Shock oil weights are for dampening and rebound speeds of the shock absorber. The spring rate is what you need to be looking at to prevent the suspension from collapsing so easily under the vehicle's weight.
Agree to some degree. dampening controls how the vehicle behaves on the rocks and reacts to weight shifts. This can have significant impact in tech crawling performance. Spring rate can affect this too but it has the undesired effect of raising the ride height and center of gravity of the vehicle. This can really harm crawling performance too. Really a combination of both but if sag height or droop is already ideal, have to look at shock oil.
right out of the box for sure it is not an ultimate rock crawler, but there is a lot of potentials, time will tell, I think I will keep mine as a shelf queen but eventually will start getting rid of all the extra unnecessary weight and test the crawler capabilities of the platform. Great tips. Funny enough started my build a few days back and started do those same tips to my rig. I'm at the mercy of waiting for all my electronics now. Keep the tips coming👍👍
I like looks over performance for that SCX10 III. I’ll keep the body the way it is, but will do the other upgrades. Also, that’s why we have multiple cars for different purposes. Thanks for the tips!...Will definitely do some of them.
If you leave with a car carrying bag in the morning and bring it back at night, your SO won't know if it was empty when you left and full with a new car when you come back. Works with gun cases too, fyi!
It’s pretty insane that most crawlers you have to add at least $100 of mods for them to do anything correctly. The only one that is pretty decent out of the box is the TRX4 Sport
Seems everyone that doesn’t understand rc thinks these things should be comp ready out of the box. In all rc lines each one has its strong points and weak points. This is true with all rc crawlers. The only one I haven’t tested is VS410 pro and I haven’t put my SCX10 III together yet but soon. Trx4 is probably all you’ve ever drove
KRAVEN KRAWL HOBBY nope, not at all. I have an Element Enduro that I built from a kit (the TRX4 Sport was a Kit too). It’s easier to see the shortcomings of each if you build the kit. Also I don’t do serious competitions. My main goal with crawlers is to have them optimally perform for trailing and for use on rock crawling. Sure, I may try some comps at some point but I never intended that to be the focus. As for the Element it’s atrocious that they included plastic pivot balls, flimsy front shock towers, plastic hexes. My reply was about general quality and saying that there are options that are better value than others. If a beginner asked me about the Enduro kit and if I’d buy again I’d likely say no as I couldn’t build it stock and be remotely happy with it. I had to add $100 in basic things just to get it to the same level as my TRX4 Sport like metal pivot balls, metal hexes, better front shock towers and solid panhard mount. Just me personally I’d never spend $750 on a kit and then have to pay $300 just to get it driving so the VS4 isn’t even on my radar. The TRX4 Sport I’ve dropped off rope bridges from 6’ onto concrete and the worst that’s happened is the body cracked.
Jon Thomas I completely agree with you on everything you had to say here. Wished others would come to the realization about the Enduro, I personally thing it’s a piece of junk and gave mine away because it felt so cheap and completely wrong setup. VS410 pro.....for that kind of money it better come out of the gate swinging because I plan on getting one so I can see for myself if it can pull the sword from the stone and be king. Really great points you made. Most crawlers are around a GRAND when they get done. Never thought I’d spend this kind of money on RC’s and products. So addicted.
KRAVEN KRAWL HOBBY I’ve also been very impressed with the GMade SR Steel beadlocks I’ve been using. Really I think if I was to do it over again I think I would have bought the GMade Komodo Double Cab Kit and then bought the SR steel beadlocks and some Krawler KX’s. The upgrade links are relatively inexpensive too. I wish I’d have gone that route instead of the Enduro. In any case my Enduro is usable now with ST Racing front shock towers, metal pivot balls and hexes etc. It’s really smooth now that I geared it down a bit. I guess it’s now like a better version of an SCX10 II but I think I wanted it to be more than that

@@RCReviewChannel FC. The Proline JL body falls about 1/2" short of the body supplied with the kit; but, still looks very good. JL body trimmed to the cut lines is near perfect. True, true. Will be running with 11t pinion today and see. First and second gear are so close it is unfortunate. 40% difference in speed only. TRX4 offers about 120% difference
Awesome video and some superb suggestions. When I get mine I'll be doing a shock mod I usually do to my trail rigs I put a small spacer inside the rear shocks to make them shorter and add a much stiffer spring to compensate for torque twist and weight of body. Gives it an overall nice appearance and handles great on rocks and trails.
You say people like it because it is so realistic... when was the last time you saw a JL wrangler with 47" tall tires on 19" rims running portal axles.... All with stock fenders. The leaky shocks is very FCA realism though.
I use these tires from Duratrax/ Louise very much and in my opinion they are the best crawling tires for the money. half price of the rest. Mud, roots, loose stuff, Forrests, parks they are very very good. On pure rock only, Hyrax are a little better.

Great video as always ;) Can't wait for some more comparisons! But this model just wanted to keep up with the market and with TRX4 but it's not so easy. The more I see, the more I thing that 10.2 KIT is still better, don't you think?
So they just came out with this rig and your telling us to cut things off. I thought this was made better than the last designs. Seems like it's worse.
Horizon hobby and axial should make a new power wagon with the scx10 3. Yea the jeep is nice but it's also being played out. Axial alone produced enough jeeps as is. Traxxas has the raptor. Vaterra has the C10. RC4WD has the Toyota. Axial and traxxas both have a Mercedes. Just my opinion on this axial scx10 3 there has been mistakes made on this kit but it can be fixed and also maybe it's time they put out another power wagon. They maybe me licensed by jeep but jeep is Chrysler is mopar is dodge. They can make it happen. Did it once they can do it again.
I feel like if Axial included a free gold bar with the kit, you'd complain that the shipping box is heavier than the TRX4. The 10.3 body is supposed to be highly detailed, it's not for a comp rig. The "shark fins" are there because they are accurate reproductions of the slider and side armor. Same with an interior cage. Yet, if it's a TRX4 video, you'll take the heavy stuff off and still compliment the rig. You give this rig an unfair shake at every opportunity possible.
These are just opportunities to make it peform. Here's 7 worst trx4 problems: ruclips.net/video/J_WAA0e5BcA/видео.html 7 Worst Redcat problems ruclips.net/video/fV0Iv3eJB58/видео.html 6 Element RC problems ruclips.net/video/6AWU4b4ZDZQ/видео.html So every crawler we try gets a shakedown. I've viewed at least 10 reviews of the 10.3 and many don't mention a single thing that can be improved. Just accolades and I'm not sure that helps anyone.

Did it once they can do it again.
to soft, leaking springs and hard tire compound..... RC cars are like videogames: never sold without several bugs, patched by community.
True in many cases. This needs to change.

So every crawler we try gets a shakedown. I've viewed at least 10 reviews of the 10.3 and many don't mention a single thing that can be improved. Just accolades and I'm not sure that helps anyone.
