  • For the very first ‘What’s The Deal With Sports’ Episode, we’re talking about the NFL’s International Player Pathway Programme AKA The IPP / IPPP. The IPP allows some of the world's best athletes to switch sports and try to make it to American Football's big time!
    Right now, Welsh Rugby star Louis Rees Zammit is currently impressing and
    Is on course to sign for an NFL franchise 🏈💪🏼
    Tom Ochoa & Dave Birch explain and discuss the following.
    What is the IPP?
    Who runs it?
    How does it work?
    Which high profile athletes have joined the programme and who have ultimately forged a career in the NFL?
    We really hope you enjoyed this episode. There will be a new episode every week, so please let us know what deals and ongoing events within sport you’d like us to talk about.

    As an American, I've really enjoyed following the IPP series on NFL UK's channel this year, and I appreciate your interest in this sport. Here's hoping we have more and more players from the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe, Africa and beyond playing in the NFL in the coming years

      51 year old me after l learnt the rules and realise just how technical and strategic the game is. Really enjoy it and have stayed up till the early hrs and watched the last 12 super bowls

    Louis Rees Zammit will definitely get signed to one of the NFL practice squads. It's almost a guarantee. He has already been asked by 2 teams to visit them to discuss things further. They wanted to meet him. The Cleveland Browns and New York Jets have already met with him and other teams are also interested.

    My Chiefs stay one step ahead, once again, freshly after the NFL Rules Committee voted to totally change the Kickoff scheme. Not to mention making the “hip drop” tackle a personal foul penalty, which I believe has always been banned in rugby! Gee..I wonder what LRZ could bring to the Chiefs?🤔🤔🤭🤭🤪

    If LRZ can make it to the 52 man roster, then minimum salary is $825k. Practice squad MAX salary is $21,300.

    Hoping the new guy with the Chiefs actually makes the roster and isn't sitting on the practice squad. I'd like to see more guys make it. Long term the league needs more international players since participation in the U.S. has been declining a bit.

    Its nothing new for rugby (League) players making it at least into the practise squad through the IPP. Jarryd Hayne, Valentine holmes, and the most successful so far Jordan Mailata.
    Its only because a star from rugby (union) is attempting it that theres a big fuss. Lets wait and see if LRZ becomes as successful as Mailata who just extended for US$60 Million for 3 years bringing in his total earning to over US$120 Million so far

    • @WhatsTheDealWithSports
      @WhatsTheDealWithSports  Месяц назад

      Jordan is the poster boy for the IPP for sure. I think it’s because LRZ is such a young, top level Union player that has caused so much interest

    There are 32 teams in the NFL. Less than 1% of college players are drafted into the NFL.

    • @user-nk9cw5md8l
      @user-nk9cw5md8l Месяц назад

      Rees Zammit bypasses all that. The IPP program he is on now is part of the NFL and every team on the NFL from this year onwards is allowed to have 1 additional international player pathway program athlete admitted onto their teams practice squad so it's basically a guarantee Louis Rees Zammit will get a spot on one of the NFL teams practice squads, not active roster squads but practice squad

    • @pushpak
      @pushpak Месяц назад

      @@user-nk9cw5md8lI know this. Just pointing out the difficulty of getting a spot in the NFL. Even once selected, you have to fight to become a starter.

      @@usarugbyleagueunionfanI agree. Just an FYI, I'm an American who occasionally watches Union and League. I think he will go on a practice squad. The NFL owners just approved the new Kickoff format which could benefit him because it gives him the opportunity run in a style he's used to but he's not going to be a WR. He'll have to master the Route Tree and become a QB's best friend and to be clear, I'm pulling for the guy.

      @@pushpak That’s great you watch League and Union. That’s all I watch. I was a massive NFL fan since 1970’s. About 9 years ago started watching both of those sports. I can appreciate how massive the NFL is yet the stop start and commercials would kill me now. I hope Rees does well in NFL. He will be utterly shocked at all the yapping during an NFL game compared to Rugby.
