      Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video and I agree with you gaining a signature look is a great way forward and using interchangeable items gives greater flexibility 👍🙂

    Nice video. I have always learned by seeing pictures of well dressed men and women in magazines, movies and books, especially from the 30's and 40's.

      Hi William, glad you enjoyed the video and I agree with you inspiration is all around us and I particularly find inspiration myself for the 30s and 40s from movies from those periods👍🙂

    Lots of great looks replicated here, Chris, and quite a few changes of outfit! I have captured quite a few styling ideas from the movies and given them my own interpretation. We all have to start somewhere and using other people's that work for them is as good a place as any.👍

      Hi John, glad you enjoyed the video, there was a lot of changes, but it was worth it I think to show case a range of different looks. Inspiration comes in many ways and I thought this might be relatable for someone starting out👍🙂

    Wow Chris, that was a mini marathon of style. That final Prince of Wales check is a real winner in my books. The wine overcheck with the burgundy square is similar to what I bought about twenty years ago. It has one and a half inch trouser turn-ups and still looks great today.
    I must admit I am a great fan of trouser turn-ups but find that look hard to find as they have gone out of fashion.

      Hi Billy, glad you enjoyed the video👍 I am a lover of Prince of Wales check suits and this particular one I love wearing, with the berry over check adding that elevated look. It sounds like you've got a great suit there as well. Turn ups (cuffs) are not as common nowadays, but you could buy the trousers with a longer inside leg (the longer the better), to provide more material to allow a tailor to adjust the bottoms to create that cuff or go for a unfinished trouser leg, but better still would be to buy made to measure, but for the best results (if you can) go bespoke (it costs a lot of money - but it is a worthwhile investment in the long run). 👍🙂

    Wonderful video Chris. A movie journey through men's style. I used other people as inspiration all the time. I do it less nowadays, since I am more experienced with men's style and have found my own style. David, Niven, Cary Grant and Paul Newman were my guys. I still look at their style from time to time.
    In 2009, George Clooney appeared in the movie "Up in the Air". He wore a blue tie with white stripes. I fell in love with that tie and wanted one too. I started scouting in different stores and found one. I still have it and it is one of my "go to" ties when I am not feeling wearing any of my other ties. I call it "the Clooney". I think I have never given a tie a name.

    Great video Chris. I really like your first one with the pink shirt and blue blazer. I also like the green Harrington jacket look. Love the suit combinations I just wish I had more opportunities to wear one. I too draw inspiration from David Niven Sean Connery and Steve McQueen. I tend to wear sports jackets more than anything else. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and have a great day. Best regards Ron

      Hi Ron, glad you enjoyed the video. It’s great to hear you love the suit combinations. David Niven, Sean Connery, and Steve McQueen are indeed timeless style icons, and their influence is undeniable. I understand what you mean about opportunities to wear suits - they can be few and far between. joining clubs, associations or attending charity fund raisers can be a good way of generating further opportunities. Sports jackets are a fantastic choice, though, as they offer versatility and a touch of sophistication without being overly formal. Do you have a favourite style or fabric for your sports jackets? 👍🙂

    Dress like a star? Nah, I bought a Barbour jacket so i can dress like a king. lol Just kidding, very well done video. Using movie looks are great for those who are starting out and may not have the confidence in putting together outfits. They can at least step out on the town wearing an outfit they accept as stylish on a movie star.

    it must not even be old movies just take the kingsman for example or john wick the murder on the orient express movie with kenneth brnagh is probaly the greatest example you will hardly find any person there who isnt impecably t´well dressed On a side note may i ask where you have gotten this wonderfull tie it very much resembles the oen in the kingsmann movies and i have long been searching for something like this also i would recommend you not to wear those super small lapels in my opinion a peak lapel just looks much more classy though i think while oen can still do it with the dingle breastet ones with a double breastetd ones its a big no go

    • @TheBritishDapper
      @TheBritishDapper  6 дней назад +1

      Hi there, I agree with you. They don't always have to be old movies and inspiration comes in many forms. The Kingsman is a good example of demonstrating a traditional look and showcases British tailoring.
      The ties I tend to own are old ties, I've owned since the 80s and 90s, although I do have a few modern ties. When it comes to buying ties, I tend to find quality lasts. That particular tie you mention is from Charles Tyrwhitt and I think I bought it in the late 90’s - hope that helps. Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂👍
