Nice video. I have a 2017 with the 3.92 gears, with all terrain tires. I average 21-23. I also run T6 5-40 with 5000 mile oil changes. I absolutely love this truck, I tow flatbed trailer and my boats with it and commute round trip about 85 miles a day. Oh yeah I have 45,000 miles.
I had a 2014 Ram Ecodiesel Lonestar. I was original owner. 176,000 miles. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it. 2 intake manifolds, 1 DPF, 1 DEF tank, and 3 EGRs. I really wish some days I still had it but it spent almost 8 total months in the shop. I hope Fiat got the 3rd Generation Ecodiesel right in the 2021 and up models. Luckily for me all the work and parts were under the regular warranty or emissions warranty. I did get $18,500 for a trade in 4 months ago and it was gone off the lot in one day. I see it every once in a while on the roads. A young man has it. I was excited to purchase a used 2019 Nissan Titan XD (5.0L Cummins) until I talked to the service manager. They replace the EGRs in them due to failure about once every 8-10 months. He told me he’s done too many to count. I couldn’t do it again. Too many issues with emissions and diesels. I live in an emissions state and unable to delete due to yearly inspections and fines. So i did get a new/used truck. A 2019 Nissan Titan SL 4x4 5.6L gasser. It’s a shame that we are choking the diesels to death.
Our trucks are eerily similar. Close to the same miles and both Laramies that got converted to a "Sport" or "Limited". I've had some things fall off mine and since I had the extra room- upgraded to the 32 gallon fuel tank. I still get about 18+ mpg pulling my Typhoon on a 20' steel car trailer.
I briefly thought about buying a new Ram eco but my type of driving is the worst case for a diesel, mostly short trips around town and not that many miles driven in a year.
Definitely invest in a Mopar Warranty if you do not have the AEM update that gives owners the extra warranty related to the class-action lawsuit with 2014-2016 Ecodiesel models. From what people are saying, these engines fail around 150,000 miles or less. Many Ecodiesel owners have deleted the EGR and report having excellent mpg and more horsepower. Unfortunately, in the States it’s against Federal Law. Most of these tuned Ecodiesel owners are in Canada that love these engines and claim getting 32 mpg.
I knew you'd love that thing ❤️🤘. I'd really like to own one someday but, I want a hemi/8speed combo truck I can build first. Hopefully this next year, I can get something nice for a change 💪
Damn, this video pops up. Today my 2016 ram 1500 laramie ecodiesel. Engine blew at 125,000 miles. I didn't have zero oil pressure. Had a knocking sound in the motor. Dealer says I need a new motor. Gonna cost me $17,500💀
If you were the original owner or was part of the AEM update, you could be covered under the class-action settlement that certainly covers you fully on a new engine. You are under 150,000 miles so FCA could help if this vehicle had that AEM update.
just picked up my 2016 Eco from the dealer today. it ate the bottom of the motor out at 170,000. cost of a 100% new motor (cant buy long block anymore) $8,453.00, labor $4,684, fluids etc $315 total $13,452. this is in the bay area of California so adjust for shop rates in your area.
Lugging is the demise of these motors. The longer lasting ecodisels I’ve heard of tow most of their lives. I personally attribute the longevity to the fact most people run tow/haul mode while towing. When ran in tow/haul your RPMs stay in that 1800-2000 range which doesn’t stress your bottom end as much as cruising at 1200 RPM. I personally run my 18’ ecodiesel in tow/haul all the time to keep my RPMs up (also keeps my oil pressure up as well).
@@PJ_Sloan no just seen a handful of spun crank bearings. Logic would tell us that’s from bottom end stress and lugging the engine. I also have no clue what you’re talking about as far as another idiot on here 🤷♂️. Glad to hear you’re getting good use out of your truck tho. 🤘

I just trailered my wife's vehicle from Daytona Beach, FL to Boulder, Co with a 2020 Ram 1500 V8 Hemi last week. Averaged around 13 mpg. Ended up going through part of the appalachian mountains at night which was very scary to say the least, especially being from FL and not being used to mountain driving and doing it for the first time with a trailer. White knuckled that bitch.

At 90k our ‘17 decided to give up. Got around 18-20 before it blew with regens all the time. We’ve been waiting for a motor since before Christmas, certainly not impressed. My parents had a ‘15 before and it got around 25-30mpg, but post recall these motors got much worse. Their G3 ‘20 on 35s gets about 18-20, but I’m sure stock it would get around 23. Last week I was on my way to the dealer to make the trade and the engine seized 50 km from the dealership. easily. Electric are a joke, TFL already proved it with the Rivian. Used up 88% of the battery just going up pikes peak, not even at max tow.
Also, over 90 degrees, or under 45, trucks shut down in heat, and lose 30% of their charge capacity. And off road you lose 80% of your range.
Makes me wonder that with all the towing your doing what the gas mileage would be with 4.10 gears.
