I've got one, first one for me. Always used gas, but was pleased with the results. My first cut was a pecan tree about 13 to 20". Carried it by the stihl dealer and they took pictures for their wall. Be safe! Beach, NC. Big I see lots of bowls and goblets in that cherry!

Mike, I like Stihl, Echo and Husqvarna. My favorite is Husqvarna. My aunt and uncle bought me the 120i this past Christmas. It is sweet! I have the older 340 and 350 gas powered saws, I love Husqvarna. The 120i has a nice 14 inch, .043 gauge bar and 3/8'' pinch chain, I'm amazed and so happy with it. I love the savE economy button. It slows the chain speed, conserving battery power but doesn't reduced to power of the machine. Two weeks ago, I fell a "hung up" sixty foot balsam fir, limbed and bucked it into twelve inch logs. 10 inches or so at the base. All in one charge with a little juice left in the battery. The third and final light was blinking but it had life left. It made a great gift!
I just got the smaller version of this saw a couple of weeks ago. Just to clean up fallen limbs and do some trimming. So far, I love it. Haven't used a full battery yet though. I was excited to see your review. Always enjoy your videos. God bless your family.
i use husqwarna battery chainsaw. i like no vibration, no loud saund. it cost a lot,but work has become more pleasant.

Nice video. At my older home this would’ve been perfect for me. My needs were few and far between so I just borrowed my fathers saw occasionally. Now I’ve got some land and cut a few cords a year so it’s a gas saw for me but this was pretty impressive. Thanks for doing it

I got the 80 volt Kobalt and absolutely love it . It cuts fast and smoothly (Mostly Oak Logs). I asked my brother about the RPM's. I said that I didn't think it goes as fast as a gas powered chain saw. He agreed with that but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Goes through hardwood like butter. I wonder if the slower RPM would give less kickback if you accidentally bury the tip. I had an uncle 30 years ago whose blade kicked back and hit him in the face. It tore his lip up. He was lucky that was all it did. He had a shorter blade which is why I went with the 18" blade. Hearing about what happened to him has always made me nervous about using a chainsaw but I have really enjoyed using this tool. I haven't had it jump up at all. I love the automatic oilier because as a newbie I would always wonder if I'm using the right amount. Mike, would love to hear your thoughts on this when using a gas one as well as adjusting chain tightness. Heck, maybe they all use an auto oilier now - not sure. I thought this machine would be cleaner than a gas powered one with the advantage of being able to throw it in my truck and not having it leak all over. I did find a small puddle of oil under it in my garage even though this is a new product for me. Not sure if it came off the bar or if they just tend to leak. So if you have nice carpets in your truck, you'll need to throw a blanket under it or figure out some kind of case that will keep it from messing up your truck. PS. Love not having to mix gas/oil, keep separate gas containers, have plugs get fouled, etc. I bring an extra battery with me from my weed whacker and throw them both on the charger when I'm done. Very nice.
It’s a bit foggy here in the bluegrass but this to shall pass. It’s going to be a beautiful day....in the meantime it’s a great morning to watch Outdoors with the Morgan’s. I bought one of those saws with a spare battery. I rarely need the spare.
Great video. Been thinking about a battery saw for limbing and brush clean up. I agree would be perfect for a quick session after work instead of hauling out the gas saw. Stay safe and be well!

Since most of my cordless tools are Milwaukee. I bought the 18 volt 16 in Milwaukee saw. Very pleased with it.

I have a Stihl MSA140c and it "lives" in my campervan, for all the traveling needs. I also have 3 larger petrol/(gas to you) chainsaws that I use for cutting my home firewood in the field. But I can easily cut a 6x4 trailer load of wood with the MSA140. I carry 2 batteries just in case, but they are quite expensive.
I was skeptical of the battery powered blowers and chain saws until I saw you guys using them, I have both now and love them. I went with the 40v Ryobi blower and 14" chain saw. I love the instant on/off, less noise, and convenience. I don't use the chainsaw for large jobs but it's great for small / quick jobs like limbing / storm cleanup. They also are much less intimidating for the females, especially the chainsaw.
Same here. I had the 18V Ryobi batteries so that’s what I bought. I’m looking forward to using it this hunting season as a ride along saw.
Thats my main complaint with electric saws... they're really only good for limbing and very small stuff. The cost for the saw + batteries puts them at pro level saw pricing, which do the job significantly faster and are built significantly stronger. I also feel like electric saws dull chains much quicker because they are taking much finer chips/more passes required.
The battery stuff is not bad at all! They are making new battery’s
I cut a 24 inch poplar tree down the other day with my ryobi 14 inch chainsaw. It's capable of a lot more than we give it credit for. I almost never use my gas saws anymore.
There is a privately owned place i prefer to camp at these days. They frown on using a chainsaw. But I always find dead/fallen logs that are waiting to be cleaned up or cut to burn. The electric saw is quiet and helps both me and the property owner.
A friend let me borrow a cheap soft metal axe which allowed me to cut a few pieces that lasted for 12 hours. But it was a lot of effort and I already had split logs. This is the answer.

I have a few Stihl 36V tools including the MSA200C chainsaw and am impressed with the overall build quality and performance. Since I moved house 5 years ago I've had little use for the chainsaw and I might try to sell it - and the FSA 85 line trimmer for which I have no further use.
The tools I use regularly are the HLA 85 and HSA 66 hedgers. These are the bees knees. Exceptional performance, ergonomics and build quality when compared to those sold by brands which specialise in drills, drivers and the like. In fact I enjoy working with these tools so much that I almost wish I had a few high trees so that I could justify buying the 36V pole pruner!
However my battery [AP 300] failed after 2 years. Stihl Australia gave me the cold shoulder - claimed they hadn't had any failures blah ... blah ... but as a gesture of good faith would sell me a new AP 300 S battery for half price. Bearing in mind that this offer only came 2 weeks after I had already paid full retail for a replacement AP 300 battery and they flat out refused to give me a credit.
TL / DR: Stihl makes an excellent range of high quality, excellent performing 36 volt tools and they sell them as a premium product for a premium price. However if you're unlucky and have a failure out of warranty they'll tell you to hit the road instead of investing in brand loyalty.

When I'm out cutting in the woods, or by the splitter, I reach for the 220 more than any other saw. Light. Quite. Powerful. Battery lasts a long time. Not for big rounds.
I have four Stihl chain saws , and my battery Stihl is quickly becoming my favorite, don't be fooled by the quietness of it., its just as dangerous as ANY gasser ! But I like not having the gas/oil mix in my vehicle and all the grime that goes with mixing and storing fuel mix. Plus this saw is a workhorse ! You wont be disapointed
and you never buy gas again, oil to mix in, spark plugs, filters, services costs etc etc etc .....

I own this saw. I bought if for my Wife but it's very robust and is perfect for de-branching felled trees. Love it

I bought one of these saws in the spring of 2020, not because of your video, but because I saw your wife using one in one of her videos. So I bought one for my wife. I like it for all the same reasons you say; which is basically convenience. I own a couple larger gas Huskys, but this saw is great for limbing or just taking a break from the gas saws on smaller logs. With the battery and charger, they are a little pricy though. Oh and by the way, my wife still doesn't use it much. But hey, she's 64 and I'm going on 70!

Scott Teske Same set-up here but with the MSA200. Use mainly in the fall and winter bushing trails for snowmobiling. Made a mount on the back of my sled for the MSA200 to carry when I ride for those quickie cuts. Stihl did a good job on design and manufacturing of their battery outdoor tools.

Good demonstration. Next I would like to see how fast the 880 is compared to the 261 cutting logs in the grapple. Maybe a shorter bar than the 48".
Occasional use, no carberator to get gunked up, no mixing of fuel/oil…seems like a decent option.
I bought the Ryobi to match my batteries I already had. Same thought - great ride along saw.

I’m 100% sold on battery chainsaws. Battery tech has come a long way! I’d like to know a comparison; how many batteries would you go thru before you’d empty a tank of gas. I like that you don’t have to pull a cord to start, it’s quiet, no mixing fuel, no engine issues... Just need to buy a supply of batteries ($$$). Thanks Mike!

I keep my gas chainsaw in the back of my Chevy Trailblazer all the time as well as a heavy chain. I live way out in the country, up in the mountains, with a lot of forests around. You can come across a fallen tree at any time. I once found a couple of trees that fell across the road down from my house that were about 15 inches across. I cut the small branches off and tossed the small branches off the side of the road and then hooked my chain onto them and drug them 1/4 mile up the road to my place and into my driveway. Took 2 trips to get all the trees. I then finished cutting them in the driveway.
It’s also an excellent idea in a suburban setting where noise restrictions are enforced. You can pretty much use that type of a saw anytime, day or night!

48 and sunny here in central nh. Nice little saw Mike. I can see me getting one. Already have a couple saws, that would be a quiet addition to the neighborhood.
I bought a Stihl hedge cutter and an MSA220c both with batteries, and I use the battery chainsaw now more than the petrol one. Having 2 batteries is a must. The most important difference I find is that the saw stops the moment you take your finger off the power, and you can lay it on the ground to move the logs in silence, and simply pick up the saw to make the next cut without trying to re-start it. Yes, I would still use the petrol saw for bigger trunks, but for the stuff most people cut and split for their wood burner, the battery saw is an easier and probably safer option.

Great video mike. My in-laws don't have a wood stove anymore so they don't need a big saw anymore. But I just can get my father in law to switch to something like this. He's got an 044 stihl chainsaw and it's to him taking away his man card. Keep up the great videos.

In your best case review it looked great. What happens while in the woods and if you had to fell a full grown Rock Maple with a base of 30 inches with a 18 inch bar. Then, limb up, drag the log out of the woods to have to cut to chunks on the ground. Would you be carrying a few extra batteries or rely on a gas chainsaw. This description had been done with a Stihl 300 with an 18 inch bar. For the most part the limbs/branches were the size of a large pizza.
I bought the msa 220-c earlier this year and it's been great. I find that I can charge my second battery while using the first and it finishes well before I need it.
Maybe you cutting wood that is very soft because I have the MSA 220 and a 500S battery and it not work like that. Test with cuts that take 90% the blade length.
@@sirvozelo1 I own a few acre wooded lot. Generally it's oak and iron wood (iron wood is smaller but super hard). I'm solo clearing branches and other stuff while doing it though so definitely plenty of non-run time for the saw. I do a touch up sharpen every other battery as well

I still have my Dad’s blue and white Homelite XL12, but after spending an hour or so helping the son in law equipped with the Stihl 220, an extra battery pack and chain, I’m convinced . Lithium ion battery technology is mature, and this Stihl product PERFORMED . WOW , this saw is well designed and quirk free. I have had previous experience with other brands of lit ion saws that left me unimpressed. That so called tropical storm made a mess of SW CT , and this saw got quite the workout.

Nice presentation. I have sthil batteries with a hedge trimmer, whipped snipped and a 230mm 9 inch wet saw. I have an earlier 36 volt 4 amp hour that's about 144 watt hour. Also later bought the same as your battery the 7.2 amp hour 260 watt hour battery.
I looked at this chainsaw at the sthil shop and it is impressive. You can also carry a battery back pack with different amp hour that will run all day.
So there is a lead that plugs into a battery adapter. Say for instance you are cutting lumber or hanging from a tree. This is what the saw was designed for.
The larger batteries take about 4 hours to charge.
The battery world is catering for mining industry. Also laws regarding emmisions. So more of this will come out.

I did own a kabolt 80 volt 2 amp hour chain saw. I gave it to a friend because it leaked too much.
Well even the sthil will leak oil unless you empty the oil reservuar. Did I spell that right?
Since the sthil is smaller than the kabolt and has easier functions than the kabolt. I think the chain adjustment and actually changing blades for a bigger chain is relatively easy.

The Stihl battery equipment is popular in the resorts and condominiums in South Beach Florida. The string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers and pole pruners are favored because they are quiet.

Cool. I bought the smaller MSA120 with an extra battery. I really like it and it works great😎 I have had it for around two years. The AK20 battery will last for around 30 minutes so with two I have plenty of time. Great video as usual😎🇺🇸
