    In the US, the mangoes come from Mexico. It is second tier mangoes. The best mangoes are from the subcontinental. It is a shame that most Desi stores in America only carry Mexican mangoes instead of Indian mangoes.

      Actually Indian mangoes... India has more than two dozens of major mango species indigenous to India not found in any other country of Indian subcontinent.. And i have never heard of paki mangoes so won't comment...!!

    Considering the etymology of the word 'Mango' surprised that you skipped the southern indian languages. In most other sources, it is said that the word originated from 'maanga/maangai' used in Malayalam/Tamil. The Portuguese first landed in Kerala and the chances are they borrowed the name from there, instead of Malay Peninsula.

      @@TareekhiTales right, but the pronunciation are bit different, like in Sindhi Ambu, the u is not pronounced as "oo" but rather like "uh".

      In Gujarati Ambo means Mango Tree.
