I was in 2nd battalion, 4th Infantry US Army back in the mid to late 1980's. My unit on occasion was the aggressor force for NATO LERP school at Weingarten, Germany. The LERP cadets came from all over NATO and the best for us aggressors was the British forces especially the Paras and the Royal Marine commandos. They took the course seriously and were a damn good game opponent. It was tough catching those men and usually not until the very end of a week-long grueling exercise when they were tired and even then they usually got away. The only successful way of catching the Brits was we used the thermal sites from the Dragon missile to catch them at night. Otherwise we were lucky..very lucky to catch the Brits. As an old soldier I salute the Commandos and thank them for providing some great memories of my time in the US Army. Good luck boys put your trust in the Lord and keep your powder dry!

QUESTION: concerning my hopes on joining the royal commandos, if i apply... will i 100% get accepted or is it like 1000 people apply and only 50 get chosen or something? Please reply if you know

Aaron Doyle gubbins you will also have to do the PJFT (Pre joining fitness test) which you’ll need to complete two 2.4km runs on a treadmill that is set to a 2% incline. To pass you will need to do the first run in less than 12 minutes and 30 seconds. The second run will start after a one-minute break and will need to be completed in less than 10 minutes. This time is an absolute minimum requirement and the expectation is that you return the best time possible.

Does anyone know how long it takes to become a royal Marine in 2017? I know that it varies and there is a lot of info online but I'm asking for anyone who has recently got in or applied to be a royal marine.
Crow Bar the application process will take probably about 9months to complete so that's pencil the medical test etc. Then basic training is 32 weeks for commandos and 64 for officers
