  • Srixon ZX5 ZX7 irons reviewed and tested by Mark Crossfield. Blending has just got smoother from Srixon golf in the new range of ZX irons. Mark tests the new Srixon golf ZX5 and ZX7 irons on the golf course and inside using GCQuad for ball data to explain what these new Srixon golf irons could do for your golf game. The ZX5 Srixon iron is the slightly bigger of the two iron where the ZX7 offers that slightly more tour look and style. Both iron feel and look from the top line very similar and could be blended to match your launch angles and distance requirements. Srixon golf iron have been used on world tours for years and have proven popular among club golfers, have you ever tested Srixon golf clubs and if so what did you make of them.

Great points about getting fit for each iron in a set. As a pro, the manufacturers only give me 7 irons to compare. There is a very big difference with longer irons and blended sets are key. Just need the manufactures to give us more irons like maybe a 9 and a 5 to paint a better picture. Great video!

Yes I was going to say something similar but from the side of the buyer. When I get fitted for iron sets it’s only the 7 iron I can try. Obviously Drivers, Fairway woods, Hybrids & Wedges are available in different specs. So from my point of view I could never try differences in the irons unless I buy several different sets. Good review though Mark 👍⛳️

My course had a full demo set and that influenced my purchase decision massively. Manufacturers need to start offering a couple of irons for people to test.

Play the Z785 in 4-PW and absolutely love them. As a high ball hitter thank you Mark for helping me understand why I struggled with the Z585 in the long irons. I assumed the benefit was more forgiveness side to side but never saw that, only a higher flight and a little more distance. Not to knock the new Z7's but I think the 785's look better. The Z7's have more of an old Z-TX look to me.

Went for an iron fitting with a srixon set today. He was very much pro blend and did recommend a driving iron 4, zx5 5-6, zx7 7-9, with a forged wedges or stepping over to Cleveland wedges. Great clubs, just waiting on price to see. Currently game M2 taylormades and the srixons give me the ball flight I am after and the difference being fit for shafts also means I won't sacrifice the distance I get from the more forgiving M2 set

Great fitting today with local pro (Howard Bonaccorsi). Great fun, really enjoyed seeing how head and shaft combinations make such a difference to performance. Tried Srixon ZX5, Titleist T200, Mizuno JPX921 Forged, Cobra King Tour MIM and TaylorMade P770. Hands down winner for me on looks, feel and performance was Srixon ZX5 with Nippon NS Pro Modus 3 shaft. Closest to that was Titleist T200 (very nice looking and performing) but Srixon edged it for me. Well worth a fitting, loved it!

I didn't play for 20 years and only played social as a kid, coming back 4 years ago with a set of Srixon Z565's. Only alterations were 10 paper grips and stiff shafts to the woods. My handicap was set at 28.
Later I bought a set of Z765's, which are still new in plastic. Last year I emptied my win accounts at the club and bought the ZX5's, which are also still new in the plastic.
I just can't quit the 565's.I only use Srixon balls too, from Distance to AD333 and Ultisoft. Recently bought a dozen Soft Feel Lady balls but haven't hit one yet.
I now play off 8 and haven't had a lesson in my life. I just found a set which clicked from the get go and have experimented with the balls to improve distance and spin. If it isn't broken don't fix it I guess.
It's nice to know if I need a change the other clubs are there, but I think it improves me as a player to lower the scores round after round with the same gear, rather than chasing fads or marketing campaigns.Personally think the 565's are the McLaren F1 of golf clubs. Everything after is just an imitation.

I did test them about 3 months ago. Enjoyed the feel, but wasn't blown away. Going to test them again soon. I love the look of the iron and want them to work, but definitely won't force the issue if I'm not getting anything out of them during the next test. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

Only thing is and this isn't a criticism depending who you are you may be looking for this, they are FAST! I mean EXTREMELY FAST! I am taking lessons after 4 months off with an ankle injury so once I'm a bit more dialed I will regap them as I suspect I will need to weaken the lofts a couple degrees.

    I game 4,5,6 Srixon U85, 7&8 585 and 9&P 785. Cleveland RTX4 50,56&60
Blending the set has helped me enormously although in my head I wanted a full set of 785’s the fitting from Srixon was bang on point. Also the Recoil shafts in all irons bar the wedges made a lot of difference. Great feel across all of the clubs and not too strong which many manufacturers seem to be nowadays. Previously had a full set of 765’s and the new blended solution is a far better overall solution.
    Highly recommended......

Great video Mark. I switched to Srixon irons this season, previously playing Mizuno JPX 900 forged. Felt my ball striking had improved to step up in my irons. Tested AP2/T100, MP20 MMC, and the Srixon 785s. Never considered Srixon in the past and was blown away with the results. What sold me was the Tour V sole and the turf interaction was amazing. Got fit into 585 4 and 5 irons and 785 7 thru Pitch. Absolutely love them. Don't know that I'll ever go back to Mizuno now, that V sole has me "sold!"

What I have noticed is my shots are way more consistent and I hardly chunk them. Those V soles are amazing! I really don't want to give them back. I j guess I'm just going to have to wait until the Srixon fitting guy comes out in the nest week or so.

I was fitted this week. Tested most of the major brands, excluding ping, and walked away choosing the ZX5. I honestly have never tried Srixon, and didn't know about the ZX7. ZX5 was amazing performance-wise. Look was good, forgiveness subperb, distance was solid, not great. Couldn't beat the dispersion though. Great feel as well.
I told my fitter I hated offset. Not sure if that's why we didn't try Ping.

The ZX5 is so much closer feel to the ZX7 than the previous Srixon models. Not so much of a jump in distance between them as well. I tried them last night with the new Nippon Neo shaft, normally I'm a Modus 120/130 but the ball flight and control with the Neo was so much better.
Having used previous Srixon models these are the best they have produced for me by quite a long way!

Only caveat maybe that your off centre hits are way more centre than mine :-)

First impression is they look so much better than the previous generation. I play Z565s and honestly I bought them for performance more than looks the ZX5s look so much better than 565s and 585s and blend nicer with the ZX7s. I really wanted a blended set and let the fitter talk me out of it because he thought it would be too hard to blend. Now these make me want a new set of ZX5/ZX7. Damm now I’m having equipment lust again.

Blended sets are definitely the way to go, but the issue is even with say Titleist newest range, they don’t blend well without manipulation, just got fit and fitter advised me not to blend due to my “awareness” of my previous blend point 7iron AP2 - 6 iron AP3, ideally I was looking for a T100s - T200 blended set but ended with a full set of T200 after taking advice. This srixon range seems to be a company’s best attempt to properly allow the blend option.

Absolutely LOVE what Srixon has done over the last 7 to 10 years with their equipment, especially the irons. I think the Z-Forged were the most beautiful irons they've ever created. Still regret ever selling my 745 irons. I think the ZX5 is a massive improvement in looks vs the Z585 but, conversely, I don't love the looks of the ZX7 compared to the Z785. By no means are they ugly but just an interesting visual change. That said, I think the end result for those who game/demo these will be exactly the same - amazing feel and consistent yardages.

I love a nose in other golfers’ bags so a WITB is a definite winner! I love the idea of blending a set but, pre-enlightenment, I invested in a set of JPX 919 Hot Metal irons. I’ve noticed, after a limited amount of gap testing at a range that has toptracer (would also like to know how accurate all data is with range balls, even with the normalised function is on) that I’ve got quite a gap between my PW and 9 iron distances (there’s a 5 degree gap between each club between PW and 7 iron). I’ve either got to get better at hitting a soft 9/VVV hard PW, potentially invest in different higher lofted irons, or, ideally, both!

Would love to see a "full bag" fitting. When buying clubs, most places will only have a 7 Iron head that can be used with a variety of shafts. If the store had a copy of every head from every model of 's clubs for fitting purposes, the fitting cart would have to be a fitting VAN!!!
One (and only one) of the PGA TOUR Superstores here in the Myrtle Beach area offers a "Tour Van Fitting," where every club in your bag will be evaluated, and if necessary, altered, in order to tighten up any gaps in yardages. Not cheap though, at $500, but I imagine that you don't leave unhappy.

I play Srixon irons. Combo set. I wanted mizuno, didn’t like the feel. Tried everything, srixon was the best. I’ll game these for another year. I’m going to make some swing changes and next year take a look at a new set. Srixon will always be a consideration. They make quality irons.
I love srixon irons, but not interested in Cleveland, xxio, srixon as a whole beside their irons

I’ve just come out of a fitting with a full bag of ZX5 from driver to PW and the Zipcore wedges having outperformed all other clubs which really surprised me as I went in wanting Taylormade

I am a Srixon iron player, I have had Z785, tried the ZX7 but after having major surgery earlier this year I needed more help with distance and have settled on ZX5 6-PW, srixon make great clubs, great feel and even better price, great vfm.

Definitely want to see WITB. I got fitted into a set of 785 and loved them. Unfortunately, I fell victim to wanting a little more pop and wanting to buy the shiny new thing on the block and I swapped them for Apex pros. I still have the 785 heads and eventually will save up to get them built up again because I really do liked them.

Still gaming the Z545. I only play 6 - GW due to my limited ball speed. I actually tried the 565 and 585 but preferred my Z545’s.
The new ZX5 looks like a perfect replacement for my Z545’s, I’ll certainly be testing them.

I had my heart set on srixon z785 just found them quite long in blade length, tried z forged and loved them. I’m moving away from blades at the moment so didn’t get them and have just ordered ping i210. Do love srixon clubs if only I had waited these night of been the fit for me

Hey Mark, I am happy to hear you golfers in the UK can play outdoors again! I liked this review a ton, in fact watched it a couple of times. When you showed the top lines of these irons the first time I watched I thought man those are thickish from the angle you showed. But when I saw them at the store, they did not look as thick like in your video, in fact they were pretty close to the 929 tours. I was very impressed them after I hit them. I am debating which ones to go with, combo ZX7-ZX5 or MP-20 JPX tour, mainly because I’m a lefty and never had the chance to play Mizuno...never ever available in the past. Any parting thoughts?

Great videos as always. Just returned home From a professional fitting. Really had a ton of interest in the Mizuno line With interest in the HMB line specifically. I am a 13 handicap. Left the studio with Srixon ZX-7 in W-6iron ordered. I found it interesting that I hit the ZX7 slightly better than the ZX5. Not particularly sure why, I just kept coming back to that club. It is very soft and yet
Plenty long. I play hybrids Titleist TS2 line, 23 and 18 and added 25 deg. today to replace five iron. I am super interested in trying that six iron launcher you speak about. Of interest, my fitting pro says he’s been having a lot of people end up in Srixon ZX5/7 after being handed them in a fitting session.

I have a blended 585/785 set right now. I will be moving to an all ZX5 set next 5-PW. Just like the looks of them and as I age I want to capitalize on any extra help.

I tested them they both are very good clubs. I bent the zx7 to the same loft as the zx5. even at the same loft zx5 consistently gave me faster ball speed. For me it resulted in almost 8-10 yards difference in distance, slightly higher launch. I have higher swing speed (120 mph driver) so those with average speeds i'd guess would pick up 5 yards compared to an iron that doesnt have high COR face. I chose the zx7's because out on the course the zx5 sole being wider just didn't quite work for me. I felt it was too difficult to get the leading edge under the ball compared to the more narrow zx7. If you have a steeper swing then zx5's would be a great choice.

I've been playing a set (P-5) of Z565 for the last two years and absolutely love them. Really good balance of good feel and forgiveness. I did some thought on blending (Z765 for PW-8) but didn't. Looking back I don't regret and would probably not blend if buying a set of ZX5 today, and if so I would only blend P (and A) ZX7 into the set.

Been waiting for this video and it didn't disappoint, great stuff as always mate. Most of the guys I play with acknowledge Srixon are quality but it's just so blimmin hard to find somewhere to get fit for them. Srixon really need to up their game with getting their product out there imo. I'm certainly gonna keep an eye on their website for a local fitting day and try these out and intend to blend a set. The old mp53s I currently have now have competition.

Very helpful. It's my experience too Viz blending irons with hybrids etc and also testing clubs on course Vs off course. Also had many fittings and have been somewhat skeptical as a result partly for reasons you mentioned but also in some cases incentives and preferences some might have for particular clubs/brands or specific indicators (like swing weight). As a result I have over time worked out my own set and that includes shaft choices too.

I have the 2iron u85 and the 565 irons, with cleveland wedges. I think i well get the srixon driver and 3 wood this year, to replace my mizuno st180. Srixon have performed very well for me, used to use mizuno through the bag, but srixon are cheaper in nz and perform just as good as mizuno
