9 handler here, now retired. Border Collies. And my apiary was Black Wolf Bees - named for our latest dog! 🐝
💥 Nice stop motion effect! That saw is very nice, takes off super quick. Melissa needs some good choppers as we call them here in MN.
*Keep on tractoring!*
Good morning Jon.
Good morning guys have fun day from Allen and Brenda from canada New Brunswick nice saw wow
I like Kinco. They have ones that look similar to work gloves . They are softer though , durable , lined inside and have that feel of leather .
I always enjoy your videos
I've had mine for 18 months now, its a great saw. I use it primarily for blocking out chainsaw carvings (shameless plug, dervishcarving on facebook :)). Its a FANTASTIC saw, instant response, superb cutting speed with a 21inch and a 36 inch bar. Love it. It has a couple of downsides though, the stihl bar is terrible (they always are) but thats easy to fix. The saw goes through fuel very quickly which isnt surprising given its rev speed, but that means you also need to clean the air filter regularly. I knock out the airfilter after every 2 or 3 refuels. Keep an eye on this, if it gets clogged your going to damage your saw. Also keep in mind the chain is running way faster than most normal saws, your chaps etc are probably not rated for the speed so you might want to think about that. Hands down the best £1k i spent last year though, definitely worth it.
