    There is a difference in running an insane amount and running a few miles a week. Its all about moderation. Our bodies are made to get up and move.

    • @randenrichards5461
      @randenrichards5461 3 года назад

      Our ancestors ran approximately 50 miles per day when we were hunter gatherers. Some tribes in Mexico still run those distances every day in thongs or barefoot. We are literally built for long distance running and we are in the top 5 of long distance running animals. We are one of the slowest predator species on earth but we make up for it with large brains that can help us plan and predict and long endurance that let our ancestors literally run animals into exhaustion, where we could simply stab it with an ancient spear. Where we break down the body in endurance running is not changing out our shoes properly at every 300 miles or don’t get the proper shoes for our gait and foot types. I run 60 miles a week for the last 20 years and have zero problems with my knees, but I am also very picky on shoes and socks getting the right ones for my feet and changing them out before they are “broke in” it’s all about taking care of your feet. If you want to start distance running go to a running store, not a foot locker and have them determine your gait and foot type, and have them help you find the right shoes. Just going and picking whatever is “cool” is probably not going to be right. Don’t let your shoes break in that’s actually bad, run in them no more than 300 miles especially if you are a bigger runner. Other than that running damages knees is a big pile of you know what.

    I'm 71. Started running in 1976, moved to road biking in 1990 because of knees, moved to recumbent bike inside in 2013 because it is safer and not weather or dark limited. Runner's high is real for me. I go after it when I get in a funk.
    Have been going to YMCA for a year to improve joint strength. Family history of arthritis. Rheumatologist said keep weight low, repetitions high (such as 3 sets of 20 or 25). The goal is to move the joint through its full range of motion and not use so much weight that muscle constriction restricts blood flow.
    I feel great, constantly on the move. I can almost stay up with my grandsons.

    regards the knee problems with running;
    it's not the issue of running itself thats the problem. people who complain of knee pain do so for a few other reasons.
    firstly, when you bend the knee the pressure applied to it is about 3 times that of your body weight while walking. this goes up by a factor of 10 times when you're running. A 80kg male running is pushing almost 800kg of pressure in to the knees. While the knee is very good at moving and transfering the pressure due to the design, someone over weight by just a little bit, is still going to have a 10x the pressure added. Also that knee design, there are lots of people who run (and even walk), and don't run properly, or already have misaligned tendons that'll create more issues as their leg muslces strighten and pull the knee more out of alignment. Long term, this creates a lot of pain, clicking and popping as they walk and stand.

    Any and all excuses against running in my personal experience I've debunked through time. I've been running for 6 years, and I used to have a bad knee do to a minor injury when I was a kid. After my time running my knee is stronger, becuase the muscles around my knee are stronger (i can see it and feel it) and it has helped me control my weight all this time.
    I love running, I love how it feels, i love the sweating, I feel full of energy and keeps me happy- I will never stop.

    2:34 Sure, I was one of those (never had any kind of knee problems)...until one day, during a typical running session, the lateral meniscus of my left knee gave up.
    Several days of stabbing knee pain for my trouble, could barely bend my leg or use the stairs.
    I was foolish enough to try again after a week's rest, convinced that running wasn't the issue (since I had done plenty of it without ever having knee problems).
    20 minutes into my next session, meniscus gives up again, stabbing pain returns, game over.
    In light of the events I switched to mountain biking, my knee problem mysteriously disappeared... coincidence?
    My experience, cycling is tougher on leg muscles and gentler on leg joints, cardio-wise it's probably about the same (if you push yourself).
    So, personally, I'm quite convinced that running isn't great for the knees, regardless of what some minor studies might say.

    I sincerely doubt running is bad for your knees. Running with bad form definitely is, in the same way that benchpressing with poor form will annihilate your rotator cuffs. Something we’ve evolved to do and have done for millions of years isn’t likely to cause us harm. I think it has a lot more to do with genetics, diet, and posture.

    I can sign the knee thing. Thanks to regular medication changes, I struggle to control my weight and tend to change weight a fair amount. Obviously I still exercise and one of the few aerobic exercises I enjoy, is running/jogging and dancing. Every time I put on weight, I get a lot of comments about me ruining my knees by doing high impact exercise - especially as extra weight is known to strain the joints. I make sure my doctors keep an extra close eyes on my knees as a result and actually mine are doing better than those of non-exercising colleagues.

    If I feared getting a second dosis of pickle juice, I would deny having cramps just to avoid having to ingest any more.

    If you get side stitches, just do the Kylo Ren. Punch that bullet wound a couple times and don't stop running.

    It seems to me that if there is no experiment carried out by scientists, we never know the conclusion! In fact, there are so many practical examples! Tha a survey of those runners we know!

    i feel like the running on knees part is more relevant to athletes that are not specialized in running (ie not cross country or track) and the running actually just emphasizes already injured areas. Personally I play hockey and if I run long distances I feel it more in my hips and low back (common pain areas in hockey players). Also, being a non running sport athlete, I am sure that my running technique and posture leads to higher chance of injury while running, just my thoughts on that part, let me know what you think or what you've experienced!

    The weird thing about DOMS is that it mostly occurs during new workouts. If you do a similar workout consistently for a fortnight you will still get stronger and better, but the amount of DOMS you'll have will a tiny fraction of what you had after the first time you did the workout.

    If you have weak knees yes you need to start with a progression that doesnt make your knees hurt for some it may be running and for others is walking. If your knees dont hurt and you’re making progression your knees will become stronger.

    It’s more likely to cause damage if runners don’t warm up and cool down properly. Including static stretches during cool down will also have benefits. The thing that a lot of people don’t realise is long term running can cause premature ageing on the face.

    I have 40year old knees of a very active person who has been walking and running close to 60 miles average per week most of my life. My knees hurt if I run on asphault. I run on soft trails in the wooded areas and it does me great. When I am going aa llong distance or if my knees are being troublesome I just take with me my trekking poles.

    side stitch? focus on breathing when the opposite foot from normal hits the ground. It'll help to shake the stitch

    I think the technique of the runner makes a huge difference. If you run correctly you transfer energy to forward motion and don’t bob up and down like those who don’t run properly. I’ve clearly not done a study but I think that this may make a differ to knee damage.

    Maybe the cramping isn't the physical limit, but rather a signal to say that you're running low on electrolytes, to save it for important things, like your heart pumping. Then, when you drink pickle juice your body sees 'Oh, no problem, here's some electrolytes coming in, then I don't need to worry. Ok, let's work!'

    Researchers jammed a big needle into a person's knee, then had them run for 30 minutes, then jammed another needle into their knee. It was difficult to get the fluid so they likely had to keep jamming needles into knees. Afterwards, only six results were usable, which meant that some people had needles jammed in knees for no reason whatsoever. Science!

    Man on the first question its so simple!
    The answer is: Yes it running is going to hurt your knees. BUT! if you eat healthy and sleep at least 8 hours your Bones will recover and grow stronger than befor. That said, the grow of bone structure will be faster than the damage of your knees. SO YOU CAN RUN as much as you want as long you eat healthy and sleep enough to recover! SIMPLE AS THAT!

    For the stomach cramps, it helps to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Also don't drink too much water before or during running. Only a sip

    This really doesn't help you getting swollen at all. Its just information on how to improve slightly on recovery and barley any at that. Honestly you need time to recover and we all know that and always stay hydrated, personally I drink a lot of green tea to make sure my stomach and my lower parts break down and absorb as much nutrients as it can.
