We lost our little dog 7/17/22 at the "tender" age of 18 and 5.5 months. She had an INCREDIBLY vast and varied diet throughout her life, kibble and fresh foods, bones, raw foods, fruits and veg, and the menu changed with her tastes and what her teeth could handle. She had so many grand adventures in her life. I completely agree with the study that good variety, lots of exercise every day, and a positive attitude contributed to her longevity. I also lost my mother almost 6 months ago. Our dog and I were attached at the hip, and I do believe that she also declined from taking on too much of my broken heart. She knew that "mommy had a sad all the time." I miss her already.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Now you have knowledge to help your future dog. Always know you did your best for the companion you lost. But now you have new knowledge for future fur babys. Don't let sorrow harden your heart, there are so many dogs in shelters and rescues that need a home
I’m so sorry for your loss. I started following Rodney after my dogs Nala and Tesla, both 5 year old, had to be put down. Now my new puppy Cayetana is following this type of life.
I have an 85 pound pit mix who is 16 years old and still running in the mountains.. his food is one protein, and only a handful of seeds and veggies.. plus sweet potatoes/rye bread or sunflower seed based bread.. it’s expensive raw food and I cook it to remove the grease. I trained him to run off leash 15 years ago and let him run circles around me as I hiked- so my average 4 miles a day would be more like 16 miles for him. I gave him love and acknowledged his experience, never pushing him past his limits for my gain. Also, this may seem strange, but I let him lick my face- I have seen dogs who were not allowed to do this- there is something off with these dogs: possibly having to face rejection every day. What it all boils down to, in my opinion, is that I treated him as an equal and strived to meet his needs, rather than just do the bare minimum. There’s a lesson from someone who isn’t just doing research, but who is living with a 16 year old 85 pound dog that still can climb rocks, dig, and walk at least 5 miles a day.
My Weiner dog lived 22 years. We had him 22 years. He was a stray. Very loving, but he had a mission in life. What could was his reason to exist? "To Catch a Squirrel" would be the title of his novel, if one was written about his life. In the morning, he was fed in the house but preferred to spend his entire dayoutside, he ran and ran all day every day. He never got sick. We had a large fenced backyard. I really wanted a lap dog, but I wanted him to be happy. I understood that he wasn't too happy playing dress up the dog with a 6 year old. He put up with playing dress up (cowboy hat and all) and humored me willingly. But he had a mission and when he was ready to hunt he'd sit by the door and sing and sing (howling) until he was set free to go back to his serious business. Exercise extended his life. I think another reason he lived so long....... He had real meat to eat. Never dog food. Fortunately, for Abernathy, we owned a cattle ranch. It was cheaper for us to feed him leftovers, corn fed steaks, than to buy dogfood. He wasn't sure what dog food was. He really loved the bones, T bones especially. He got lucky but I was luckier. He turned completely grey. Never slowed down. Little guy never caught a squirrel but nevegave up. So determined. He did find a dead one day. He paraded around the yard like he'd won the super bowl. I never let him know I saw a dead squirrel earlier. Can you guess what he did with it? The little angel ran to me, placed it by my feet (in an odd like CEREMONIAL LIKE WAY????) I finally understood, duh! He wasn't hunting for him, he was hunting for ME. He wanted to say thanks for loving him & giving him a better life. You see, he was an abused puppyand didn't want to be touched at first. He was in very bad condition when I found him. You'd cry if you heard what he'd been thru. He gave me a chance. I held him in my lap, pinned him down, kissed him, massaged him & it didn't take him long to relax and enjoy the love I gave him. He did have a great life, 22 years of medical care, the best beef any human could ask for, and the most love a little girl could give. I adored him & let him be a dog. I was his little girl for 22 years. He was safe and protected for the rest of his life. I still think of him all the time. I'm 59 now. Pets can make a HUGE impact on your life.
After loosing my Mili at a very young age of 4 years, I long for an other dog ever since.. Because of my studies and some family matters I'm unable to get one at present. Instead I try to help in rescueing activities as possible. Your story gives me great hopes for a future life even if a bit late.. I hope to adopt rescue dogs and senior dogs as well some day. Starting a dog shelter is also there in my bucket list.. It's been great experience sharing such a motivational story.. getting from someone wise . 👍🏼🙂. Thank you.
@@j-j-j6 Hi Jwala! I know this is two years after you posted this comment, but I'm very touched by your story. I lost my boxer puppy on September 16th, 2021 just 3 days before her 1st birthday, so when you said you lost your Mili at the age of 4, I felt like we had something in common. If you don't mind me asking, what did your Mili pass away from? My Gracie Lou had surgery on her paw for a torn ligament, and it got infected with MRSA which is the antibiotic resistant staph infection. She spent 10 days in the ICU, but on day 10, the vet said there was nothing more they could do for her, and she was just getting worse. I had to make the hardest decision any pet parent has to make. She was suffering so much, and she told me it was time to let her go. Her little body was hurting so much, and she was so tired and couldn't fight anymore. So, as I held her in my loving arms, wrapped up in a warm, soft blanket, with one of my hands gently stroking her chest and the other supporting her head, she looked up at me and found the strength to give me a kiss on my cheek. I felt her last breath and her last heartbeat as she quietly and gently left me. It was the worst day of my 60 year life. Almost 6 months later, and I'm still devastated and totally broken. I will NEVER get over her death! It was so preventable, and that's just killing me! See, she was over vaccinated, on 7 different antibiotics in one year for chronic UTIs, oral flea/tick preventatives, oral heartworm preventatives and fed kibble. At the time, I didn't know any better and just blindly trusted and obeyed her vets. I truly believe that this is what killed my poor little angel. She was my heart and soul, and I loved her with every fiber of my being. But her immune system was trashed, so the infection took over and quickly entered her bloodstream. So, since this happened, I've spent every waking hour researching and watching videos and reading blogs, etc. See, I'm searching for answers, and maybe I'll never find them, but I have to try because I have a 9 year old female boxer baby, Maggie Mae, who's the love of my life, and I'm trying to help her be healthier and happier and have made a lot of changes to achieve my goal and slowly, she's responding in a positive direction! I'm so sorry for such a long message, but I try to tell Gracie's story to anyone that'll listen if I have to tell it 10,000 times or more! If I can help just one pet by telling her story, I think she would be very pleased! I also wanted to ask you if you have been able to bring another dog into your life yet? And I wonder if you're making any progress towards your bucket list? If it's none of my business, just tell me! I just care about others and sometimes I don't know where to draw the line and shut my mouth 🙄!💜
I wish i would've found out about rodney before my pup got diagnosed with diabetes. Sadly, she just past away at the age of 15 this past new years eve. My heart still hurts not seeing her, petting her, kissing her, holding her, & sleeping next to me.💔😞 my house is so quiet, sad, & boring without her! I'm crying just writing this & thinking so much about her!
good to know that i am doing it right this time. my previous three dogs all got cancer but did manage to live to close to 15 years on commercial (top quality) food. The new girl Saffron is getting a raw diet made by me which includes leafy greens blueberries carrots and a host of supplements. I am hoping she lives to at least 20.
I have always feared death greatly and at the moment still do. I just lost my 12 yr old Staffordshire/APBT and the moment the vet gave him his last shot of his life I looked at weigh the straightest face I could manage from the crying and said to her I will gladly go with him if you have an extra one of those. I meant it with all of my heart I’m going downhill at a fast pace with no clue how to recover. I’ve had very old cat of 20yrs and also some dogs one which was 22yr old. My stafford/apbt was my first of those breeds and he had his struggles. Splenectomy around 4 yrs old and some mast cell tumors removed around 6 or 7 so I was lucky I guess to have him as long as did. Being a bachelor that talks to know one regularly except my mother I’m so lost and depressed. Ive never had a dog that stayed inside and was with me as much as sledge was (dog i just lost) rip my friend. Rhodney this isn’t the first video of yours I’ve you’re awesome bro. Keep it up. Best wishes ✌️
Please don't give up. I've lost three dogs at 12-13 years, and my new dog is getting top grade raw food plus a bit of raw kibble. This time, I'm shooting for age 20 for my little guy, a rescue that I got at age one. We sometimes share a steak. Real meat is the key!
Awesome talk! Best of all, it empowers as there are steps we can take to try and improve the longevity of our pets ---it is not entirely out of our hands!
Our baby girl will soon be eleven. At 115#, she's perhaps 5# overweight because we are unable to walk her any longer.. We are old and disabled, and while she used to get @ 1 1/2 hours walk everyday, we can no longer do that. We agonize that we may lose her soon...but your talk gave me hope...the thought that I should try to buy a motorized cart, so 84 year old gramps can continue their much-loved, twice-daily, rain or shine activity. It will benefit them both! Thankyou!
I had to put my fifteen year old pup down yesterday. I haven't cried this hard since my wife passed away. If you have a dog that lasts twenty two years old I consider that more luck and a blessing than anything else.
My cats live into their 20s, 24 being the oldest. A childhood neighbor had at least one cat that lived past 30. My dogs weights 70-130 healthy pounds (I have large breed dogs), live to 13. I've been blessed.
yeah, I don't really care if they flagged this video as "falling outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines". I have full faith in Dr. Becker and Mr. Habib's research and work regarding our pets. My Moto, take what you like and leave the rest. Use your intuition.
Thank you Rodney, for this list. Ive been working on our microbiomes for a while now. Also working on stress - fairly difficult at times. My boys don't get much in the way of carbs, I make their food at home, specifically because one of them is prone to hyperuricosuria - like dalmatians. He grew urate stones during a prostate infection that I didn't catch soon enough and required surgery. Most all of us need more exercise. I use a scale when I feed my dogs and I weigh them periodically to monitor their weight. I don't use chemicals on the grass or plants in my yard - too risky. I'll live with the weeds. Again, thanks so much for this list. I took a screen shot of it to remind me. You rock!
Amazing talk Rodney.... to learn about all this is truly exciting, wonderful and awesome. Huge congrats for this unbelievable journey that you have put yourself up to, and for the inspiration that you give to others guiding us to be part of this noble and important cause.
Nicely done and thank you so much! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to find your video. I just downloaded The Forever Dog and I'm sure I'll be using any advice we can. My wife and I breed Beagles and while our dogs exhibit a normal or better-than-normal life expectancy, who wouldn't want to maximize not only longevity, but the health and quality of life for our pets, as well as the dogs we show and breed. Thanks as well to Dr. Becker and to Dr. Steven Gundry, not only for his work, but for his direction to you and Dr. Becker! Cheers!
Thank you for this info, Rodney! My girl will be 11 this February (2020) and I do worry of losing her. She's a Jack Russell and Shiba Inu mix. I just put her on a raw diet. She was on a raw diet a few years ago, but I put her on kibble when her and I moved off Kauai to the mainland. It was 'convenient' during the move and then I was lazy and didn't go back to raw. It was a high quality kibble, but now I know that it was just kibble and I feel awful for doing this to my little buddy. I've been binge-watching your videos and Dr. Becker's videos and also videos of your associates. I feel like I'm WAY too late to the party, but I'm making some big changes for my girl and hope I can reverse the damage that I've caused her. Thank you, sir!
I love seeing, though painful to experience, brave people here acknowledging we would have liked to have done better; good for us and for others to see too.
Read his book- The Forever Dog. It is excellent. I only feed human (not feed grade) fresh foods (mostly meat) homemade dog food. I follow their guidance and free recipes on the website carefully. Sodium, Calcium and Magnesium are very important considerations if you want it to be balanced.
Love the fact you have a Cairn Terrier on your shirt!! Have had Cairns since the mid-eighties and am PASSIONATE about the breed. Bred and exhibited them for.many years. Thank you so much for this talk!!
My mother had twelve stray cats in the 1990's. Almost every one of them lived past fifteen years, and I remember at least two cats who reached eighteen plus years. My dog lived to be sixteen years. My neighbor's dog became feeble around fifteen and lived another year or two.
Could your next video be a comparison between vaccinated and unvaccinated animals, if you can find any? I am 75 and when I was a child our pets died of old age or being run over, we never knew where the Vet was and vaccination and spot on flea toxins were never heard of. I have a 24 year old very fit Siamese cat but he is only mine because his owner trusted the medical mafia and had a flu jab and died within two weeks. All my Persian cats died thirty years ago of Feline Infectious Peritonitis acquired from vaccinations, my other cats never “caught” it. A horrible unnecessary death. I suggest you do,the research I did, we are being lied to, for example Polio was caused by DDT Pesticide and was not cured by vaccinations, it was cured by banning DDT. All the modern Polio is caused by the vaccinations. Ask Bill Gates and the Indian Government who have to care for half a million paralysed children. Namaste 🙏
Great speech. BTW, about the NOTE FROM TED under the video, FDA does not recommend raw food diet cause its sponsors would make no money that way. Haha.
My cat Tiger was born 2002. He passed 2021 ( 19 years old). In 2006, my dog Lucky came to live with us when he was at least 10 years old. He passed 2018 (22 years old).
A Cattle Dog lived to be 29 once. A Kelpie lived to be 30. Whatever genetic damage we've done to modern dogs through excessive breeding, dingo hybrids seem to be better off. Also, humans and many dogs (labs being a notable exception) can avoid obesity simply by eating decent food and not eating more then we/they want.
@@taylorlove9602 sadly the vaccines are very true. My dog is perfectly healthy but his brother from the same litter has had several surgeries and health issues due to a reaction to his puppy vaccines.
The drop in average lifespan may because of the yearly vaccinations instead of 3 year vaccination cycle that we used to use until vets got greeeeeeedy. I've had two dogs live to 19 and 20, one dog dies at 17, and my schnauzers lived 16 years.
Commercial pet food is PROBABLY the worst cause of pet obesity. Make your own pet food, preferably wet. Basically boil a pot of veges and meats/bones (both scraps) and lentils/ rice and make packets of it. No salt or flavoring, nor strain any liquids out from the mixture. Raw eggs, milk and whole wheat bread slices for breakfast, gives them a shiny coat as well.
pet food makers stopped putting carb info on their products after research showed people were getting wise to its importance & they wanted to hide the fact that their products were predominantly carb-based.
The warning from "Ted" in the description is ridiculous. People with the oldest and healthiest dogs have fed a raw diet and exercised their pets vigorously literally for decades. The information was out there long before Rodney's tireless efforts to enlighten pet parents. I wouldn't even know about Rodney or proper pet care if I hadn't suddenly lost a cherished hunting dog at 8yo. Grow some balls "Ted".
My cat lived to 20 years old. I didn't do as well as I could have if I'd known better I am sure he would still be alive, but 20 years is pretty good compared to the average.
Just today had to put down my 19 year old cat to rest. My handsome boy Loco. I'm literally crushed. I've had him since 14. More than half my life. Cause was cancer. I knew more likely was cause was probably diet especially since it's very reason I eat clean (and my husband and kids) and have been researching all day to start raw diet for my other fur buddies. I have Male Malamute, Female Doberman, Female Aussie/Husky Mix. So any information on correct weight to raw food ratio would be much appreciated. My understanding is I want to feed 80/10/10. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
i try to adjust the amount of raw food to match Saffie's interest. if she skips a meal i give her less next time. i have read in many places including another talk by this same speaker that it is best to limit food almost to partial starvation, that overfeeding as is the American way, is bad for any animal.
My 22 year old cat eats nothing but dry kibble. My dogs all lived to an average of 14 years on a diet of once a day fish and rice. However they always could go to the compost to pick out some mango peals etc.
One friend once told me that his shih tzu lived so long b/c he walked him 5 times a day; not far and not fast and not for exercise but for the ability to eliminate frequently. I also think the owner's attitude of being carefree was important as well as the home cooked meals mixed with the kibble. He gave the dog lots of things that we are told not to, including onions and garlic and nuts. the dog was never sick.
Don't bother to buy their Forever Dog Life book with recipes if you think you are going to get FREE access to more recipes and other stuff. The log in doesn't work and customer service are incompetent. You can't log in with Chrome, Safair or Firefox whether you use a pdf or a jpg. It just doesn't work. Expires on June 8. Been trying for TWO DAYS and upload won't go beyond 70% despite following all directions and trying every link I can find to register. It says it has my email but I can't log in and get submit fail when I try a password reset. There is just no way to redeem this "FREE" offer, but they'll be glad to let you pay $7.99 a month for access.
THEY chose us and had they not it is easily arguable that the Human race in many instances would never have made it. They were our guides, hunters, guardians, and protectors, and what really did we have to offer around that first campfire but our leftovers and yet they saw "something" in us. We should be honored.
So what do you recommend we feed our pets? This must be so important. I have had 3 wonderful German shepherds and the last of my girls died at only 6 from a massive tumour in her spleen. NO sign at all till the morning we took her to the vet because she felt a little warm. Totally devastated when they told us there was no chance. That was 5 months ago and I still cry every day. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT SORT OF FOOD. I NEVER TRUSTED KIBBLE, RESEARCHED AS MYCH AS POSSIBLE BUT WE ALL KNOW THE LIES BIG BUSINESS TELL.
raw and ideally home made so you know exactly what goes in to it. do a lot of research to make sure you are not leaving out anything critical to good nutrition. i keep adding things to Saffie's diet as i find suggestions online and elsewhere. recently added dried beet , toasted chicory and pea flour to the many other ingredients. also added a supplement mix that is expensive but i thought sounded reasonable.
CC subtitles are really really bad. They change some words for others, they give the wrong people's names and have many many mistakes (even spelling mistakes). If this is the job of one of TED Translators (volunteers who subtitle TED Talks), I wish there were people at TED who may check their work before it comes out.
The five points to keep your dog healthy also seem important for us humans to follow. Even the diet one, we should follow close to a natural diet for our species. That would be largely vegetarian with a very small amount of meat.
DOESN'T SURPRISE ME IT IS AN apbt = bulldog as the age champion. their gameness isn't soley in combat as his age shows. their love is really extradentary but can't be intellectualized. it can only be experienced first hand.
I feed my puppy (5 mos old Goldendoodle) raw meat, rotating the protein type, in the full meal format, with organ, bone, veggies and fruit, kelp, your turmeric/coconut oil paste, and homemade Himalayan treats. Occasionally I give him quail eggs, shell included, add cinnamon, ginger and hemp seed oil, sardines in water, uncooked chicken necks, broccoli sticks. The big question: Do I need to give him commercial multivitamins, and/or Omegas?
I would consult with a good vet who understands about raw diets (i.e. doesn't push the commercial type kibble, etc like some vets do) & find out what type of dietary supplements are best to ensure he's getting everything he needs & the right amounts. All the best to you and your pup! 😃🐶
Great Video. I would love for my Ruby to live to be 22 or older. I can not wait till my RUclips channel and Dog Teaching business takes off and I can afford to change Ruby's Diet. I just hope when it is her time to go she goes on her own terms. It really messed me up having to give the order to put my last dog down. Ruby and I really would love your support.
@@kurodesuuuu RUclips is refusing to monetize us even though they are advertising on our channel. And getting someone to help at RUclips takes an act of a god and even then I doubt a god could even get customer service from RUclips.
It makes me sad to see the warning attached to this video. People rely on vets too much out of fear. I don't mean from a treatment standpoint. They are wonderful for that. I mean for this blind belief that they always know what they are talking about. A bit like our doctors, all vets know about chemical treatments is what a pharmaceutical company with a vested interest has told them by showing them research regarding regular medicines, vaccinations, worming, etc. They pass that information on to us with good intentions. But lets be realistic - they have businesses to run, so there is a financial motive for the vets to keep owners feeling like they can make no safe decisions regarding their dog's health without a vet's input. My approach isn't to ignore all advice but to research and make the best decision from all of the info out there. My approach is not to get an annual booster after the initial vaccination and a booster at one year (titer testing can reassure you the dog still has protection from the initial booster - we don't give human babies a booster every year so why would a dog need one?), never feed kibble unless your budget means you absolutely have to and if that is the case, add some meat protein to it, use herbal wormers routinely, and only treat for fleas when you see fleas. There are some herbal flea treatments you can add to food that stop them getting infested but my dog doesn't get on with them. If you live somewhere worms are a particular danger, you need to research that carefully. The herbal wormer I use protects from lungworm but will not treat it, so using a vet prescribed combined flea treatment/wormer once in a while reassures me (but it makes my dog go off his food for weeks so I try to avoid it). Undercooked veg in my dog's wet food turned out to be the cause of his eye staining and itchy skin. I tried every exclusion diet out there for a few years to find out the cause and it was only when I put him on a food with one protein source/carb did I get the hint he couldn't digest the potato in it. He urinated about two to three times as much as usual. So I stopped that and got him some salmon only food, and the excess urination stopped almost instantly. Since that day, I feed him the same brand of dog food but the meat only variety, and add my own well cooked non-starchy veg. I have not had a problem with staining or itching since. Pet food companies put all kinds of weirdness in their food to up the protein content but our dogs do not have the digestions to cope with it. This was a long post. My intention was not to preach - but simply share what I learned because my dog's health and well being means so much that I want to ensure I have passed any vital info on to others. You never know who it might help. Thanks for coming to MY Ted talk, lol.
It has also been found that puppies can receive too much exercise too young and that can cause hip dysplasia. So best not to generalise in these circumstances. Apart from that great presentation.

Hi Jwala!
You brought tears to my eyes when you said “ that pet parent who laid up at night and stares at the ceiling” 🐩 🐕
He got me on that one too.
For real I lay on the ground with my dog or she lay next to me on my bed old chick got jealous my dog is my best friend
Getting a dog has changed my life so drastically, I can't believe how he makes me feel.
I have a 16 year old who is still going strong. ❤️
I wish your dogo a 100 yr life :)
I bet you exercise your dog!
GOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR PET.
Awesome
Is it raw fed or kibble?
I literally teared up at the end 😢 that is me staring at the ceiling. Thank you so much for this!
Me too!😢
I wish i would've found out about rodney before my pup got diagnosed with diabetes. Sadly, she just past away at the age of 15 this past new years eve. My heart still hurts not seeing her, petting her, kissing her, holding her, & sleeping next to me.💔😞 my house is so quiet, sad, & boring without her! I'm crying just writing this & thinking so much about her!
Beautiful! As my dog hás died 10months ago (not by cancetr), and he ate natural food, now is time to study natural food for my cats.
I love his enthusiasm and passion. Love my dogs.❤
good to know that i am doing it right this time. my previous three dogs all got cancer but did manage to live to close to 15 years on commercial (top quality) food. The new girl Saffron is getting a raw diet made by me which includes leafy greens blueberries carrots and a host of supplements. I am hoping she lives to at least 20.
But she died because you gave her no meat
@@br-sb6vu i did not list all the ingredients :)
Thank you for inspiring real pet parents !!!!
Excellence - simply amazing work Rodney - complete gratitude for what you share with us -- no other words I could add that would adequately measure
I changed a dog diet to raw at 10 years with a Doberman and it lived to be 14 years and 2 months! I believe this guy is on to the truth!
You rock!
I am one of those pet mama who wants my fur babies to live a long, healthy life
That dog smelling happiness was just the cutest ❤. Great info, thank you🐾
This would make sense to why my dog barks at my creepy neighbor, he can sense the fear,
Amazing talk Rodney.... to learn about all this is truly exciting, wonderful and awesome. Huge congrats for this unbelievable journey that you have put yourself up to, and for the inspiration that you give to others guiding us to be part of this noble and important cause.
What you say is common sens and applies to us humans as well. Well done!
Love, love, love, thank you for caring & sharing
Nicely done and thank you so much! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to find your video. I just downloaded The Forever Dog and I'm sure I'll be using any advice we can. My wife and I breed Beagles and while our dogs exhibit a normal or better-than-normal life expectancy, who wouldn't want to maximize not only longevity, but the health and quality of life for our pets, as well as the dogs we show and breed. Thanks as well to Dr. Becker and to Dr. Steven Gundry, not only for his work, but for his direction to you and Dr. Becker! Cheers!
Rodney you are amazing! Thanks for sharing with us.
That stress study was so Interesting ! I definitely need to reduce my stress!!
Very helpful. Dogs are the best teachers. The sweat angle was fascinating.
those KC stats really highlight the issue! and the sweat study was fascinating! great talk Rodney!
Read his book- The Forever Dog. It is excellent. I only feed human (not feed grade) fresh foods (mostly meat) homemade dog food. I follow their guidance and free recipes on the website carefully. Sodium, Calcium and Magnesium are very important considerations if you want it to be balanced.
so thankful and greatful ..thank you Rodney
What a beautiful presentation
Thank you so much Rodney
Love the fact you have a Cairn Terrier on your shirt!! Have had Cairns since the mid-eighties and am PASSIONATE about the breed. Bred and exhibited them for.many years. Thank you so much for this talk!!
Great video! Thank you for these information! I love my dog and I am doing my best to give him the life he deserves.
Thank you for the great speech ❣️
I will work on the list immediately 💪
Wow, this list and these tips got me. Thank you.
Excellent Presentation, I learned so much. Thank you!
My mother had twelve stray cats in the 1990's. Almost every one of them lived past fifteen years, and I remember at least two cats who reached eighteen plus years. My dog lived to be sixteen years. My neighbor's dog became feeble around fifteen and lived another year or two.
This must be the best man in the world.
Namaste 🙏
Awesome speaker. Thank you for all that you do.
Great speech. BTW, about the NOTE FROM TED under the video, FDA does not recommend raw food diet cause its sponsors would make no money that way. Haha.
Excellent video and research, im very grateful. Thank you.
It's the processed kibble food and vaccines
@@taylorlove9602 sadly the vaccines are very true. My dog is perfectly healthy but his brother from the same litter has had several surgeries and health issues due to a reaction to his puppy vaccines.
The drop in average lifespan may because of the yearly vaccinations instead of 3 year vaccination cycle that we used to use until vets got greeeeeeedy. I've had two dogs live to 19 and 20, one dog dies at 17, and my schnauzers lived 16 years.
What can be done about it? :/
What a great man!
Great presentation. The issue is implementing enough recommendations to make a difference. :-)
EXCELENTE !!!!! Como sempre, mto claro, objetivo e com mtos dados .. parabéns e obrigado por compartilhar isso conosco!
Thank you ❤🐶🐱
Our cat passed away at the age of 20 - 3 months away from turning 21. She was on a species appropriate raw diet.
From AUSTRALIA - WoW!
Loved it! Great information! I’m so grateful this is available to me. It’s so important! Thank you for your research and for sharing it with us!
pet food makers stopped putting carb info on their products after research showed people were getting wise to its importance & they wanted to hide the fact that their products were predominantly carb-based.
I love how f*a*k*e-b*o*o*k flagged this video for being outside their guidelines.
RIGHT ON.
I just watched his tedx earlier about the dogs diet and cancer relation. My dogs and I just got back from a 3 mile walk.
Great vedio.. thanks a bunch for sharing the information.. loved it.
The oldest dog that ever lived was a vegetarian and the woman that owned the dog had 7 other dogs that all lived to nearly 20 years old
The warning from "Ted" in the description is ridiculous.
♥️♥️♥️
My Sofie, a 6# chi, will be 17 in October.
My cat lived to be 20. My pittie is 11 months right now.
My Carin Terrier is 17 and is she’s great. I just lost my 14.7yr old Bichon which is a great age for her Breed.
Love this!
We got a 8 month old and 3 month old chocolate lab. Going to start fresh veggies daily.
Love it!
There are human beings who fail at his recommendations! God have mercy on their pets!
TED is a gods gift to man, next to yoga pants and beer.
My 22 year old cat eats nothing but dry kibble. My dogs all lived to an average of 14 years on a diet of once a day fish and rice. However they always could go to the compost to pick out some mango peals etc.
My doxie lived 22 years
One friend once told me that his shih tzu lived so long b/c he walked him 5 times a day; not far and not fast and not for exercise but for the ability to eliminate frequently. I also think the owner's attitude of being carefree was important as well as the home cooked meals mixed with the kibble. He gave the dog lots of things that we are told not to, including onions and garlic and nuts. the dog was never sick.
MY OLDEST CAT LIVED TO 18 YRS OLD AND IT WAS A BANFIELD VET THAT KILLED HER DURING THE WALMART/MELAMINE PET FOOD SCANDAL.

I love my dogs. I don't want to outlive my dogs. The reality is we are all going to die. Life does not end when we leave our bodies.
Wait the Odyssey is 8000 years old?
I could see Karen Becker in the audience.
THEY chose us and had they not it is easily arguable that the Human race in many instances would never have made it. They were our guides, hunters, guardians, and protectors, and what really did we have to offer around that first campfire but our leftovers and yet they saw "something" in us. We should be honored.
This speaker should get hired by some organic dog food company... sales would sky rocket and that would create loyal very happy customers 🥳❤
Raw meat and bones
CC subtitles are really really bad. They change some words for others, they give the wrong people's names and have many many mistakes (even spelling mistakes). If this is the job of one of TED Translators (volunteers who subtitle TED Talks), I wish there were people at TED who may check their work before it comes out.
Why the name Shubie? I live just a few miles from Shubenacadie.
The five points to keep your dog healthy also seem important for us humans to follow. Even the diet one, we should follow close to a natural diet for our species. That would be largely vegetarian with a very small amount of meat.
Would it really? I've read we ate meat more than veggies, before agriculture
DOESN'T SURPRISE ME IT IS AN apbt = bulldog as the age champion. their gameness isn't soley in combat as his age shows. their love is really extradentary but can't be intellectualized. it can only be experienced first hand.
Any recommendations for dog food brands? I have a 10 pound, 6 year old chihuahua rescue.
Caru, Feline & K9 Natural, Grandma Lucy's, Instinct, Lotus, North West Natural, Primal, Raw Bistro, Small Batch, Stella & Chewy's, The Honest Kitchen, Tiki, Vital Essentials, Weruva & Ziwi Peak.
No dog food ! Raw meat and bones
yea we lived longer too a long time ago
Can we give my puppy soil based probiotic used by humans
It's best if you just give them "goat milk" or "kefir" (non-sweetened).
Fish oil omega 3 supplement is the only one I would consider
I would consult with a good vet who understands about raw diets (i.e. doesn't push the commercial type kibble, etc like some vets do) & find out what type of dietary supplements are best to ensure he's getting everything he needs & the right amounts. All the best to you and your pup! 😃🐶
would be nice with more information about the studies he talks about
he has a little cairn terrier on his shirt :)
How's things going now?

But what's the way out?
Thank you for saying as much as you did…we all learn from each other
It has also been found that puppies can receive too much exercise too young and that can cause hip dysplasia. So best not to generalise in these circumstances. Apart from that great presentation.
